Not really. Their filibuster would last all of ten seconds since the Dems have 60 votes now. Him promising not to filibuster is like a eunuch promising his girlfriend not to cheat on her. He's trying to get credit for not doing something he has no opportunity to do- but would if he still had the capability.
Its not honorable to thoroughly test someone out before they go to they highest court?
The purpose is to probe for weaknesses and see if they stand the test. Apparently, she did.
No dishonor in that.
Appointees are supposed to be tested; that's why conservatives hated what the demonrants did to Bush's nominees; they wouldn't even test them but refused them before even speaking to them - bunch of punks that they are.
As I recall the Democrats rolled over and gave Roberts & Alito a lifetime appointment while barely making a whimper. So they filibustered a few lower court judges, BIG DEAL, A lower court judge and a five dollar bill will buy you a cup of coffee.
Then you have both a short and bad memory. Alito and Roberts were both grilled but that was nothing compared to what Thomas and Bork went through.
Bork was called a racist by a Senator because he dared actually believe that everyone was equal before the law and was driven to withdraw his own nomination.
Kids would be saying forced prayers in school and women would have lost their right to choose if Bork was on the court. It was a miracle that he was stopped!
No, kids would be FREE to practice their religions wherever they were and states would have the authority to address issues that are THEIR constitutional responsiblity to do so.
They are already free to practice their religion, but if Bork was on the court, FORCED prayer would be the law of the land in places like Alabama and women would have lost their right to choose.
REALLY, is that kids have their Bibles, that they read to themselves, taken away?
Is that why kids are put in detention for praying before eating or before a test?
As for abortion, why should we protect the murder of thousands of innocents every year? Sex without consequences is not a good enough reason for any caring person.
The Supreme Court has ruled that children have the right to privately practice their religion in school, if there has been any incident where somebody has been put in detention for doing so, it was because the school administration was not properly informed of their students' civil liberties and the student should contact the ACLU which will defend them.
As for abortion, I'll agree to ban it after every orphan in the world has been adopted.
Everyone here seems to be hip to GOP race politics.
It's no secret that the Republican Party represents the aspirations of many for the continuation of white supremacy in America.
If Republicans themselves don't have the courage of their convictions to openly make that a national party platform, then it is up to those of us who oppose that agenda to EXPOSE THEM.
Sen. Jeff Sessions smeared the NAACP, then claimed it was a "jest" when it cost him his Federal Judge confirmation. Coward.
We won't filibuster because we don't want to suffer the humiliation of having Jon Stewart run all those 2005 clips of us condemning the Democrats for threatening to filibustering Bush's judicial nominees.
(We also don't want to remind them that we threatened them with the "nuclear Senate option" if they did filibuster. They might get ideas.)
Correction: They don't want to lose any MORE Hispanic votes.
It's been said that if you find yourself in a hole, stop digging. The GOP apparently got that memo a little too late. They have dug themselves so deep in Washington that they're now, through to the other side of the earth, about twenty miles off the coast of Perth (Australia).

If Bork had gotten on the court America would look like Iran right now. Thank GOD Bork got Borked!

You're high; racial equality would be stronger and liberty would be more widely enjoyed.
Bork was 5 times the jurist that Sotomayor could ever be, he just dared be bold in his beliefs.

the filibuster issue is moot and for Sessions to bring it up here just shows the kind of self-righteous racist idiot he is.
