The acting is good enough, but they could have at least tried harder to make the main character look more Asian... I mean, he just looks like a white guy with eye problems...
i hope people who are watching this know that the main character who is so call playing the role of an Asian man is a white man with tape on his eyes. lol
Its truly amazing that this film was made during a time of Yellow Peril sentiment, and also by the same director who made Birth of a Nation. Although a caucasian actor play the role of the "yellow man" (actually his name is Cheng Huan, wonder why they dont give him a name, does it make him too human and not exotic?)
Yes, humans should only mate with other members of the human race. I'm all for that. "Broken Blossoms" may have some out of date, era-specific elements, but if anything, it reminds us that power isn't only allowed to those of high character; physical appearance and heritage shouldn't prompt automatic distrust-- sometimes those you've been conditioned to trust most are also the most dangerous.

griffith had epic ideas but unfortunately he was a product of his time rather than any form of art. ordinary in tale. so sad no aesop stupid fucking ignorant fucking cracker making high budget cracker films. fucking waste of those who worked so hard in the technical dept. stupid fucking sheep, fuck you.
well well who wrote all that? residuals from "The Clansman" i guess, what can i say? lots of partying and D W gets reemed. no regrets language a bit.
Good part: this film and other classics from that period still exists. Sad part: nobody will ever make films of such class as these. I feel very fortunate to have seen it.

This movie is scary because of its realistic drama. I cringed through the film a few times and felt bad for the young woman who had nothing.

i think Griffith was trying to distance himself from racism of Birth of a Nation when making this movie

i disagree because the essential message of this film is for the races to stay with their own, and to not intermingle.
