oh btw you can do this with regular pistons

move the pistons forward/so the piston(extended) blockes the water.

use signs instead of fence (or the fences close)

and ajust the redstone wiring that connects to the piston

to make a regular piston version

I made myself 2 chicken coops, the EXACT way that you did. Followed every step, but the chickens do not seem to be laying any eggs... Am I missing something or did they fix something up...?

@IHittusl No its fine, you just need to be patient, chickens lay eggs every 5-10min :)

Thanks a ton for this build! I had to modify it a bit; raised the dispenser by one and pulled it out a block(the chickens were hatching outside every time) replaced most of the gates with signs, and lengthened it, but I now have two of them set up in my world, and am glad I no longer have to worry about counting how many chickens I'm killing or having a ton circle me while I try to give them wheat.

Chickens keep glitching through the dispenser and get out, any fix for that? i tried moving the dispenser 1 block up and place a solid at the other side of the water stream

@WhoMeTV Its called netherack and it comes from the nether dimension, if you haven't heard of this yet your in for a treat :) You can make a portal to another dimension full of new mobs and materials :)

weird, i had lots of chicken in the farm (and they were all grown), but when i cooked them, i only got 3 cooked chickens - apparently all the other loot got burned :( this happened twice now. does anybody else have this problem?

@xisumavoid yea, actually that's how i built it the first time around. i've moved the trap doors UP one block now, to see if it would work better if i built it exactly like you did. i haven't gotten round to testing it yet :)

@Mozzzoo Well i tested it a ton and i didn't get drop counts that low, My guess now is that perhaps chicken behavior/path finding has something to do north/south and all that, and the axis i built mine on is effecting the drops.

I am on a server that does not allow the water to be placed from a bucket for anti-grieifing reasons. I used ice to place the top water source above the fence gates. It does not go all the way across. Do i have to use a water bucket?

I like the chicken farm, a lot smaller and resource friendly than my beast of a thing (it does around 30 chickens at a time overkill I know), I realy like the trapdoor for the drops, do the drops ever get stuck on the trapdoors?

My only qualm about this is that the meat drops on the opposite side of where you're standing. not too hard of a fix. Other than that, very clever concept.

@itsnotjustme I agree its a little annoying but if u want it the side you are on the it makes the size and bulk of the machine a lot bigger. Its a balancing act, when you build your own you could put it where u want :)

Great Tutorial as always. This design is a lot more compact and simple than the one you originally built in you LP. I've been planning on building something like this in my world. I wanted to have areas to hatch chickens, cook chickens, and spawn new eggs all combined into one. This has given me some ideas how to simplify it. Thanks.
