It's give new cyclists and the returning cyclists a good reference knowledage to start cycling's training with. I would say it's a good guide line to follow. Cheers.
How do you bike on a high way like that without getting the heavy fine? Up here in Alberta this is strictly illegal cycle on a open highway without the $500 fine. Besides it's suicide. A large truck moving at 120km (80mph) is not going to change lanes just to get around a cyclist even if he wants to avoid him. His inertia will probably cause him to loose control or force him to use his jake brake which is really quite loud and scary. I love to bike but this is just reckless.
If people cant survive a long ride then dont bike, unless your really old you should have no problem going more then 50 or 60 miles, i used to bike over 40 miles daily when i was 15 with a piece of crap bike, road bikes are comfortable as hell specially all those gears you have
Base miles; long rides. This man is one of the best on expervillage without a doubt. My first long and continuous ride was 30 miles and took me under 1.45 hours. I ended up adjusting my stem, seat and cleaning up my bottom bracket. My 10km wind-"sprints" average went from 25-27 - 30-35km/h after just one long ride and a few days of rest.
I ride my power x red mountain bike for 1 hour a day in my neighborhood. Does anyone really know if a workout like that could lower my high blood pressure and cholesterol?
Doesn't really matter what sort of bike (apart from an electric one) but a cheap heart rate monitor is a good idea to check that you are in the right training zone, as for how much; as far as I remember weight loss does not matter how frequent, toning & fitness do though.
At the risk over oversimplifying all of this I would say 45min per day 5-6 times a day is sufficient for most people to loose weight.Any type of bike is good so long as its a safe bike and one of good quality.
yeah base miles are important; as you progress you can start doing your basemiles in miles and how fast you can do it.
For example today i went 60 miles in the mountains in just over 3 hrs with a empty stomach. Tommorow ill try to go 80 miles in under 4hrs on a full stomach; Its a much more competitive approach
Was this filmed in a closet?

yes if you do this every day, but diet is important. Less fatty food will help, as 60 mins a day is going to burn existing lard

@PlanetXObserver
nooo, its definately the wrong bike to lower your high blood pressure. you need a roadbike....mountainbike is totally wrong for this.
