Whoever had a volvo knows that's one of the most stylist, safe and reliable cars out there..When my father bought the volvo 244GL back in '76,the kms counter reset at 1000000 km instead of 100000 as in mercedes 280 for example..The reason was simple..The car kept driving perfectly for 27 years after hundreds of thousands kms..The rest you can go with the masses and just recycle the same words "BMW !!MERCEDES !!AUDI !!!".Thats why volvos is for guys with personality that dont need to prove shit.

@WRCetappen different class car- 2011 Volvo S80 T6 will eat the 2011 Saab 9-5 for lunch with its more powerful engine. We have no idea whether the new 9-5 will be reliable either- the current gen Volvo S80s have been reliable.
@WRCetappen as I said different class car, I would EXPECT it to have a nicer interior - I don't know if I would consider it nicer than the current S80 interior which is ART in my opinion. The SAAB 9-5 dash looks more complex than the S80 so I will wait to see it in person before casting judgment.

wow what a beautiful car, not as revolutionary as the old model was, but really nice none the less. Now volvo just needs to cut their production life cycle by about 4 years. 10 years for a new model is crazy.
Its a volvo so great safety/qaulity but not exactly the most beautiful/sporty car and in Canada/US volvos are pretty expensive to repair and do cost quite a bit.
I know people say its reliable but remember in Canada we practically have snow 4 months a year, low temps, high salt that gets into the car to rust it in the winter, many tire changes between seasons, cold starts, worse quality fuel than Europe etc.
Personally I think its a nice car but a bit on the pricey for where it stands.
@norwegianelk fair point...why do they charge you more than us for a swedish cars? Are you allowed to buy them in sweden and drive them across? I am not sure if the Kuga is even available in Canada though..I think we pretty much get whatever the US gets because of our small population compared to them (not as small as your population :P but you guys win more medals at the olympics so.....)

The Volvo was 2nd because it wasn't as engagine to drive. And it had all the other bases covered. It even had that as a conclusion!!

A review on the S60 even says what I said, not as engagine to drive as a 3 series but the C-Class and A4 are closer competition. Can you get a fridge, heated/cooled/massaging seats in a BMW, Audi, Merc? Yes, and so can the Volvo. Seriously, the Volvo's interior is quite beautifly made with good materials.

This is a Volvo, comfortable, heavy, and SAFE like always only that now theyve added STYLISH and QUICK ENOUGH TO SATISFY THE AVERAGE CUSTOMER, that are aged 28-38 years old, so in effect they ARE in this category performance, price, size and style wise. If you want a fast car, take out the 5 heavy metals that make it safe and replace the bushings and springs that make it comfortable, THEN you will have a fast car. Also a BMW 3 series =]

The new T5 engines coming out in 2012 will all be 250 Hp anyways! Volvos have a destinctive touch, and anyone who can see past the fact that "older people" (ei people who have experience and enough money to enter this segment of premium vehicles and do so knowing the high quality this brand delivers) drive them, will be very pleased to actually sit in one.

2. GM owns Saab. so GM went bankrupt and so did Saab. So basically the US government bailed out Saab as well, GM as a whole. But its up to GM if they want to keep Saab or not or if they will just let it die.
The Swedish government is proud of being a socialist one, and they should be. They don't rescue SAAB because they don't see automakers as priorities over there.

Its a volvo so great safety/qaulity but not exactly the most beautiful/sporty car and in Canada/US volvos are pretty expensive to repair and do cost quite a bit.
I know people say its reliable but remember in Canada we practically have snow 4 months a year, low temps, high salt that gets into the car to rust it in the winter, many tire changes between seasons, cold starts, worse quality fuel than Europe etc.
Personally I think its a nice car but a bit on the pricey for where it stands.

..seems equal to the winter climate in Sweden then. Lot's of salt on the roads, studded tires, cold and lots of snow (this year atleast :P)

Expencive?
here in norway i paid 75000USD for a Ford Kuga Titanium with some trimming, thats high.
This car is more like 117,000USD here in norway (the new Volvo), atleast.
Everywhere is cheap compared to norway :)

@norwegianelk fair point...why do they charge you more than us for a swedish cars? Are you allowed to buy them in sweden and drive them across? I am not sure if the Kuga is even available in Canada though..I think we pretty much get whatever the US gets because of our small population compared to them (not as small as your population :P but you guys win more medals at the olympics so.....)

BMW is premier league, this on the other hand is more like the coca cola championship.. the S60 T6 has got good performance stats but will never be able to out perform an M3 or an AMG merc.. its the way the world goes around man... volvo is just Swedish.. the swedes make better clothes than germans perhaps but not cars.. but you're still entitled to your opinion. you've a volvo man, I'm more bmw..

@007badboy88 i appreciate what your saying dude ive been a volvo fan for some time now its not about speed dude i was a volvo and jaguar mechanic and now im professional driver i drive every car you can think of all the time thats why i can give my opinion german engineering is great and just like volvo they had to move up the ranks and volvo has been messed around over the years 1 more thing dont always believe what journalists say there not alway correct mate :)

@puremetaldude2000 oh wow dude.. you gonna send me your CV next?? loool I understand where you're coming from but at the end of the day it comes down to personal taste, and it is rather sad that we live in a world where people believe what the media says.. personally I've driven BMW's, not an M3 but a 3 series and I've driven a volvo as well, never owned one but got it as a courtesy car once, and it was a brand new car but just didn't live up to BMW standards, in terms of comfort etc.

@007badboy88 Oh we know that this can't take on a 3 series in terms how fun it is to drive, but the S60 is in the league for the A4 and C-class. And mabey there will be an R version, who knows?

Its an insult to say that a volvo is in the same class as A4 and C class, I'm not a big fan of Audi's but they're still in a league of their own, up there with Merc's and BMW's.. Volvo is slowly climbing up the league tables but for me its no better than an Opel. But yeah may be an ''R'' version will impress but I doubt they will make a 0-60 in 4.5 seconds car any time soon..

@007badboy88 An insult?! How? Have you ever been in a Volvo? The materials and quality is just as good as an Audi (although Audi's electronics will fail) and nicer than the Mercedes'. Don't you know that the MB GLK was put last place on 2 comparisons including the XC60, RX350, and Q5? The Q5 won because of it's excelent interior, practicality ect. The Volvo was 2nd because it wasn't as engagine to drive. And it had all the other bases covered. It even had that as a conclusion!!

@007badboy88 I mean regular A4s not like the S4 ect. In terms of luxury Volvo IS in the same league, that's why they've been in the same comparisons as Mercedes and Audis. A review on the S60 even says what I said, not as engagine to drive as a 3 series but the C-Class and A4 are closer competition. Can you get a fridge, heated/cooled/massaging seats in a BMW, Audi, Merc? Yes, and so can the Volvo. Seriously, the Volvo's interior is quite beautifly made with good materials.

@007badboy88 No review, comparison, or article EVER suggested that Volvo was in the same league as Ople/Chevrolet. NONE of their cars have ever been in the same coparisons/road tests. Go get in a Volvo and tell me it's not a premium car.

They dont have to make 0-60 in 4.5 buddy. This is a Volvo, comfortable, heavy, and SAFE like always only that now theyve added STYLISH and QUICK ENOUGH TO SATISFY THE AVERAGE CUSTOMER, that are aged 28-38 years old, so in effect they ARE in this category performance, price, size and style wise. If you want a fast car, take out the 5 heavy metals that make it safe and replace the bushings and springs that make it comfortable, THEN you will have a fast car. Also a BMW 3 series =]

The point is how safe is this car when achieving high speeds and accelerations.. Car safety is the most expensive and demanding research in the car industry, thats why most car manufacturers 'avoid' it..And volvo stands there on the top !! Volvo, my car of choice till the end of time !

@malakas1973 EXACTLY, therefore as long as Volvo continues to be a market leader in safety it will continue to improve in all other areas. The new T5 engines coming out in 2012 will all be 250 Hp anyways! Volvos have a destinctive touch, and anyone who can see past the fact that "older people" (ei people who have experience and enough money to enter this segment of premium vehicles and do so knowing the high quality this brand delivers) drive them, will be very pleased to actually sit in one.

That's an astounding fallacy. Saab haven't been a profitable company in over two decades. They would have went under if GM didn't buy them back in the 90's, this is not some shocking event in world affairs, it has been expected for a very long time.
If you can't make good cars for a competitive price that's it. Look what a success buying SAS was for the government of sweden.

1. Ford owns Volvo, Ford is doing good right now and can afford to keep Volvo going.
2. GM owns Saab. so GM went bankrupt and so did Saab. So basically the US government bailed out Saab as well, GM as a whole. But its up to GM if they want to keep Saab or not or if they will just let it die.
