this is a very old song. you can hear it in his performance and in the lyrics. he did not know the lyrics that well. probably heard it on the old record or from another person somewhere. turns out it was recorded by a song collector from a jewish prisoner in 1930 in Odessa jail. beautiful song about a woman who fell in love with a rich count and is now living on the streets. I wish I knew more about its history.
