  • Hi

I loved your Video,You Make it so easy,I tried to make a fruit cake few days before but it turned too dry actually i dint pour rum or wisky since i dont have one can i use any fruit juice instead and can u also please give me the measurement of this recipe for one cake

  • @asavitharao Thank You .4c.soft butter,2/3 C molasses,14 eggs,8 c flour,4 teaspoons of mace and cinnamon and baking powde each ,1/2 teaspooin salt,2 teaspoon nutmeg, and ground cloves and allspice each. My old stove took longer to bake but with new stove it cut the time down. Don't forget to soak your fruits in a nice sweet wine or rum. The rum or what you put on after baking makes the cakes last longer and taste good. I hope I helpped.

  • @asavitharao I hjave been cooking and baking for so many years for my family which were eleven children and husband. . I try to make things simple because that is how I like to cook making good things fast.

  • its awsome, and background audio is great. I feel , I am missing something in my life, and I feel void. tnx mama

  • no way can i do this in singapore for $10...:(

  • @sumertheory Prices have gone up here some also but still cheaper to make than buy and they taste better. Unless you know someone that makes them. Prices on foods have gone up also.

  • I made 10 bread size pan full and put blackberry wine on fruit than after baking pour RUM over all ten of them and used 3/4 bottle. My sons said that was the best. As gifts and eatting they are all gone. (^:"

This is a good receipe. With my new stove I cut some time off the baking. Just keep a eye on them and you can't go wrong.

  • Awesome and very economical to make a big batch I assume? Can this recipe be devided up just to make 2-3 cakes? Lol

  • Made 10 freuit cakes this year and used blackberry wine to soak the fruit. After baking poured rum over and really gave the fruit cakes a soaking.

They went out as gifts, They were so good.

  • Got the fruit (big fresh stuff) and will make the cakes this week,I hope.

Doestn't seem like Holiday time without fruit cake and cookies.

  • Time to start to buy your dried fruits to make the cakes. Make sure you are getting fresh dried and not last years. It does make a big difference for a great fruit cake.

Make them by end of October so they age.

  • I wanted to mention if you make fruit cake do not get dried fruit cake mix that was on the shelve all year. Not good. A good store after the holidays will cut price to sell and not keep it there until next years holiday. Taste the nuts also before using that they are fresh.

  • Hello again,

I see food stores still have fruit for fruit cake still on the shelf. I suggest when buying dried fruit for your cakes make sure it is fresh and not sitting there from year before and you paying same price.

Don't buy cheap old fruit when fresh dried makes the best. Leave them asking for more

  • DameEleanor ,We made more than enough this year so we still have one left to enjoy anytime. I wish all food store would carry the larger fruit for cakes.

    Thank you for your comment.

  • HAPPY NEW YEAR ALL! 2011

  • Have a very Merry Blessed Christmas to all and Happy Holidays and a peaceful Good New Year.

  • Hello all, By now I hope someone try to make this fruit cake and had great results.

I would love to hear how they turned out for you.

  • @tigerscome678

Surely wish I had access to a Mennonite store to buy the fruit! The fruit you have looks fresh, and very tasty!

This looks so much like my dear Grandmother's recipe! I can't wait to try it!! Even if it is a little late this year...we can have them for birthday cakes! Thank you for sharing this. The look just scrumptious! Merry Christmas to you, and yours from Washington state!

  • HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL

    HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

  • Mom made two batches(16 cakes) and boy do they taste GREAT!. Gave couple for gifts . Cakes only go to people who enjoy fruit cake . Waste not!

I let few friends taste it that only had bad fruit cakes before and they love moms fruit cake .

  • Fruits and raisins now sitting with some rum poured over and covered waiting to be put into cake. Pecans pieces will be added later. This time when cakes are done I will top them with Black Berry Brandy. They will be wrapped and sit for few days then open and little more brandy over them then wrapped in plastic wrap twice and put into zip lock bags. You can eat these when done but if you wait the flavor gets better with everyday.

  • I notice in one store they had nice size fruit cake fruit cherry/pineapple pieces called",(cherry pineapple mix" )by Paradise. net wt container 16 oz. (1 LB.)

These are nice size pieces like the ones I buy from Amish store. These pieces are fresh and soft not like the tiny hard pieces and this makes for a better cake.

  • Hi again,

First batch came out perfect . Got more fruit and will make another batch. Never have to much fruitcake. Good special gift to person that loves fruitcake.

    The mom

  • Hello again,

Just started my fruitcakes and wanted to let you know with one less bread loaf pan of fruitcake in and different oven 4 cakes only took 2 hours and not 2 1/2. That is why its a good idea to cxheck them after a hour and half at 275 temperature. First fruitcakes are done and look and smell great.

  • Bought enough fresh candied fruit and walnuts for 10 nice size bread pans of fruitcake and that cost was fifty nine dollars. Had the raisins. already You could get more cakes made by putting in less fruit but we love the big amount of fruit in our cakes. Fruit did go up some in price this year.

  • Kathlens fruitcake receipe she has made for many years

  • Receipe can be cut in half

    Things needed

    4 cups soft butter,

    2/3 cup molasses,

    4 cups brown sugar,

    14 eggs,

    8 cups flour( I don't sift it)

I use ROBIN HOOD all purpose flour

  • 1 or 2 Tablespoon of orange juice,

    4 Teaspoon mace ,

    4 Teaspoons cinnamon,

    4 Teaspoons baking powder,

    few grains of salt(1/2 Teaspoon),

    2 Teaspoons nutmeg,

    2 Teaspoon ground gloves,

    2 Teaspoons allspice.

    __________________________________

  • Booze your choice(Rum,whiskey,Blackberry brandy,bourbon)Try different kinds.

I like Rum then Brandy when done.

    NUTS,RAISINS FRUIT(cannied citron,pineapple,cherries)

You can add orange peel,or little lemon peel or dried currants. Some add dates but I don't care for that.

    I love the cannied cherries.

  • Get your pans ready buy veg. oil rubbed around.

(I don't like the sprays) then cut brown paper to line the pans. I have been using brown paper bags from the store for years. Real thin brown paper is not the same. I like to get everything on the table and double check that I have it . MAKES 9 in my size pans.Depends on size of pans.

    ___________________________________________

  • Mix eggs and brown sugar, molasses and butter.

Add spices and baking powder and flour little at a time. also the orange juice. Add the fruits and nuts.

Now fill pans that are grease and lined with brown paper half full or little more. Now deorate cakes as much as you want.Put in warm oven that is set at 275 degrees.

  • Don't lean pans on wall of oven. put pan of water on bottom shelve. Keep that always with water .

Ovens are different so keep eye on the cakes After

a hour or so if they look done check with long tooth pick. UIf it comes out clean and no dough on it the cakes are done. Takes 2 to 2 1/2 Hours in my oven

  • Remember when putting pans into oven 5 or 6 pans can fit in oven . Smaller pans fit more. Just don't lean the pans on wall of the oven. Might cause burning on one side.

Don't forget to grease pan and use brown paper before putting dough in pan.

I have made fruit cakes for 50 years. Never a complain except they wanted more .

  • I always have about 18 cups of fruit ready to put into fruit cakes. That is also rasins and nuts added to mixed fruits sold for fruit cakes.. I like my cakes filled with fruit. Some people put very little fruit in . That is not my thing. I love lot of the candied cheeries. I try using not butter but other stuff and its not that good. I always have salted butter on hand .

  • You have to be careful buying chopped up little fruits. Make sure the store didn't have that from year before. Yes it can be used but don't buy it at high cost. Newer stuff is better. Taste the walnuts or any other nuts you use you use to make sure they are fresh .You don't want terrible flavored cakes. Remember don't wrap cakes in wax paper ,air gets in. Use a type of saran wrap. then foil.

  • Check this out on youtube and you will see what we have been doing. This is my other sons site. Just type this in. Brick chimney with clay liner installation procedure with scissor jack lift

  • I had three pages of good comments here but made mistake and it got canceled and there went receipes in words . so you have to watch video to get receipe. Sorry.

Sheila ,Thank you again for your nice comments.

  • As for water in pan get big cookie sheet and fill it with water when checking cakes if it is running low add more warm water. Leave on bottom shelf

  • Hi Sheila,I get my wonderful fresh fruits in containers from a menonite store. They have a mixed version, just canied pineapple, cannied cherries and more. So good to eat right out of container.

  • Hi Kathy, Can you tell me which fruit you used in your cakes and how much of each, and how much water you put in the pan on the bottom shelf?

After I wrap them, can they go into my cake tins to store, or do they need refrigeration? What liquor do you use AFTER they are cooked? They same mixture as on the video, or just one type? I'm so excited to be able to bake early thing year. Thanks so much for this great recipe.

  • I thought I had saved the recipe for this, and I had NOT!!! AAAHHHH!

I'm so glad I noticed it while checking out the moped video!

I'm getting ready early this year, and plan to make a lot of this fruitcake this year. My family loves fruitcake, and they will make great Gifts. I have a big family, so I will need enough for at least 15 cakes!!! You make it so easy, and use the large amounts like I do too. I'm going to line my pans this year too. Thank you for your wonderful recipe. Bless
