  • Such a shame that it's vulnerable/nearly endangered. :/

  • Am I the only one who though that the start sounded a little bit from that song in Titanic

  • @GotMadSkilllz Celine Dion's voice does often remind me of a howling animal.

  • The big bad wolf

  • OMG, They actually keep Singers in ZOOS???

  • <.< I prefer the Wolf's howl to this... but it's still amazing. ^_^

  • I wanted one for a pet until I saw this.

  • Omg, it sounds exactly like my friend xD LÅÅÅÅÅÅL

  • Immigrant Song intro! she's beautiful.

  • Immigrant Song intro!

  • somehow, this singing dog sounds better than any songs from justin bieber

  • That made my spine tingle

  • me too dude, me too

  • For some reason I always thought the New Guinea Singing Dog was a domestic breed. I didn't expect to see them in zoos. I've only seem them as pets/companions in a family setting, indoors.

  • @Cyove They are somewhat domestic, but are also a bit wild and can be kept in homes or zoos. They are in fact still living in the wild.

  • @Stormbreez98 They are extinct in the wild.

  • @explodingcranium2442 uhh,no they aren't.if you actually watched Dogs 101:Rare Breeds on Animal Planet you would know that they have a much higher numbers in the wild than in captivity

  • @TheOriginalDrakon You do know that Dogs 101 is pretty much inaccurate with almost any defining characteristic of a breed, right?

  • @chelbell91 oh ok,seeing how you're the ripe old age of 20 you've been all over the world & seen all there is to see & know all there is to know about each & every dog breed & all things to do with dogs.gimme a damn break.until you have proof of what you're saying just stfu

  • @TheOriginalDrakon Whoa now, I never said anything about that, but I'm not the one believing everything I see on the Discovery Channel. Don't be such a sour puss.

  • she seems sad...

  • maybe it''s lonely,. it's howling and then looking around as if looking for something or someone. Dogs/wolves howl for communication purposes. Dogs/wolves in the wild will howl together so that they know where each other is. If a human or a family is singing, the dog will howl as part of that pack howling behavior.

  • @shadowseraph78

Actually the NGSD is a loner kind of dog. In the wild (there aren't many left in the wild but still) They were only ever found in singles or mate-pairs. When in captivity they do not seem to form "packs" at all and instead wander off alone or if they have one, with their mates.

  • This dog is better than any pop singer today.

  • @operazanotaijin

    What about CHRISTINA?!?!

  • Oh, I getz it... AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • give him a record label!

  • that totally sounds like the baby t-rex from Jurassic park!

  • Beautiful dog, but she sounds like an old fashioned steam whistle!

  • Lone Wolf

  • Constipation is a bitch . . . and this bitch needs some ex.lax.

  • @danilno nope! its a breed of its own called the new guinea singing dog!

  • Wolf-Dog Hybrid........

  • @danilno no

  • they are genetically distinct from the dingos. ITs most likely dingos evolved from them

  • This is what i would suppose a pregnant woman would sound like.

  • very funny dog

  • Poor Girl. She is agitated about something. (Head-Toss + Singing)

    Amazing animal. CRICKY! (R.I.P. Stevo)

  • @Prometheus1st no that just what they do that y they call it a singing dog

  • @VioletFoxx Actually they are the rarest breed of dog in the world. It IS possible to keep one as a pet. I know many who do.

  • rbsimmon, Aria (Tari--Jaya's 2008 littermate) responded to her mother singing. We listen to singer vocalizations pretty often...but she never responds...now hearing her mothers voice was like turning on a light switch! Aria looks so much like Samber!

  • Evil!

  • Where do I get one

  • why is that dog in a zoo? That's just wrong.

  • @patriotsprevail Just because it has the word "dog" in it's name doesn't mean it's a house pet. New Guinea singing dogs are an extremely endangered breed of wild dog.

  • @VioletFoxx Actually, that's hard to say. They're related to dingos, which most people think are descended from domestic dogs. That would make them feral, not wild.

  • @patriotsprevail why? how can you say keeping an animal in a zoo is wrong? like what determines whitch animals can be kept in zoos and what can;t....? at least in a zoo it has good vet care and is well looked after by zoo keepers who work there because they care about animals - its a very rare breed of dog and they need to be protected, which the are in zoos.... before you say something is 'wrong' you need to ask yourself why you think that before you say it...

  • Great job catching her singing! My two sang all the time but as soon as I break out the camera.. they get shy! LOL!

  • What is on it's neck?

  • That is not howling. It sounds like a dying cow.

  • What a beautiful dog!

  • the poor quality audio makes him sound much sadder, that's the normal howl

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeet=))

  • beautiful dog.

i hope this special breed survives.

  • I would love to have one of those. too bad i don't have a house where he can run and jump.

  • This is a Singing Dog of New Guinea. A wild dog. almost extinct.

Their history is quite a fascinating read.

  • Yes...why is this dog in the zoo? Horrible if he is kept there. No wonder he's screaming.

  • Think things through please. As 'house pets', or 'common pets' dogs can thrive within the human environment and under our care, however for example dingo's they are wild and therefore should be let free. You are illogical if your saying let a dog out instead of a wild polar bear...

  • what is a dog doing in a zoo?

  • грустная такая :(

  • hahahahaha! i just think thats amusing!

  • I would shit my pants if I was in the woods and heard that.

  • @Bravehart10000

    dont forget the toilet paper.

  • Wow, that voice is gorgeous. X3

  • There's one to piss off the neighbors.

  • 5silverfox, thank you for posting this up. it was really amazing.. made me think of wolves a thousand years ago running under the cover of the clouds on a cold moonless night...

  • haha. that was cheesy.

  • if you're in the UK, you can see a beautiful pair of these dogs at the Sandwich Rare Breed Centre in Kent. these dogs are amazing.

  • Mom, what are you doing on YouTube? (from Jaya, Samber's little girl pup from 2008).

  • they say these dogs sing, i think it jus kinda sounds like a howl, interesting lil dogs though, my pit bull kinda sings when i get home, like he wines, howls and moans but its all a kinda combination

  • If you listen closely, you can hear them modulate their howl. Not even wolves have this ability. They almost never bark. My wife and I call them cat-foxes because of the way the act and move.

  • interesting, i wouldn't know lol, its unfortunate there are only 200 left, hopefully they can like breed it, bring it back ye know, correct me if im wrong but i think sens they were isolated on that island for like 4000 years they had no natural predators and so when predators were introduced these dogs were so nice they just didn't stand a chance. But i dunno, maybe it was lie a virus or something, do ye know?

  • It was humans.

When mega-fauna species go extinct, it's ALWAYS humans.

Though in this case, I don't know if it was mostly NZ natives fault or Europeans fault.

  • well actually these were introduced to Papua New Guinea (not NZ) by humans, either in the Holocene or when the Aborigines ancestors passed through PNG, just like Dingoes in Australia. as for why they are declining, it is probably overhunting of prey items by hunter-gatherer humans, which now have increased survivorship due to modern medicine etc.

These dogs might actually have participated in hastening the extinction of native PNG animals.

Otherwise, you are right, it is always humans.

  • Well, they're howling, but the sound is modulating.

  • Ah the neighbours dog is barking now after hearing it haha

  • FIRST COMMENT XD

woah ive been searching all over to hear one of these actually sing, its not what i expected really.

  • hahaha that would be hilarious... you walk to the dog and it is like... AND IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIEEEEEIIIIIIIIIIIII WILL ALWAAAYYYSS LOOOVE YYYOUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TopSideUp LOL FUNNY

  • @TopSideUp Haha
