  • • Hello. I am new to grape growing. I planted in late May three sticks and now 6 vines (2 from each) are about 10-12 feet long. I would like them to go along my sundeck (10 ft high). Vines already climbed up to the sundeck and started moving along. In 2 months it will be freezing here in Pennsylvania. When should I stop the vines' growth (prune them)? They still need another 7-10 ft to go along the sundeck.

What should I do to make my grapes not only the decoration pieces but also productive?

  • Great info thanks.

  • How would I prune a 7 year old muscadine vine that has never been pruned? Is it safe to cut it back to just the main trunk and arms? It is really huge now and I don't want to kill it.

  • hire a professional and don't mess it up

  • Hello and thank you for the video. We have just moved into a place that has quite a few grape vines. Most are green table grapes. How does one know without knowing the species? Is there any characteristics that we could go on as to if to cane or spur prune? Thank you.

  • Is there a video on how to train and develop the trunk? I just planted a bare root Flame Seedless that I want to grow along an arbor. How so I get the trunk growing tall and thick without it starting to shoot out? Right now, it is only about 6 inches tall. How many years will it take to produce fruit?

  • You can expect fruit within 2 to 4 years. Just cut off all the unwanted shoots and keep training it to your arbor. Before you know it, it will be huge.

  • finally a video showing some actual pruning. but what if you have a baby vine. show i wait until its longer?? or thicker?? mines is not reaching the trellis yet.

  • the first year there is no cutting

  • OK. I have all my vines planted and posts in the ground. I have Thompson (head trained and flame (cordon). Tell me what system is best for both. Kniffen, umbrella, blah blah blah. Thanks.

    Please help.

  • Wonderful, informative video. I learned a

whole bunch. I want to learn how to prune my vines better.
