HOLD ON!!! He most likely isn't over eating becasue she is working 3 jobs, and the economy is bad, so how would he consume all that food? And you guys have to take into account on what the industrie does to our food! I mean come on, its practically fake! Most of the stuff in fast food, and packaged foods are made of processed crap, and your body isn't made to handle that crap, So your body stores it. And our world just evolves around trying to sell chemicals to "fix" the "issues" they caused...
its funny the "addiction" is really gluttony and greed. learn some self-control and stop blaming it on something else. btw im not referring to the mother.
@JoFrBl food addiction is addiction, too. But it's not really for food but for the stuff that's in the food, like sugar or some stuff in modern fast food that can make you addicted if you eat too much of it, or too often.
Of course some are just gluttons with mental problems. But they'd have to go to a shrink (in both cases), too.
@JoFrBl Yes he probally has an addiction. But you have to take into account that America allows the industry to put chemicals into our foods that isn't natural. And natuarly our bodies aren't made to handle these chemicals so it just stores it. And the only reason why your body would keep telling you that its hungry is becasue its not getting what it needs.
Come on America, get off your lazy ass and get in the gym, if you put shitty food in your body your going to get shitty results, its not rocket science
550 pounds is not matter of overeating or a lack of exercise. It's too extreme for that. Most of us could eat all we can of the most fattening of food and could get no exercise at all, yet our body weight would be no more than a little higher or lower than it would be had we taken care of ourselves.
my step brother AND step sister have an addiction to food. it's real. these people need help. in this case, the mother needed to get help for her kid though.
@deadlystarfire I think people with such food addictions shouldn't be a reason to have governments get involved in what people eat, they should check themselves in a treatment center. I agree, people should get help.
@deadlystarfire Yes its probally an addiction. But you have to take into account that America allows the industry to put chemicals into our foods that isn't natural. @Multi123User The body tends to not store chemicals that it doesn't need, it expels it. We pee and crap the things we ingest that aren't needed. The kid isn't eating because he's not getting what he needs. He's still ingesting at least the minimal amount of vitamins and minerals he needs. It has to do more with abnormalities in brain and hormone chemistry that would tell an individual that he's full. Fast food bypasses this in a sense, in that it catalyzes the release of dopamine in the brain.
@silos201 One of the primary chemicals that gives us the sense of satisfaction. Over years of eating fast food, a person is going to develop the need to release more dopamine in order to get the feeling of satisfaction. It's close to how some drugs work.
For those people who have suffered with both drug and food addictions... the addiction is very real... to mock people because it's not cocaine is not just naive and ignorant, it's downright retarded.
@yestouchmybutt my only problem with what u r saying that makes it hard to agree with u is that drugs like cocaine, alters the mind, with addicting chemicals, and that makes people continuously uses them even though their body says 'no'. While your everyday types of food does not. So i do not see the reason for anyone saying food addiction is an actual thing. If u can explain to me how it is then im 100% on board with your theory.
@Graham6762 Um you have to take into account that America allows the industry to put chemicals into our foods that isn't natural. I'm sure losing 15 pounds wouldn't kill me. I didn't get this way because I have a disease. It's because I eat too much chocolate, don't eat enough veggies, and enjoying sitting on my butt instead of going for a jog.
@Matthew0161 Well it isn't and it is, because being obese can lead to heart disease, blood clots, diabetes, clogged arteries, heart attack, stroke, asthma, self esteem issues, ect.

At 550 pounds, that teenager is morbidly obese. His chances of living past the age of 30 are very low. He'll probably have a heart attack before he's 18.
He needs help.
Should we take him away from his mom? I don't know. I think the 2 of them need serious therapy and medical help.

Food is an acceptable addiction. Like ads aimed at Tobacco companies, what about the fat cats (no pun intended) getting rich off of people's addiction to food?
As somebody who has struggled with an eating disorder, I'm going to side with Ana and Jayar. If you have an addiction that serious, there is only so much other people can do to stop/ help you. With a mom working that much the situation is made even more difficult. My heart goes out to both of them.
the solution is fasting (not eating for 24/48/72 hrs) & only eating when hungry (actual hunger, not any feeling in the abdomen which many humans call "i'm starving"), & HEMPseeds aught 2 b the main food... 4 most mammals
It seems to me that the underlying issues isn't really about food in this case. The obvious question should be "why does this woman have to work three jobs?" When you have a society where people have to hold down three jobs to get by, can you really be surprised when they aren't around to parent their kids as much as necessary and keep on top of these issues? Maybe we wouldn't have happened if people could have ONE job that pays a livable wage.
@cletedawgthewalmart did you also sit on your ass all day and have your mom get the food for you? were you eating excessive 3+ meals at a time? and side note everyone's body is different some people save more fat then other that's genetics though
@cloudvszell nope didnt sit on my add, i did take in about 4 thousand calories daily tho.. i stayed active... no one told this kid to lay down all day and be a lazy fuck.. when i was a kid there wasnt a day that i didnt go outside and play ball, run, ride my bike, lift weights, skateboard, everything.. kids need to quit being lazy.. and yeah metabolism speed is genetic... but theres no excuse to be 550 pounds when your that young idk if your dads fat alber
@cletedawgthewalmart i wasn't trying to justify the kid I'm just saying your comparison to you and him isn't relative unless you did the same things and i totally agree kids are getting lazier i have a son and i rarely will sit down and watch tv with him and because of that those odd ties i do he isn't interested in tv but thats how some parents raise their kids these days is go watch tv or what game do you want so you leave me alone its getting disgusting
@96AGee obesity is NOT a disease, the body can not fight it, its based on food consumption, there can be diseases that may result in obesity or gaining of weight but over all obesity is not a disease. a disease is a pathogen that disrupts the body's normal function resulting if its viral fever and other such reactions. diseases are countered by the positive and negative feed back system there is no resistance to gaining of weight as its the bodies reaction for excess amounts
It's not actually quite the same... Recent studies HAVE shown that you can become addicted to crap food; however, it is not as bad in at least the withdrawal phase.. and your dependency is more likely to decrease over time with abstinence from it, rather than many drugs which our brains become hard-wired to desire
@hempartist420 think about it though, this kid probably doesnt even have a memory when he wasnt obese. I can really sympathize with someone like that.
@hempartist420 You consider every addiciton a valid disease excpet addiciton to food wen it's basically the same mechanism. Setting different standards for effectively identical things is hypocritical.
@hempartist420 I didn't say "the same thing" idiot, I said if the addiction to drugs is considered a disease, then addiction to food has to be considered one to. That's like saying "if you think cancer and the flu are the same thing, there is something wrong with you." Regardless of their severity they're both diseases!
@MrOcskai 1. I'm not a due. 2. I don't really care about your opinion on the matter. 3. this will be the last time I reply to your "dude, no" and "it's not".
@SynysterCondom funny, when your addicted to certain substances your body stops producing certai chemicals...if you have diabetes you don't produce insulin...if your doing meth all the time you don't produce your own dopeamine, how about these 62 thumbs up learn a little medical facts?
disease -A disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, esp. one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury
@96AGee Wooooohh.. I thought that the term 'disease' applied to very different conditions from 'adiction'.
But acording to you.. yes IN FACT, a disease is an adiction... can't stand this kind of half assed answers...... You have a bad case of stupidity adiction right there my friend... or rather said... SOME STUPIDITY DISEASE, because, yes in fact, those terms apply just the same.
@96AGee um, but obesity ISNT an addiction to food. its definition literally means to be FAT.
"Obesity is a term used to describe body weight that is much greater than what is considered healthy. If you are obese, you have a much higher amount of body fat than is healthy or desirable" - Google Health
Where do you see anything about an addiction to eating cake? lol =P
@ihaterobbie123 A symptom or result of a disease shouldn't be referred to as a disease itself. Liver failure would be the result of the liver succumbing to a liver disease, of which there are several types, not a disease itself. The same goes for pulmonary failure. It would be a result of a pulmonary disease such as COPD (caused mainly by smoking) or Coronary Artery Disease (which would relate to obesity) and not a disease itself.
@BloodRedLegend You could make that point by asserting it's a disorder as that is when functionality is lost not the events leading up to it and I'll concede. That doesn't make obesity a disease as it's still a means by which other diseases arise and, itself, isn't harmful. In other words it's still a medium.
Obesity can be caused many ways, the only instance in which someone is predisposed to obesity that we know of is a glandular malfunction which is where functionality is lost.
@ihaterobbie123 I understood completely what you meant. I wasn't disagreeing with your underlying point, I just didn't quite think it was worded properly.
I totally blame the mother! He didn't just become 500 pounds overnight! It was ongoing and when you start seeing him getting super over weight you need to intervene!
Dont go to Burger King everyday.....I mean did he gain 400 pounds in 1 day? Im sure it has been going on for a while she could of changed someone whenever he was starting to get big.
im a fat ass, im 17 and im 220, i got a belly but i got sum muscle too. now ppl who say that obesity is a disease are stupid, i know what im doin, i eat vegetables and fruits every single day, but i also like red meat, so please, it aint no disease, just cut away the fatty meals and you will b 50 pounds lighter in 8 months.
my family rarely eats out. my mom makes all of our food. we don't order out. or by frozen foods either. she just make everything from beginning to end. home made foods. are much more healthier
its a problem with american culture=the average 14 year old has seen how many hours of tv? the average 30 min cartoon has a 20 minute run time leaving 10 mins for commercials
how many mcdonal burger king dairy queen wendys pizza hut commercials has this 550 lbs child seen in his lifetime?
My dad is in his 60's and I'm in my mid 20's and both of us know we could both stand to loose a few pounds as we are both close to the 300 marker, but we are also both over 6' tall, so that's not really saying a whole lot. But come on, this kid has got some problems even if he is Andre the Giant in height.
"an authoritative figure telling him you can't do this, you have to eat healthy might not be enough."
What kind of bullshit is this? Of course it's her fault, whose been feeding him for the last 14 years? Who created this addiction? And who did nothing about it until he was super morbidly obese?
I do agree with the ruling though, it is pretty merciful and gives her one last chance. I don't think she deserves one but it would be better for the kid.
Looks like this kid was left alone since early childhood and food was his companion...or pacifier. some foods are addictive...like those frosted sugar cookies at Wal-Mart! I call them cocaine cookies because I will get out of my bed at three am to buy them...Look at all the colors:)
Economy in the toilet, hearing that statement along with hearing that children are becomming THIS overweight, it makes me wonder how many sane people are left, smart spenders, people who identify wrong, where have they went?
@PearceCTV there's a big difference between overweight and morbidly obese. yes most Americans are overweight, but few are as insanely huge as this 550 lb kid.
hell no i say take him away, i mean foster homes suck but atleast they would have more time to look after him then his mom with three jobs. i mean 550 pounds! fuck no get that kid out of there before he has a flab over dose
And I thought I was fat... I'm 197. I was 210 and I'm working on getting into the 180's. I would be so ashamed, both of myself and of my family, if I was allowed to become so overweight. But fat people shouldn't be discriminated against. They should be HELPED to get back. Insulting them will only make them retreat and keep eating.
If she has to work three jobs that sucks and in that case then she has no buisness having custody of a young child that needs supervision. Taking him away is to save his life, literally.
OK...... So the Kid likes Do-Nuts.... Big Deal !...... But seriously folks his chances of living a decent life has already been ruined. Plus since he is BLACK He is going to look like a big fudge ball..... Maybe he could get around by just rolling where he wants to go. He will be so round ....His Nick-name will be "EIGHT BALL"
HOLD ON!!! He most likely isn't over eating becasue she is working 3 jobs, and the economy is bad, so how would he consume all that food? And you guys have to take into account on what the industrie does to our food! I mean come on, its practically fake! Food is an acceptable addiction. Like ads aimed at Tobacco companies, what about the fat cats (no pun intended) getting rich off of people's addiction to food?
kimberlymarie21990 1 year ago

@cletedawgthewalmart did you also sit on your ass all day and have your mom get the food for you? were you eating excessive 3+ meals at a time? and side note everyone's body is different some people save more fat then other that's genetics though
cloudvszell 1 year ago
@cloudvszell nope didnt sit on my add, i did take in about 4 thousand calories daily tho.. i stayed active... no one told this kid to lay down all day and be a lazy fuck.. when i was a kid there wasnt a day that i didnt go outside and play ball, run, ride my bike, lift weights, skateboard, everything.. kids need to quit being lazy.. and yeah metabolism speed is genetic... but theres no excuse to be 550 pounds when your that young idk if your dads fat alber
cletedawgthewalmart 1 year ago
@cletedawgthewalmart i wasn't trying to justify the kid I'm just saying your comparison to you and him isn't relative unless you did the same things and i totally agree kids are getting lazier i have a son and i rarely will sit down and watch tv with him and because of that those odd ties i do he isn't interested in tv but thats how some parents raise their kids these days is go watch tv or what game do you want so you leave me alone its getting disgusting
cloudvszell 1 year ago
@NorthValleys yes, in fact, obesity IS a disease. You can be addicted to food just the same as you can be addicted to alchohol and other drugs.
96AGee 1 year ago 9
@96AGee obesity is NOT a disease, the body can not fight it, its based on food consumption, there can be diseases that may result in obesity or gaining of weight but over all obesity is not a disease. a disease is a pathogen that disrupts the body's normal function resulting if its viral fever and other such reactions. diseases are countered by the positive and negative feed back system there is no resistance to gaining of weight as its the bodies reaction for excess amounts
cloudvszell 1 year ago
@96AGee
It's not actually quite the same... Recent studies HAVE shown that you can become addicted to crap food; however, it is not as bad in at least the withdrawal phase.. and your dependency is more likely to decrease over time with abstinence from it, rather than many drugs which our brains become hard-wired to desire
OdinLowe 1 year ago

@hempartist420 You consider every addiciton a valid disease excpet addiciton to food wen it's basically the same mechanism. Setting different standards for effectively identical things is hypocritical.

@hempartist420 I didn't say "the same thing" idiot, I said if the addiction to drugs is considered a disease, then addiction to food has to be considered one to. That's like saying "if you think cancer and the flu are the same thing, there is something wrong with you." Regardless of their severity they're both diseases!

disease -A disorder of structure or function in a human, animal, or plant, esp. one that produces specific signs or symptoms or that affects a specific location and is not simply a direct result of physical injury

@96AGee What comes with obesity is a disease. obesity is excess of fat. DIABETES is a disease.
Alansr10 1 year ago
@96AGee You can be addicted to food yes, but do not pretend for a second that it is the same type of addiction as chemical addiction in drugs.
influenztial 1 year ago
@influenztial All addiction occurs in the brain. Food, alcohol, nicotine, etc.
MrPmj1979 1 year ago
@MrPmj1979 I never said addiction didn't occur in the brain. Not sure what that has to do with anything.
influenztial 1 year ago
@96AGee Wooooohh.. I thought that the term 'disease' applied to very different conditions from 'adiction'.
But acording to you.. yes IN FACT, a disease is an adiction... can't stand this kind of half assed answers...... You have a bad case of stupidity adiction right there my friend... or rather said... SOME STUPIDITY DISEASE, because, yes in fact, those terms apply just the same.
adriumroot 1 year ago
@96AGee um, but obesity ISNT an addiction to food. its definition literally means to be FAT.
"Obesity is a term used to describe body weight that is much greater than what is considered healthy. If you are obese, you have a much higher amount of body fat than is healthy or desirable" - Google Health
Where do you see anything about an addiction to eating cake? lol =P
Solidox2k 1 year ago
@96AGee Nope, wrong.
Alcoholism isn't a disease, liver failure is.
Food addiction isn't a disease, obesity isn't, pulmonary failure is.
ihaterobbie123 1 year ago
@ihaterobbie123 A symptom or result of a disease shouldn't be referred to as a disease itself. Liver failure would be the result of the liver succumbing to a liver disease, of which there are several types, not a disease itself. The same goes for pulmonary failure. It would be a result of a pulmonary disease such as COPD (caused mainly by smoking) or Coronary Artery Disease (which would relate to obesity) and not a disease itself.
BloodRedLegend 1 year ago
@BloodRedLegend You could make that point by asserting it's a disorder as that is when functionality is lost not the events leading up to it and I'll concede. That doesn't make obesity a disease as it's still a means by which other diseases arise and, itself, isn't harmful. In other words it's still a medium.
Obesity can be caused many ways, the only instance in which someone is predisposed to obesity that we know of is a glandular malfunction which is where functionality is lost.
ihaterobbie123 1 year ago
@ihaterobbie123 I understood completely what you meant. I wasn't disagreeing with your underlying point, I just didn't quite think it was worded properly.

My dad is in his 60's and I'm in my mid 20's and both of us know we could both stand to loose a few pounds as we are both close to the 300 marker, but we are also both over 6' tall, so that's not really saying a whole lot.

But fat people shouldn't be discriminated against. They should be HELPED to get back. Insulting them will only make them retreat and keep eating.
