As horrifying as the Body Snatchers are, I think John Carpenters The Thing is worse. Like the body snatchers, the thing takes over a persons body, steals their identity and has a terrifying scream, but there is no chance of coming back from the thing.

this version is highly under-rated. for what it is, it is a very tight movie with some truly creepy / eerie moments....the most recent adaption (with nicole kidman) is the one to stay away from...talk about snoozefest...i think part of that movie was to have the audience fall alseep...that way...that way....they git you....they git you when you sleep...

In 1993 Abel Ferrara made 2 great but very underrated films - this one and Dangerous Game. Body Snatchers was interesting but very short remake. It looked like some scenes were suddenly abrupt. Anyway they put some really memorable things. Gabrielle Anwar showed brilliant acting. I love films about body snatchers - these films, The Thing (1982), The Hidden (1987), The Arrival (1996), Them (1996), Mimic (1997), The Lake (1998), The Faculty (1998), Terminal Invasion (2002), Slither (2006) etc

The problem with this version it was set on an army base, so you didn't get that same sense that things were that different. Although the ending did make you want to know what happens to the two survivors.
