I am a 32yr CWA member and sure didn't need to see this Jackwagon chiming in on the issues that we are facing as a union. How many good jobs has his administration caused to be shipped overseas due to the restrictions and high business taxes that they have implemented? How many good Union jobs has he caused to be lost in the Houston/Clear Lake area due to his not funding NASA? Socialism at it's best to say the least!

and it has helped me out a lot as I am between school and work at the moment. I have had insurance since I left Japan when i was on their national plan. I came back and was able to get back on my mother's plan, and just pay my portion of it through freelance work/part timing. Preparing for graduate school with peace corp component so I'll be covered once Jan. hits. And I can get off my mom's and just use money to help pay da bills at the house. I grew up in a multigeneration house

so please do not retort with a "you need to move out period" because for my family this is not the norm especially if they see that if there are unmarried young adults in the fam, surely they can stay in a house, and just help with the bills. in the end the elderly are able to save up a lot of money, and that is why we weren't as affected by the recession as most people were. Realize multi-generation house holds is something very American, and its a returning trend now.

your comments show you really dont understand how unions work. I dont have a union boss. There is a democratically elected president of my local, he is also our business agent. He is the guy that finds me work and sends me to said construction jobs to work for the employer. essentially an employment agency only they ensure i am treated fairly and paid my value and that i have healthcare and pension money paid in on my behalf.

The business agent in my local is paid a comfortable middle class wage. it is less than six figures but it is a comfortable wage nonetheless. years where there is a lot of work and overtime, many members in our local make far and away more money than him. so I dont really see him hobknobbing around in thousand dollar suits and eating steak while I eat top ramen. in fact some jobs he has come to visit on to see how things are going I have bought him steak when we stopped for dinner after work.

I have had nonunion jobs where i was able to get away with sloughing off and doing nothing and not worry about getting canned. CWA is so two-faced, you support The Employee Free Choice Act yet your going to force me, a VZB employee, into the union and force me to pay dues. I did not want or need a union to get to the position I'm in. I worked hard to get here and don't need some lazy union guy wanting my job bumping me becuse he worked in Verizon longer. I will not pay union dues and will start a class action lawsuit naming Verizon and CWA if one cent of my pay is taken without my consent.

The Employee Free Choice Act provides for an OPEN ballot. This means that EVERYONE knows how you voted, For or Against, Unionization.  Of course, once those that support going to the Union find out that YOUR AGAINST IT, your life at your work place will continue to be bliss. I will remind you of the Teamsters in the early 1900's and the violance that they exacted on those against them. "Union" is just another work for "Terrorism"!

People would be thrilled to join and support unions again if they saw unions actually fighting to restore decent wages to trades, skilled labor, and all American jobs. This is an issue that crosses party lines. We all want our good jobs, decent wages, and benefits back. Quit giving them to India, and quit giving them to illegals!

I work for a Union company. Unions DEMAND compensation outside of what would be paid on the fair market for the same service. I have a BS in Engineering and I would be able to find work that pays the same as I am paid now. How does a person with only a high school diploma go out and find a job that pays 60k+? He can't! So when the unions, like the UAW, get paid far outside the skill level of their compensation, it is impossible for them to maintain the lifestyle they are so accustom.

I am not sure what you are trying to say...OK I understand the skill level you have.. i understand you went to school... good for you. What I dont understand.. the statement about getting paid outside the skill level of their Compensation. The company I work for, the union has made the pay rate even better for the employees of the company. It might not be as much an Engineer, but it is much better when what I was getting. and the Union did this. fought to keep us with health care.

Unskilled labor receiving compensation far outside the skill they preform. Think of it this way, getting paid $25/hr to flip burgers. The food store goes out of business, where do you find a job now that pays the same?

but here is another way of looking at it. you flip burgers for 25$ an hour, the job goes belly up, you are a union employee... you go to the union and say I just lost my job because of this.. most unions (well the unions i know of) will help you find another job and I think they have it so you get 6 months of the same pay, to get a chance to fix the problem.

I was hired by the company and the only reason i went to the company was because of the union. listen i understand, jobs are tight and companys are going out of business left and right, and to the people that read this... I really hope this does not happen to you union and non-union alike. but at the same time remember one thing... if you get a great job and you are not skilled in that area, do not live above your means. save your money.. and get the training to be skilled in that job title.

I've worked for this company 30+ years and about 10 years ago they had a big hiring phase...Hundreds of college grads were applying and then testing for the highest paying (technical) jobs and they couldn't even pass the test...So much for your degree!!!

But I was hired on at top level (three year equivalent work in title) off the street. And by the way, I smoked that test, leaving the testing lab hours before anyone else.

What about illegal immigration? Outsourcing jobs to illegals is just as bad for the American middle class as outsourcing jobs overseas. People say they only take jobs Americans don't want. What a lie! Once you could make a good living as a roofer, plumber, mason, electrician, and almost every other construction job. No more. We see it in the factories and call centers too (what few are left). Now they're letting Mexican truck drivers drive across the border and go anywhere in America.
