  • Christians do sacrifice something.......their free will.

  • I think Greg is struggling to say that he is basically Agnostic with certain degree of certainty there might not be a god - LOL - I love his open mind though! : )

  • Naturalism or atheist? I keep my faith in a bad religion...

  • Opens up with the best Bad Religion song ever.

  • @ ReallyApe I've never had to convince myself of anything.I know! & who says that ppl like myself wont be able to prove that we've heard the voice of God? Come judgement day,The ppl that have heard the audible voice of God will know who he is.That's how we'll be able to prove it! & while all the non-believers stand confused & crying,we will know who to walk to.Science is weak & evil. These disasters are man-made.God is a real & loveing Father! On your Death-Bed you will call for Him!God Bless..

  • @SmokinMo11 What have you been smoking, Moe?

  • @SmokinMo11 How the hell is science evil.

  • @SmokinMo11 The audible voice of God? Eh. . . you know what a psychiatric ward is, right? If I were you, I'd check into one; you might have schizophrenia.

  • @reallyapeThat's your opinoin.Google ppl that have heard the audible voice of God.Some are nutty,Most are not.I am not.I've heard his voice,& it's the only voice I've ever heard.(In that way) He let me hear his voice & asked me not to do something.I will sacrifice what he told me not to do til the day I die.I know God is real! There is only 1 answer on this earth & i pray that, you find it. I did & Im very happy.Ask him to hear his voice. Then we'll see who's right & who's wrong!Ask til it happens

  • @SmokinMo11 So if so many people "know" this, why can't they prove it?

Also, I'm sorry, but I'm not like you, and I don't need gods. It's quite sad so many people have had to convince themselves that some higher being is the reason they do everything the way they do.

Lastly, of course something I say is my opinion. This is just me giving you basic information, nothing to do with religion, but when people say something, unless stated otherwise, it's their opinion.

  • @SmokinMo11 Did you know that your brain is affected by stimuli?

  • Whatever you "study" or "discover" naturally is still your own view. With all due respect,It does'nt ALL boil down to to just one humans insight & opinion but at least you have one.I'm non-denominational & I've heard the voice of God.I've been tested & I'm not some nut on YT.So now I know there is a God.You my friend,& we have met in the past thru a mutual friend, need to handle this differently if you want an answer(thru your heart).& yes God is a man.Believe, because the man is there!God is real!

  • @SmokinMo11 You can't "know". Religion is made so that the existence of a god cannot be proven or disproven. You can't have evidence fairies don't exist. You can't really prove they do either, unless everything we think we know so far is not entirely right. Same goes with a god.

  • booooooooooooo... you suck!

i want to hear n see the full band play! where are they???

  • Does anyone know the name of the song Greg plays at the very end?

  • @redsoxfan713

The fall of man (live agien) it's from the empire cd

  • @pbrskater26 thank you sir

  • Wow, he looks like Bruce Willis... with hair.

  • god is made man, so you'll never find the truth

  • STOP SAYING UMM

  • Great video!

  • this dude says UM alot

  • Don't atheists seem kind of uptight to anyone else? Obviously most religious people are but it seems like atheists are too. I think belief in god is a natural human inclination but that religion is a way for people who want power to take advantage of it

  • @dubified89 BTW I don't mean Graffin I mean the kid who was talking about the award that they gave to him. Maybe he's just like that for different reasons and it's inappropriate for me to judge. Just that I've seen others promoting atheism that have had the same kind of look like they're locked into a belief (or disbelief) and not a forward open thinker. I mean anyone who's rational can safely say that the things written in religious texts didn't happen so I'm not saying that. I'm just kind of

  • @dubified89 saying what Graffin said about how we don't know what all the answers are to the nature of existence and maybe there's more to it than what some people atheistic people assume. If you just look at the way things work like cells it seems 'miraculous' enough in itself without adding any mythology to it. And using mind expanding plants like cannabis and psychedelics can broaden your perspective as well

  • @dubified89 Nice scientific way to say smoking weed is awesome... hahaha low key.

  • He looks just like Maynard James Keenan....lol.....What a genious man......

  • HIs head is shiny : P

  • G.G your the men

  • whats the other song he's playing at the end of this video?

  • @freewarrior1 Live Again (The Fall of Man)

  • Greg is so smart! I wish I could meet him. Awesome guy.

  • @rocknrollforever10 i just met him in detroit!

he kind of snubbed me...but im sure he was just either tired or had something to do.

  • @rocknrollforever10 he is a very nice guy in fact, met him last year on my flight from Auckland NZ to Melbourne Australia

  • @rocknrollforever10 He is a very nice bloke, met him on my flight from Auckland NZ to Melbourne Australia

  • What song is this?

  • @popples101 Which? There's Sorrow at first, then Cease and Live Again in the end

  • @EratoTiaTuatha the first song is suffer, not sorrow

  • @xsommersteinx sorry, my bad ^^

  • Scientific "naturalism" as Greg uses the term presupposes various metaphysical and epistemological tenets which are at odds with the ones presupposed by theism. His particular position on whether or not god exists is philosophical, not scientific (as are all positions on the existence of god.)

  • @DruDP Lol... Just because he doesn't respect an unfalsifiable hypothesis doesn't mean his naturalism isn't scientific.

  • Comment removed

  • @d34thguitarr I think you misunderstood my point. His "naturalism" isn't scientific because naturalism is a philosophical theory about science. Specifically, it's a philosophical theory about what can count as an explanation. The point he's making is that naturalism says more than atheism because naturalism provides a framework against theism for how to explain the world, i.e. we can explain it scientifically. But that's a philosophical view about science. It's not science itself.

  • @DruDP Oh I see. Very good point then, yes. haha (x

  • the lighting isn't very good for his performance.

  • @SDLocalBro: Pretty sure Greg would rather we take a position of unaffected civility than a position of angry internet disagreement. I agree with your post, but I think internet anger pretty much goes against the empirically based position on which we stand.

  • @wbuschman Couldn't agree more! Anger clouds judgment far too much.

  • Greg, vc é foda '-'

  • i think we all agree greg graffin is an amazing person, unique and overlooked by the mainstream. But his insight is great. And i say this not as an theist but as a philosoper.

  • Comment removed

  • How is this man so PERFECT?! He is overall the most handsome thing that has "naturally" ever happened.... lol

    I LOVE Professor Graffin ;]

  • @srvtheservants

    @srvtheservants

he really looks good here! I'm also mesmerized by his hands here... and of course his voice. And his intellect.

  • @srvtheservants

I agree, he's gorgeous, and so intelligent. I admire him quite a lot.

  • Great man.

  • Wow, its amazing how hard rocking and fucking incredible Suffer is and how good it sounds acoustic.

  • Mexicans are Christian

  • referring to that douche in the video at 1:05

  • people who say um and like every other um, word, like really like um like irritate um like, um, me. um like like um likium SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!.. sorry.. :(

  • I wish Richard Dawkins would interview Greg. What an amazingly wonderful combination that would be... let's all contact Richard (or his crew) through his website, let's see if we can make it happen. Thumbs up if you're going to do this.

  • @SpamAccount009 Greg interviewed Richard Dawkins for his thesis, which made interesting reading. I'm trying to get Greg on the list to speak at the Oxford Union.

  • Zeus bless Greg!!

  • @judgementday65 ....your a self-centered, egocentric idiot. If you care to brush up on American History, Christians were the group who made the least amount of sacrifices, and profited the most from exploiting others... (Chinese, Native American, Irish, African-American, Mexican)---Read a book besides the Bible. People like you listen for affirmation with disregard to information. WTF have Christians ever sacrificed...reading the bible in a public school is the only thing that comes to mind.

  • @SDLocalBro Or even tell them to READ the Bible. There is so much shit in that book, nobody can go through it with an open mind and come out a believer.

  • @SDLocalBro

hey, (i didnt read the post of judgementday65 and i guess he s a "real" christian)

i agree with you in your main points, but...

i see the whole thematci about religions from another point of view

by growing up in europe, with all that history its maybe easier for me to see the development and the part of philosophy in the development, christianity was mainly built up here and with the development of this religion (with all the

  • @SDLocalBro

horrible steps (witchslaying crosswars)) something new developed, like for example science (of course with a big part of the jewish and moslem people!) but also from people like galileo! further on i allow myself to say that ATHEISM or how greg calles it for him self NATURALISM is based on the development of christianity, same with the individualism,... yes christianity has slaughtered down a lot of people but still... its our base and thats where we come from, and i am

  • @SDLocalBro

happy of the stage we are at.. only the fundamentalists can hurt our development (from either side)

  • @SDLocalBro The very people you mentioned were themselves Christians.

  • @usfdude No. Chinese are typically either irreligious or Buddhist. Irish people are Catholic (excluding N. Ireland), as are Mexican people. African Americans during the founding of the U.S. were just being introduced to Christianity. Native Americans speak for themselves. Also as a footnote, Catholics are not Christians. Tell a Catholic that and you might get punched.

  • @SDLocalBro christians have never really arrived in the United States, but religious ppl. Jesus didn't teach religion, in fact, He really hated them. He just wanted that ppl follow his teachings and him. If you want to know what he taught, pick a Bible and read it seriously... it's "kinda" different as what most chistians say or practice.

  • @fsmith86 I have read the bible, twice...on my 3rd time now. It is very disturbing from the start..."God" punishes Sarai, (later "god" gave her a new name, Sarah) for letting Abram (later Abraham) sleep with their maid. Why would "god" not punish Abram for adultery, yet "god" punishes Sarai? What about the fact that "god" tells Abraham that Abraham must circumcise all males under his house, including people he bought? "God" tells Abraham to circumcise an adult male?-Genesis 16-17. Disgusting

  • @SDLocalBro There were the Quakers though, I don't think they ever really exploited anyone. Isn't the group who did most of the bad shit in America the 'Puritans'?

  • @SDLocalBro your comments is really idiotic also. please do not think you are smarter than you really are. religion and ethnic groups are two separate entities. the irish were all christian...most catholic. the african americans were christian. Most ethnic groups were christian besides a few so they did sacrifice the most because almost everyone was Christian. You need to learn history not anyone else.

  • @restarts82 Learn about the "2nd Great Awakening." Generations (100 years +) after the first slaves were brought to America, African descendants went on a conversion process (c. 1800). They organized separate churches form white Baptists and Protestant congregations, there was still a very strong pro-slavery sediment seeded in white churches. The belief in Christianity from African-Americans came only after their own culture had been stripped by white Christians, after decades of persecution.

  • @SDLocalBro Three of the five examples you have given are not even valid points. Three of the ethnic groups you have given were and still are predominately Christian. So Christians did sacrifice a lot more than everyone else because historically, America is christian.

  • @restarts82 Excuse you!!! Please feel free to do some research. Irish were highly persecuted against from Protestant Christians, for the fact they were Catholic. Louisville riot, Bloody Monday, Philadelphia Nativist Riot...Protestant Christians pulled Irish Catholics from their houses and slaughtered the Irish. There was an enormous anti-Catholic movement. Research the "Know Nothing Party." A party formed for the specific purpose of limiting the influence of Catholic Irish immigrants.

  • @SDLocalBro i don't care if you have anything against christians, but not all christians are like that

  • So what about the quality of life of the scandinavian countries (non religion countries, with the highest atheist %) or even many of the european countries? Religion doesnt mean social, economic or moral progress. If Greg has a good life, it is because of himself, dont forget that many america christians live under poverty and misery. The GReg's social condition is completely independent of any religion and he is not hypocrite and ingrate at all.

  • @judgementday65 Dude, are u like, fucking retarded or something?

oh no wait. ur just christian.

sorry got the 2 mixed up for a second.

  • @Pogokid150 wait... no, there is no difference =D

  • Don't you mean countless sacrifices of hundreds of thousands of slaves? Because that's how America was build.

  • @judgementday65 wow. you are almost amazingly empty minded.

  • @judgementday65 The great nation, a nation based on resources, greed and exploiting other countries. Graffin is speaking up against clear moral injustice and ignorance. If this makes Graffin a hypocrite I would see nothing wrong with hypocrisy. Religion has never built a great nation, it has only ruined them.

  • Experimentation? Verification? Discovery? But.........what about blind faith? Are you saying we should NOT be BLIND? Oh dear, that is a sinister and blasphemous thing to say!

It will take humanity another thousand years to open it's collective eye, supposing we even make it that long despite our own efforts to go extinct.

  • Josh, prophocies are goat shit, if I said I wanted rain, and it rained, I wouldn't think it was god or because I wished real hard, I would think it happened because some times it rains outside

  • @Vadersboy117

No one gives a shit what either one of you think...how is that?

  • The square root of the sum of the sample variables times 7.218 is my goo goo ga ga fuck Harvard. BR/ GG ROCKS!!!

  • i whole-heartedly agree w/ the way he explains his beliefs. very smart man who seems above the dogma from all sides..

  • greg is my hero =) he´s an awesome human being and THE best songwriter in punk history(sorry my opinion xD) BR funcking rockz <333

  • I agree that he is an amazing songwriter, and I take a great deal of inspiration from these songs in times of despair and hopelessness, like now. On a somewhat unrelated note, if you like his style of songwriting, you might like mine as well. It isn't like his, but it has some ideological similarities. If you comment my profile or message me with an email address on a fairly new server that allows big attachments (gmail, hotmail, a few others) I will send you MP3s of my songs.

  • its great harvard chose greg graffin instead of some fuckin lames ass sell out shitty classical musician

  • i dont think theres any umm sell out classical artist AHAHAHA

you my friend, are an idiot.

  • I wss going to say the same thing

  • Hey, both of you shut up. Look back at Vivaldi's first two vinyl records, way better than later on. And when he did that live one right before he signed with Warner Bros...where all you hear is fuzz and and feedback the crowd screaming with the occasional smash of a bottle... that was fuckin' music!

Then he went all Four Seasons shit...

  • 1:27 looks like he has just seen his dad stepping out naked from the shower

  • Ha ha ha yeah you are right

  • christians are the same dangerous kind of people like muslims or other religious hardliner

Like Lenin said: religion is opium for the people!

  • It was actually Karl Marx, but i get where you're going.

  • lenin was jew

  • are there any videos of the full songs?

  • I'll be transferring to UCLA in a year. Greg teaches there so hopefully I'll get to meet him one day. Thanks for posting this video.

  • i hope you get a class he teaches, he is a brilliant man. congrats on getting in to ucla btw

  • Amazing person, Amazing spokesman. Greg FTW !

  • gee getting to hear the whole performance might have been nice!

  • He's right. Findings in science should define the framework, a predetermined framework should not dictate scientific findings. That's a mistake some scientists make.

  • Or intelligent designers, there is no observible evidence to back any of their findings!

  • Why would there be? It's a belief, not a theory.

  • well, it doesnt chage the truth, its just that u were wrong in the first place. I understand that he wants to experiment on it and stuff, but he will soon realize, he was wrong.... (btw i LOVE his music)

  • Greg's the man... Wish I could see him play live... not to mention have a conversation with him ;]

  • ok naturalist then ..

  • wich song is that?

  • The first song is suffer the second is cease not sure of the name of the last song.

  • the last one is ´live again´ from Empire Strikes First

  • The last song is live again.

  • they should have invited whole band ;-)

  • and a good one.

  • Greg Graffin for president.

  • @CHALCOHOLIC that's Greg Graffin Ph.D.

  • I'm a herpetologist.

  • anyone make fun of the umm guy yet?

    FUCK HARVARD

  • ummm.... not umm yet umm will be sure to umm take le umm piss

  • even richard dawkins is agnostic, it's unscientific to say there's no god for sure, it just hasn't been proven

  • So is it also unscientific to say that there is no Santa Clause? Because I can't remember any Scientist disproving Santa's existence. How do you disprove an existence anyway?

  • Santa is a nordic god in combination with with saint nick.

    "Odin"

  • santa is real GTFO!!

  • It's HIGHLY unlikely, but even his his books he says well, maybe we'll see that atoms have an alien signature of creation, I'm totally an atheist myself, I don't actually believe that, I just think that the existence of God is a scientific question, Richard Dawkins knows way more about God than any pastor or priest

  • Santa never told anyone to kill people, so people don't bother trying to disprove him.

  • heheh yah and dog is god backwards, lol wierdo

  • it's also unrealistic to say anything is for sure.

  • the Great Greg Graffin!

  • greg is a great man. any man who devotes his life to finding the answers is a legend in my book

  • Glad I found this vid. Nice to hear him talking about science and its empirical nature.

  • this world needs more great men like Greg Graffin.

  • Greg should shave the rest of his hair off, him and Greg Hetson can start a club. Talking of Greg Hetson am I the only one who thinks he's a dead ringer of Lord Voldermort from Harry Potter?

  • I love Greg Graffin:)

  • if you live you life looking for some reward when you die then I think you are doing it for the wrong reasons. isn't that selfish? does your religion say that being selfish is wrong? I personally just try to be selfless and caring while i'm here and do what i can for this world and everything in it.I have no idea where we go when we die or if we go anywhere at all. I don't think anyone really has more than an idea that they thinks works for them. What some call blind faith I just call blind.

  • holy shit, i want to cry, greg i love yoou!!

  • ur so right my brother. (neighbour) iam agerman atheist ;)

  • It's logical people believe in an higher power. They need someone to hang on too because people aren't always there to help. They want to believe there's justice done to good and bad people (heaven/hell). And they wish to die peacefully and have an afterlife without problems, war, misery of earth. Logical see.

  • It was logical for people to believe in a god, hundreds of years ago when virtually everything was a black box. We had no idea how orwhy things happened soreligion was needed to explain and comfort us. Today however I see religion as a crutch. How are we to move further as a race when the masses are still suspending rationality for a book with as many inconsistencies as contradictions to itself. In my opinion God is available for those who are too weak to rely on their own thinking and abilities

  • Well people created those contradictions/ inconsesquences because they can't understand the bible. Doesn't change the main message of love Christ had/has. Just because people twist and do evil things in the name of God doesn't mean he is evil. Does it seem logical to you we can learn from his words/messages on how to live better and to learn how to become a better person (spiritually). Reaching for spiritual perfection is no bad goal. I can't learn from man because man is not perfect in essence.

  • I can see the bible as beneficial in terms of moral values, but these messages aren't exclusive to it's pages or christianity. Saying the bible has contradictions/inconsistencies due to Man's inability to understand contradicts itself once again. There is no room for error in the pages supposedly written by God himself through the men. When I see errors in the pages, I see errors in "God's message", which to me seems laughable. Also, you say you can't learn from man? would you elaborate?

  • I said I can't learn from man because he's not perfect in essence. I consider Jesus Christ was perfect in his teachings and the message(s) he tried to convey. I think the concept of giving your life for the sins of others is a beautiful concept and shows an enormous emotion, humbleness and apathy people never can give. Ofcourse there's people like MLK and Ghandi who's actions I admire but their main message basically was a continuation of what Jesus said.

  • So I rather stay with the source. Even the holyiest figures (priests) have showed they are able to do evil things. How can you learn from a role-model that abuses kids? Man shows anger, jealousy, hate, weakness, ignorance, arrogance, all the things wich make you unable to be spiritually enlightened.

  • Greg is awesome. he sorta resembles christopher meloni.

  • i like him he excepts his balding

  • i want yo' fade nigga.

  • Greg Graffin fucking rocks and totally deserved that award

  • What is the last song? Is it off one of his solo records?

  • That's "Live Again (The Fall of Man)" from The Empire Strikes First.

  • No its not...

  • The song is called Suffer

  • Greg is a smart guy, he doesn't simply deny things he discovers and searches them. Atheïsts can learn from this guy.

  • How can any place be better than earth? If paradise isn't family and friends...all right? You won't get that ANYWHERE ELSE. MAKE THE FUCKING MOST OF IT WHILE YOU CAN. Its a grim to realise that there are so many people who spend their whole lives putting emphasis on the "afterlife". Lets be honest, if you spend the whole of your life wondering what it will be like for you when you die (other than the matter of the will and inheritence when the time comes)...then you're dead already

  • If you believe in an after life, what would be the point? Why help people when you can just give them a bible and say, "see ya in heaven, its gonna be awesome", or pray for them.

I help people all the time, try to make their life a little better, because I understand that there is a possibility that this short existence is all we may have.

  • Believing a pain-free life awaits you tomorrow makes it easier to ignore other people's suffering today.

If you're not worried about yourself after dying, why would you be concerned for anyone else considering the same wonderfully perfect outcome awaits them after death?

On another issue, what's up with the devil? Why can't God just take him out, he is ALL POWERFUL, right? He's also ALL KNOWING, so wtf? You know his weaknesses...you have all the powers.......fuckin' do something!!!

  • If you had no choice to sin, then you'd just be God's puppet made to do whatever He wants. Giving us free will lets us choose to love Him or not. People choose evil and it hurts us. You can't really blame God for giving us the choice.

The reason you care about others is two fold. First, you want to end the suffering here. 2nd, you want them to share the same eternity. If you don't tell them about God, how can they choose to believe and follow Him?

  • It's called "Gods Plan". It says that our birth, death and everything in between are planned out by god. So if you believe that stuff you can't blam anyone for anything because they are just living out "Gods Plan". In that sence everyone is blameless, we ARE God's puppet(if you believe in that BS).

  • because then who would torture the bad people XD

  • Who ever dies first should text the rest of us the existence or lack of god. Thatd be real nice to do for your buddies.

  • well what greg was trying to point out was that he never said that god isnt real but as a naturalist he trys to find actual proof instead of just believing something on what someone else tells you.also a lot of religous communites try to force it on you witch really bugs me.its like you have no freedom for what you think and they'll threaten you with remarks like you will go hell.its just not right

  • Exactly. But I don't think that philosophy is limited to naturalism.

  • HAHAHA, believers.

what if you´re wrong about the big tika-tuka up the mountain. will you go to hell if you don´t believe in his power?

  • Why is it that non-believers mock believers who feel like they have a purpose to their lives? If non-believers are right, then what have believers lost by believing? In other words, when we die and it's lights out, who's gonna exist to feel stupid or wrong?

Now, you get urked when christians condemn you, but then you turn around and do the same? Hypocrite. You want society to be a certain way yet, you yourself are the epitomy of that which you despise.

  • Greg Greffin for president!!!!!!!!!

  • just because you can't explain the supernatural with natural means does not mean that it doesn't exist. So what if christians are wrong. If Naturalists are right, we won't know after we're dead anyway so it doesn't even matter, because according to them, we won't exist anymore anyways. If a christian is wrong they haven't lost anything. If naturalists are wrong they've lost everything. But, i know, it's all about your point of view. So why do we even argue about it if everyone is wrong?

  • you say a christian loses nothing. perhaps this is true in death but in life, thier beliefs will control the path they walk, and have affected many others throughout existence. Some would argue the actions of religious fundamentalist, in the name of god, have had quite negative consequences regarding humanity as a whole.

  • In death is what I was referred to. Good job. I also gree there have been times that religious extremists (be it whatever religion) have done things "in the name of god" that were perceived as negative to many. I would venture to say however, that these isolated events are overshadowed by the much good that Christians have done for humanity as a whole. If you study Christ's teachings, they don't conform nor speak to the negative actions of religious extremists.

  • If naturalists are wrong that doesn't mean Christians (or any Theists) are right. If there is a god, it's no more likely to be the god of the Bible than it is Zeus or Thor any other god. There are an infinite number of possible gods with no evidence for or against any of them, so your chances could never be greater than one in an infinity, which is essentially zero. If God is beneveolent, by definition he'd have to give you a reasonable opportunity of detecting his existance, which he doesn't
