You do realize the diminuendo at the end represents him losing his hearing, the last pizzs are the last notes he ever hears. It makes you wonder what was the last note Smetana ever heard.
@Korsair777 the dead calm but decisive and natural ending to this movement has got to be the ending of the work. it just makes sense. the almost inaudible pizz at the end with that modulation...classic smetana. i love it.
That sound at 3:46.... I hate that sound. It's the perfect example of the sound you hear in your head. It's horrible, annoying, and frustrating.
Though I'm not sure I have what he has, not a day goes by that I don't at least hear some kind of ringing in my head.
This song is a perfect example of what goes on in my head -_-

apparently, the piercingly high note starting at 3:46 is a musical simulation of the tinnitus from which smetana suffered
