  • What shocks me is that nearly all the people were black. It makes me sick to think that nothing was done. They were just shot to try and survive.

  • you are the greatest.

    greetings from german

  • I thought this was great! Poets talk straight to the heart.

    .

And New Orleans was murdered. The levees were blown.

  • @nameofthepen Another Arlo Guthrie!

  • this fucking SUCKS!!!!!!!!!! hahaha

  • you suck

  • They live there because it's their home. That's like asking why would anyone live in California; there's earthquakes there. First, a lot of the people stayed because we get hurricanes all the time, it's no big deal to us. Second, most of the people are poor and have no where else to go. Thirds, there homes lasted through countless other hurricanes, they had no reason to think this event would be any different.

  • A city of a million people, about 900,000 got out but 100,000 decided to stay. Ask yourself why they would do this. Several answers to this question but one of the primary reasons was the opportunity to loot the stores after the hurricane passed. Also, of the ones that remained, many were drug dealers and criminals that feared they would be identified if they evacuated to a relief center.

  • @ggehri The looting was made up in order to send in the troops to shoot them, liar. Blacks were not allowed to leave! They were turned back with guns and fences, kept in their ghettos.

    You are disgusting.

  • This song is the biggest load of horseshit Ive ever heard. First of all you must be an absolute idiot to live in a city that is BELOW SEA LEVEL. Its just a matter if time until something will happen to threaten the city. Second, the residents of New Orleans had a 5 day warning of Hurricane Katrina. Then a 4 day warning. Then a 3 day warning. Then a 2 day warning. Then the day it hit there was still time to evacuate. (In fact, the flooding started the next day.) But no.

  • definately true mate, that was I was thinking, and yea, why would anyone live in a city that below sea level? Best comment ever mate, only reason why I'm watching it is cause he plays awesome guitar.

  • you have to tell that the dutch folks ;)

  • @ggehri: half the netherlands is below sea level - that kind of land is usually well suited for farming, so at some point, people settled there. and their children stayed there. as did their grandchildren, and... ah well, you get the point.

as for the evacuation: in the congress report about the disaster, it says that evacuating a family of 4 cost around 1,000$, IF you have your own car. not everyone can afford that, esp. at the end of the month.

  • EXCELLENT CETTE CHANSON , j' was there !!!!

  • New Orleans was another reichstag fire...

  • Really, an oil war? I see...too bad you show none of the clips of the mass buses under water at the bus depot, that Nagin could of moved thousands of people with...yup...all W.'s fault.

  • Brilliant song. People should read the article "how the free market killed New orleans", you can find it on Google.

  • david we sing your praises you are the pete seeger of this day n age in a time when life is indeed dying

  • Woody Guthry was ridiculed and shunned by his home town. Now he is a national folk hero.

David is another shunned and ridiculed national folk Hero!!

Thanks david and please keep up the good work?

Dennis Kucinich for president for peace and justice in '08!

David puts more historical truth in one song than is in the average high school history book.

  • I couldn't agree more with what you said, nowellian,

as a high school senior taking AP us, its very true, and it doesn't change in AP/ college work..my book is written by the extremely prestigous Alan Brinkley ....and its hogwash..its very pro american without much regard for our victims. He uses a phrase of "welfare capitalism" to claim that corporate leaders in the 20s were taking care of their workers ..were taught the same narrow view in college as we are in elementary school.

  • However even though I agree with everything you say here...your name I disagree with.

Orwell was a good guy, he was actually a socialist, who disliked the tyranny of stalin. He actually wrote in a preamble to Animal farm that he believed things ran similarly in the west, just instead of keeping ppl under control through violence we do it through the golden shovel. the west whips its ppl through the media and its propoghanda. Its the asshole education system that exploit it as anti- socialist

  • you never saw the preamble bcuz it was suppressed. no one knew anything about it until 30 years after his death it was found in his journals.

  • i no you wrote this a month ago but wats 'the preamble'?

  • Monkeyrunky, when I decided on the name I was thinking no more Orwellian bs.

    I agree, I love Orwell's books.

Peace, and let's start a movement against Obama's wars in Afghanistan and Iraq!

    Peace.

  • OO, I got ya, yea thats a good idea I hate obama, and the war on terror doesn't become a ship somehow more acceptable with a change in captain. Let's also start of movement for a autonomous palestinian state with no Israeli settlements in it...lets also give south america and chavez right to run their countries without fear from America , as we have through our attempted coup of chavez in 2002.

  • True. This song has a good message and is also a good song, so what is the problem!?

  • Watch my clip= paulo brazil + Olinda(Não Vá Embora)" Don´t go away"

  • great song, love how David fits the true story and loads of facts into a short song - often learn more listening than reading a long article. ty Louise for this and other great vids. How any u.s. workers can still believe their govt gives a feck shows how strong their hegemony and brain-washing is.

  • Hi David,

I have a new family member one week ago! Alexa Paige... meanwhile, I've just begun working on your video from Winooski and Shelburne Vermont.

I'll upload Jenin next week sometime! So far, I've put up "Nothing's Changed For Me"...

I hope you're doing well. It is a pleasure to produce the video of the event for the Worker's Center in Vermont, and to promote your music!

Thank you for your hard work, stay real!

    Louise Michaels
