I'm the videographer - not the pilot. That said - the pilot did cut the throttle. Hitting throttle-hold on a 700-class nitro bird doesn't have the same effect as it does on, say, a comparatively tiny, lightweight 450-class e-powered bird. The rotating assembly on a 700-class heli can store a lot of kinetic energy. It takes a long time for it to spool down after cutting the power, and the heli was doing about 80 MPH when it hit the pole.

I'm the videographer - not the pilot. The pilot (Eric) was flying between the limbo poles on purpose. Unfortunately, his depth-perception was a bit off during that pass.

Thanks! Actually, the damage wasn't all that bad. He said it was maybe $250-worth of parts - blades, boom, torque tube, boom braces.

Thanks for the comments! I really got lucky with this clip. I had planned to fly that day, but I was having so much fun behind the camera that I kept on postponing my flights - otherwise, I wouldn't have had the tape rolling at the time. The pilot (Eric) shows as little, if any sentiment towards his aircraft. He flies aggressively, and when he crashes, he regards it as just a part of pushing the envelope.

The camera guy did a good job keeping up with the heli, it is so hard to keep the camera on these little heli's and he kept it in view the entire time. Really sucks about the heli, it is really something how these things almost eat themself when something goes wrong. Blades spinning at 2500 - 2600 rpm's it has a lot of torque.
