Avatar sucked! The only reason most of the people liked it is because it's made by James Cameron and it was 3D. Very stupid, simple and predictable plot. If James Cameron really worked on that plot for 14 years, then he must be a total idiot. And this totally can't be the best Sci Fi ever made. If you think it's the best, than you haven't seen The Matrix.
btw do you think cameron is going to donate any of his profits to natives or to poor peaople? I bet not a cent. he was just trying to ease people in to take as much as he could. that´s why he´ll make too sequals. not because he cares about nature but about money
what I hate about it the most it´s its lack of originality. nothing about the native american remarks you made. the movie could have been so much bettter. I get that it has superb visuals but that doesnt cut it. I hate that it just another holliwood stupid film filled with tricks and gizmos to keep you entertanied and not much substance btw pocahontas anyone? Jake Sully-John Smith. besides the charecters were too one dimensional the navi were too good and the human too bad for an advanced cultur
HA 'best film ever made',you must not have seen many films in your life time. This is no where close to 'the best film ever made'',films who deserve that title would be Seven Samurai,King Kong,Citzen Kane,Godfather and the list goes on.This is a average film with a story of Dances with Wolves and some above average effects. What matters to a film is the story not effects, effects are just there to inhance the experiance,Avatar is the most overated film ever made.
i watched good movies like: "The Shaw Shank Redemption" "Gladiator" "Watchmen" "American history X" "Lord of the Rings" "Blood Diamonds" "Slum dog millionaire" "Green Street Hooligans" "Nearly all disney films" ... i can keep going on And here u get the point; AVATAR FUCKING BEATS EM ALL !!! I never felt so excited for a movie like this, i like just wanted to go to pandora after this movie! And when i found out that the there was gonna be an AVATAR 2 i freak't out. Avatar ftw, (STFU haters)
Watch "Avatar: a poor analogy to human history" by dreicemoney. He gives a far, far better review than Williams. Williams, with his idealizing Native American, makes the very error that dreicemoney warned about in his review.
so i keep seeing people posting the Avatar is the number one movie of all time but i have a question do any of you know this for a fact or are you all just rambleing off what they said the comersals for it because through my resurch the movie is not number 1 it is number 14(not that that isnt impressive i am just saying) i only found t to be number one on one site but i do not trust this site because it also have happy feet and ice age 2 the melt down on it so if you not for sure let me not
but honestly its not my problem, avatards can go on and on about this but its simply not the best movie plain and simple. its a good movie..................but not the best.
i could go on but you (honestly) must be a complete loser or never seen movies before if you think its the best movie ever. IT WASNT EVEN GOOD. Worst political message ever, district 9 should help them out. The navi look stupid and fake, James Cameron isnt caring for you avatards sorry. I didnt hate it but i wasnt good, nothing made sense, logical was bullshit, and the flashy lights hypnotized all the emos to like the movie. People who have real taste in movie and not fx didnt care or hate it
@DarPower1 Yeah your very right,It's not and will never be the best film ever made.films who deserve that title would be Seven Samurai,King Kong,Citzen Kane,Godfather and the list goes on.This is a average film with a story of Dances with Wolves and some above average effects. What matters to a film is the story not effects, effects are just there to enhance the experiance,Avatar is the most overated film ever made.
Avatar pros and cons. Pros: "Good special effects (Though at times it was fake). Awesome main character development." Cons:" illogically geography for a movie trying to be realistic. (A waterfall from a floating island wtf......glowing skies...glowing plants that glow way to bright to be real..wtf.) Story was stupid, it was a political message packed as a dances with wolves movie and a scifi. Navi was stupid and they obviously were way perfect to be realistic. STupid names unobtainium pandora
James Cameron stated that Avatar had two goals: a grand adventure and to help us realize what were doing to the Earth. how our technological advancements have affected indigenous cultures throughout nature and how we are destroying the Earth with our technology and to not let that happen.
They did that with Pocahontas and Dances with wolves. It took 12 years and 500 million years to recreate those two movies in 3d with blue people. Seriously, not a good movie.
James Cameron got his message through and made it a lesson for us to learn. And it seems that he's the only one who recognizes who the humans are. He made it close to native americans on purpose. The planet that they lived on was developing as earth has and those are the weapons and clothing they came up with.
Thanks for the mention! Most people on the right see the movie as an affront to human nature. Not so, it is a critique of imperialism. The right wing has difficulty discerning human nature from imperialism, and that speaks volumes.
@wolfsyndrome...i am native american and you are TELLING me what is considered MY culture...avatar is a new age movie and was made to FAKE/COPY real native amerian culture...that was NOT an accurate protrayal of native culture....we do NOT worship nature...that movie is a NEW age lie...
It's just a movie! It was made to be interesting, not be a document or a lie. lol some people take thing to literal. BEST MOVIE EVER IS RIGHT. it is a lot like pocahontas though.
I didn't mean to be offensive...so the stuff I learned in school about Native American religion as it was during the 15th-17th centuries is inaccurate?
@WolfSyndrome i thank you for your polite question...yes native american culture in school was taught by WHITES who knew nothing of real native culture and mixed up tribes names and cultures...and just created a 1 size fits all "indian" history that is nothing like the real thing...for example i am native american...do you think i could make a movie about ENGLAND history?? no...because i AM NOT english and would just get it wrong
I agree with you NATIVEpridehope, I am a Pokomam Maya born in El Salvador raised in the U.S.A. This new age movement is taking big strides in the movie industry and corporate America. That we Mayans or Northern American Indians worshipped nature is unheard of. It is fact and science that all of creation is interconnected. People should read on the plant genome research. Now, here is another thing, that the original Americans got wiped out by Whites is an outright lie; we got done by diseases.
The religion practices you were taught about Indigenous cultures is a lie propagated by the church, state, and science. The rest is pretty much common sense.
I saw it at home from a download, not even in it's FULL BLOWN AWESOMENESS (is that even a word?) like you'd see in the theater, and I still say it kicks any other movie's ass! I laughed, I jumped, I got chills, I felt like a child again, heck I even shed a couple tears! I loved it.
it was more like the zulu's and the English in south africa xD lol ... they were tribal Africans lol....plus there actors were dark skinned... and they were fighting people with a disadvantage technically but sitll managed to win! :P i loved it .. i loved how they spoke to their deity and the graphics were awesome...
YES!! I must agree that this film was epic win. ^_^ I thoroughly enjoyed it and all the messages it held. And yes; the basic story has been done before. But instead of knocking it saying "oh it's boring I've seen it before!" like a bunch of jaded, snot-nosed film critics, let's try to enjoy it as a piece of film art and take the message it's trying to say with us, allright? Great review wolf, thanks. P.s. As someone who is part native american herself I especially found this film great. ;)
Yes, folks, it's unoriginal. But, humanity seems to keep doing the same sh!t, over and over. So, some things in our history are bound to repeat themselves.
Actually, the only thing I could compare Avatar's story to is the story of Pocahontas. But, why is that a bad thing?
To draw inspiration, or ideas is not a bad thing, but Avatar is a complete rip-off, not just a similar circumstance. Heck District 9 was the same basic kind of plot, but they did it in a truly new and unique way. Avatar just feels like borderline plagiarism to me. VERY GOOD plagiarism, but still plagiarism.
Sorry AX, I have to disagree with you in part on this one.
I agree that the primary focus of the film is a parallel with Native Americans, however my wife pointed out that the NA've are really a blend of various Native American AND African cultures.
That being said in Lee's defense, the "fight terror with terror" and "preemptive strike" lines were obvious references to the Bush administration.
I do think that this was the best PRODUCED film of all time, (although quite frankly there was nothing new here, just a lot of good CGI and 3D) however the fact that this story was completely unoriginal makes it lack in my opinion. Lets be real, if you have seen 'Dances with Wolves' and 'the Last Samurai' you have already seen this film... TWICE, just without the massive production value that this film does indeed offer.
Broken White officer in the military reluctantly goes to a strange and unfamiliar place as a advance contact in a larger plot to exploit the natives, after befriending and falling in love with a native female he decides to lead the natives in battle against the overwhelming forces of his own people.
Sound familiar? It should as it is the plot of 'Last Samurai,' 'Dances with Wolves' and 'Avatar.'
I can totally understand that. Had I not seen the other two films, I would have thought Avatar to be a truly great film. As it stands I highly recommend this film to all my friends, I am just really disappointed that they could not come up with a story with some original content. I would suggest you check out 'the Last Samurai' sometime and compare.
After watching the movie for the second time I heard the lines you and Lee Doren are talking about...so now I have to agree with you on disagreeing with me. xP
You can admit when you are wrong... that is a sign of real character WS. I know that I have been fairly harsh on this film, but let me state again for the record... this is the best produced film I have ever seen. While the 'borrowed' plot and the Bush lines detracted from the film a little, by no means would I say that this was a bad movie.
