Sweet vid jimbojones gutsy effort. Our family car is a 105 and wanna trick it up, what suspension setup were u running here, and what tyre size? Sway bars? Any info appreciated cheers!
I also own an 2000 model GXL 105, 8 seater, also solid live axle, auto, centre diff, LSD rear, standard factory 1 HZ 4.2 non turbo diesel, lift gate (opposite to barn doors).
According to my information direct from Toyota, 105 series did not come out in IFS, only the 100 series.
@jimbojones1978 G'day Jimbo, Top vid, I have the same model, do you still have it & what mods have you done, any & all info would be welcome, positive points & the not so positive, types of brands for various components etc etc, thanks mate cheers.
Good driving, awesome truck, very good suspension travel. To help with the model designation number conversation below...
The 105 series was for all base spec 1998 to 2008 landcruisers. (100 series)
100 series was for all other specs, RV, GXL, GXV, (Sahara later models) early models with beam axle front and rear until 2001 where V8 petrol and 1HDT-FTE (turbo diesel) were IFS, but even in this if you ordered a GXL in this period with the base 1HZ nat. asp diesel, it had beam axles front and rear
@rigged100 in the uk you could get an 100 with ifs and fte engine in 1998, though if you asked the toyota dealer nicely, you could get a rigid axle option insted
@pupleon oh, ok, I wish they had that here, the IFS is terrible on the harsh roads in OZ, that would have made a wild touring vehicle!! There is a crowd here who do conversions from IFS to beam axle and another who convert 1HZ to the 1hdt-fte, worth it for the offroad strength and for the more powerful, more economical engine!
The later 105s started using IFS too. I love the first gen 105s, they're the ultimate landcruiser, apart from an 80 series VX-Limited with leather and all the bells and whistles.
Don't listen to this twit above, there is no reason to get nasty just because we are behind our " keyboard brick wall". However, now you know, 105 = Solid axle. 100 = IFS.
@miknofx wrong knob ryder.... 1998 to 2001 were all solid axles even GXL trim... only V8 GXV was IFS... 105 denotes base spec ie. barn doors, skinny wheels, vinyl floors, early ones had 3 seating in the front!
lucky aussies and south africans get the 105 (HZJ? HDJ?) Land Cruiser. Comes with OEM solid axles front and rear, 4.2 turbo diesel engine and manual transmission. Perfection.
SHIT!!!!! lucky basterds, LC's in the US all come with IFS and if we want a solid axle up front we have to make our own, they don't even make SAS kits for the LC most LC in the US are usually just luxury daily drivers except mine which i take wheeling everywheekend
Fuk Jim, you got some big balls mate, I dnt usually watch youtube clips and cringe but you had me going more then ones. Awesome vid mate, no need for editting or music, just the real stuff, love it!

105 series cruisers were solid axle, however anthing with IFS is deemed 100. eg UZJ-100 or HDJ-100
minimog4x4 2 years ago
But as I'm aware, they did keep the 105 designation even with the IFS. I think it was used to denote the trim level, as it is with the 60 series.

wrong, deepthroater. 100=IFS 105=Solid.

I concede, Sir Bumlicker.

@rigged100 Your still wrong. you can get GXL 105. The one in the video is dickface.
105 means solid axle. 100 is IFS. Argue all you want, that is fact. ring Toyota and ask cum guzzler.

The 105 in australia did not come with a turbo. It was naturally aspirated.
It had live axles but no turbo.
The GXL 100 and above models had the same diesel or a turbo diesel.
Africa does not get the D4D engines either as they have poor diesel fuel standards so cannot sell the D4D toyota's
