I don't know much about ballet but after watching every Corsaire possible on youtube, I can say the way he arches his hands is very particular, quite beautiful.
WOW! her fouettes were almost flawless, and the pointe shoes werent as supportive and strong as they are today, and her feet arent super archy! Shes amazing! And his jumps were phenomenal!
God, stop showing Vasiliev jumping from one direction, and then another! Edits aren't /that/ amazing so as to look as if he's really jumping from both sides both times.
Yes, we get it, he's got amazing jumps.
Other than the edits, though, it's beautiful. Thank you.
I think in today's ballet world, for the most part, there is just something missing that the greats had back in those days. I also think that you don't have to be anorexic thin to make the ballet beautiful either...not that I am for a chunky ballerina, who is? But my point is that what these dancers were "lacking" in strength, they make up for in their artistry, much of which has been lost in today's dance world...Thanks for posting! Beautiful!
@pediatrapaola Oh my God!!!!! Volodia is the best ....phenomenal ...It is the most incredibale Corsaire I have seen and I watched many!!!!!! Bothe of them are incredibale and I agree with you again and again V olodia is Volodia !
Thank you so much Ilya, for this priceless excerpt. May I ask please which VHS or DVD this comes from? Mme. Timofeyeva is unbelievable, I wanna collect everything available on her.
The editing here is horrible with the instant replay jetés. Just let the dancing speak for itself without this horrible manipulation for effect. Shame that the raw footage probably existed at some point and could have been properly edited.
Strange that she dances Gamzatti's solo from "Bayadere" here with different steps in places.
BTW: Glasshands et al. the technique on display here is pretty impressive for then and even more impressive now. Weird old ballet indeed!
WOW!!! Talk about unleashed power and perfect Russian technique combined. Like in a duel of titans, Timofeyeva and Vasiliev at their bravura best are just unbeatable. This is superb.
who's the girl? best fouettes ever!

They are both extraordinary, and such strong technique, but I still prefer Fonteyn's lightness and effortless elegance.
