Comparisons aren't good comparisons because of the differences in climate one valley to the other and land prices as in rent. Fresno also includes all ag production where SV only shows row crops values.

I know where the water is pumped from. Salmon and smelt go to the ocean and then return to the river to spawn. So they do pass through the delta. And yes water levels do drop in the river when water is pumped through. And how is there enough water for everyone? If there was we wouldn't have a crisis now would we? And if we put a pipeline out to the ocean, the sewage would still make its way back to the shore and into the delta. And how would we pay for that pipeline? More taxes!

Nobody will die if pumping is reduced, most of the water goes to subsidized farming of cotton and rice that is not even eaten by CA residents but is exported. If pumping continues at the rate it does then the delta will become too saline to support its current species AND the water will be no good for human use either.

I know how to take care of this problem if all else fails to work. Someone should get some cash together and not a use a credit card, and go out and buy a bunch of Pirahna Fish and release them into the water supply, and let them eat those damn little fish once and for all. Delta smelt are preyed upon by larger fish, especially striped bass and largemouth bass which are invasive species in the Sacramento Delta.
Maybe Fish and Game department should poison the invasive species and give that Delta smelt a chance to survive instead of causing so much mayhem in the Central Valley, California and America's food supply.

I was actually agreeing with ya. You can look it up in the Fresno County Ag report 2008 as in total ag-production revenue $5.6 billion vs Monterey county 2008 $3.6 billiion @236k acreage( this may include crop rotations, 2-3 different crops in the same field.)
Comparisons aren't good comparisons because of the differences in climate one valley to the other and land prices as in rent. Fresno also includes all ag production where SV only shows row crops values.

problems with fish in the delta are because delta cities dump 300 million gallons of sewer water daily on it. that would be the only area you could even claim could be impacted by the farm water.

I know where the water is pumped from. Salmon and smelt go to the ocean and then return to the river to spawn. So they do pass through the delta. And yes water levels do drop in the river when water is pumped through. And how is there enough water for everyone? If there was we wouldn't have a crisis now would we? And if we put a pipeline out to the ocean, the sewage would still make its way back to the shore and into the delta. And how would we pay for that pipeline? More taxes!

For example, Mendota may have 41% unemployment; however it started the drought with over 30% unemployment. The salmon fishing industry has lost many jobs along the California and Oregon coasts; it fails to address that fact. Also, salmon is a primary food source of orcas. Moreover, it does not disclose that Rodriguez owns a farm.

Hearing it again, I see your point. I had interpreted that as a more general comment. However, Rodriguez's farm is in Yuma, AZ according to a May 17 article in the local paper there - yumasun(.)com If so, his statement is a bit disingenuous in that he asserts he farms in the San Joaquin when he does not. That is, unless he really does farm in both locations.
