I did a little internet research. The Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) is headed by Amory Lovins who John mentioned in this video. In the RMI newsletter for summer 1997, there is an article about the meeting at the Grand Wailea resort in April of 1997. The meeting was for Interface Inc who is a leader in sustainability, and John also talked about sustainability in the video. The newsletter includes a reference to Interface's CEO working with Amory Lovins on sustainability.
WOW!! Johnny Denver never cease to Amaze ME .... I noticed the date April 10 is my friends birthday who LOVES Johnny and the Oceans too!:0) The creative process he was working on Blue Water World made meLAUGH!! I like to write on Johnny... So I'm familiar with the struggles to come up a section of a story and to borrow a line Johnny has siad Insiperastion and Imaigination has been my true friend. Fitting message that his last song would be on Nature truestes and best friend that is his TRUE mes
Thank-you for loving John Denver's memories enough to help him & his family to share all of John's songs of love for our world & nature. To save, care for all nature & animals in this blue water world. Beautiful may we keep it. ~~Ava~~
Thanks so much for sharing this with us. It's such a precious gift to be allowed to hear John tell in his own words how a song came about. It's amazing to me how he could stuggle so with the words and , then when put to the test, come up with just what the song needed. Oh, what songs we must have missed from John these past 12 years!
I think it is wonderful that you take the time to share your clips with all of us...the speaking part is such a treasure...without you, and folks like you, these clips would not be shared...thank you so much
I loved hearing him speak the words. His is ultimately a great poet of our time. Artists and performers would do their music much more justice speaking the words to appreciate their beautiful poetry. Thank you for sharing this clip with us.
I pray , someday some of these songs, no matter how "rough or raw" will be released on a CD so i can play it LOUD & PROUD! god i miss him! PEACE EVERYONE : )
Michael, I don't know where this was taken, but it looked like it was possibly mid-1990's. Where in the world did you find this video? What a find. Thanks for sharing. Great....I enjoyed it very much!!!!
I believe that this clip dates from 1997. I think a shorter version, just the song and minus the intro was on YouTube some time ago. There was also a slightly later version with different lyrics - as JD said, it was a work in progress - where he spoke about the recent death of Jacques Cousteau.
Some where else on you tube it said that this was in Hawaii I think April 1997. These were the first set of lyrics and later he slightly changed them.

Also, I found an article about the six day conference and sustainability, mentioning that 1100 Interface employees attended.
