  • This is SOOOOO Good..... Thanks for posting this delightful video.

  • I was listen in the movie "The green line"

  • this is my favort version.

  • There was a low-budget horror movie in the 1980s - "The Lady in White", maybe - that used Bing Crosby's version of this song repeatedly. The plot was that the murderer had liked this song and had played it a lot, or something like that. The song was the best part of the film. When it ended, I was compelled to sing: "Did you ever see a cheesy movie? / Well, I did."

  • My favorate stuff I like are stuff from the Early 1900, Beautiful Tune!

  • True americana! very retro... phycodelic! So simple, yet so defined!

    Beautiful!

  • i like henry hall's songs and he's quite handsom

  • He believe your right of course. My late mother had an extension speaker in the kitchen of our London home. it was her highlight of the day! To give the BBC their due, they certainly broadcast a great deal of high quality light and popular music of the period.

Henry Hall was certainly one of the best. J.

  • Great video! Great music! BBC National programme 5.15pm.'Good evening everybody, Henry Hall speaking'.

  • I think you will find that what he said was ' Good evening everybody this is Henry Hall speaking' with heavy emphasis on 'this is' - but I can't remember why!

  • SirLeeOldgit,

Yes, he did stress that and if you recall, he also said "This is H....enry H....all speaking" drawing out both of the aitches. A really good band as were most of them, if they were not they would not have been contracted. Unlike today when I can't tell the difference between one screeching mob and an other.

  • there was a false report of his death, thats why he emphasised the Is. sorry i took so long to see your question (:--(

  • where did you get all of these great records? would love to find a place to buy them!

  • Outrageous version of this great tune - Thanks Sam!

  • I uploaded this but its the Jack Payne version i have loved since being a kid, when i had the 78 and it got broken. This is good but its always the Payne one for me!!

  • @mic33george thank you for uploading this this song you to terrify me from Lady in white

  • As a sheet music collector I thought this was particularly nice! Cute tune as well!

  • Thanx for Movie The Green Mile and for that song its wonderful and Perfect

  • My Grandad played trombone for Henry Hall and the BBC dance orchestra. His name was Allen Massey. My Mum still has (I hope!) his reference letter signed by HH from when he moved to another orchestra.

  • Lovely as always, thanks!

  • This song is absolutely prescious!

    Thanks for sharing.

  • Thats nice but I'm sure I have heard a recording with Denny Denis and Ambrose or Roy Fox (CRAFT!)

  • Even though I was a teen in the 1980's and pogo-ed to New Wave music, I always loved listening to crooning types songs and old ballads. Thanks for posting :)

  • Been meaning to reply for ages, how interesting, what was his name and did he play with any other bands? There are various other Henry Hall 78s on here from this period, and also news reel clips that may have him on!

  • bill mulraney was his name.He was with HH for about 3 yrs.He was with HH in the film "Music

hah charms"bafore HH he did the famous Spike Hughs' series of Jazz recordings. He played for various other top bands and died in 1965

  • Hi there, I hope you don't mind me contacting you, I am interested in any information you may have about Bill.

I am enquiring about him as he is included in my family tree as I am also a Mulraney.

I would be grateful of any help you could offer me and thank you for taking the time to read this message.

    Thanks again

    Donna

  • yes and let me know if I am wrong:)

  • fantastic thanks so much!!!!!

  • This song is also in a Film called The Lady In White, not sure who sings that one

  • i think the version from The Lady In White is sung by Bing Crosby.

  • Thank you liquiddmonds i wil check that out!

  • look at all those lovely music sheets! I've never heard this version before.

  • Wonderful music, great video! I first heard Bing Crosby sing this.

  • I bet that is GREAT!I love him my favourite being his version of "shadow waltz"-beautiful.One of the top Crosby experts an irish man lives just around the corner from me!

  • @mic33george I first heard this song in a "Popeye" cartoon. Olive Oyl is sleep-walking way up high in a construction site while this song plays in the background. I remember my late mother telling me the name of the song, as well as her liking that they'd use it for background music for "Olive."

  • Fantastic to see all the sheet music! Moreover this is really a top version, thank you!!!

  • GREAT Video, al the sheet music!! Ive got My darling on record. Thank you for everthing!!!

  • Do you know i love that song!I would love to hear the Henry Hall version. When you get your gram you will have to have a go at an upload??

  • This optimistic tune is known to me from the Ray Noble record (which I think I mentioned). Sheet and papers on Henry Hall I see for the first time.

    Impressed.

  • Perhaps the best version ever recorded, certainly the one I first heard.

  • I love this but the Jack Payne one is my favourite as i had it when very young and its such a great performance. This is a very close second.

  • If I hear the Jack Payne version, my view could alter somewhat!!

  • This was recorded 12th December 1933,and the vocalist is Les Allen.
