tried this, everything seems to work perfectly. until I tried booting to it. just got "A disk read error has occurred Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart" ........... the computer im using has issues with its motherboard. it refuses to see its wireless card and dvd drive so this is the only way to install windows. bout to try booting to the windows install on my netbook see if I get the same error....yep get the same error

I have a Dell Windows 7 OS Reinstallation Disk. I recently formatted my Asus laptop, and I would like to use the Dell Disk on the Asus computer, but it does say, "Use this DVD only to reinstall the operating system on a Dell PC". Although they don't want me to, is it still possible? The old Dell is broken so I wouldn't be completely illegal, because I'd be running it on only 1 computer. So, the main question is, would it let me install it, or would it detect that it is not a Dell and abort?

@bombocladmann No it is not possible, Your Asus laptop came with an hidden partition with an clean installation of your previous Windows version. Only the Asus recovery disk can acces these files. Maybe you can find the recovery files in the Asus website, burn that on a disk. Then try recoverying it with that new disk.

@rutger12223 that is a good idea, but I actually decided to try insthalling the disk without formatting my hard drive first, and it worked perfectly even though the disk was a Dell and the computer is Asus. But I really like the idea of going on their site to do that; I had to do that to get the wireless drivers for Asus because they were deleted during the installation, so i know that sort of thing works. I've followed the directions exactly, and can't get it to work on my system. After I got to the bios menu & tell it to load off USB, I get the flashing cursor, w/ "Disk error, press any key to continue", then it tries to load, and blue screen crashes.

all you need to do is download the file

and paste it into your 4gb clean USB.

then you can use it on upgrading or
