the reason why people want to go back to those times is that today: you go to a night club and there are a lot of drunk people all over the place, some weird DJ-mixed-crap-thing is blasting your ears, some ''girls'' are vomiting over each other, people are fighting like dogs in the streets and so on...there is no value to anything today so we are lost people in search for a better atmosphere, music, people and life, those were the days....
MAS BIEN VAMOS PARA ATRAS......EN CUANTO AL INTELECTO.....Y EL ARTE.....Y COMO LOS ROBOTS HACIA ADELANTE.......NO TE JODE?NO ENTIENDO NI PAJORERA IDEA DE NADA DE LO QUE OCURRE ......MENOS MAL QUE SE SOÑAR........COMO TODOS LOS HABITANTES DEL PLANETA EN TODA LA HISTORIA DEL HOMBRE DESDE QUE SALIO DE LAS CUEVAS
ESA EPOCA SI QUE TENIA MAGIA.........Y NO ESTA DE MIERDA...............VAYA UNA SOCIEDAD MAS CUTRE TENEMOS..........MAS ESTUPIDOS NO PODEMOS SER.......EN UNA EPOCA EN QUE LO ULTIMO QU EPODRIAMOS SER ES ESTUPIDOS DESPUES DE TODO LO QUE HEMOS PASADO EN EL JODIDO SIGLO XX
@oOfretlessOo I can sure agree with you, although remember that even in those days they were watching Stalin in power in Russia and Hitler coming to power in Germany. Our days look equally dismal, hopefully we have some great music rise to the fore above the garbage that is typically offered.
Notice the trombonist at 1m10 to 1m12 - he eschews the 'traditional' method of playing and has the slider on the floor while moving his entire body up and down ... fabulous !!
First silent clip is the picadilly hotel, second silent clip is unknown hotel, third silent clip is kit kat club. The bandleader is not ray starita(he did not play at picadilly,it's not al starita either who did)The sound film is the picadilly hotel(sydney Kyte bandleader)during this clip a live record was being recorded for sale to the dancers. The purpose of these clips put together was to show how, extravagent saturday nights in london hotels were.
Which band is playing 'All of Me'? Is it Jack Hylton? Just before 'All if Me' starts there is a shot of Maurice Winnick's Picadilly Hotel Band (with the top hats) but they were not playing 'All of Me', I've seen that video and they were playing 'Something simple'
Could be, it would be great to track down a recording of it on CD or LP, it's a great tempo for that song, most versions I've heard are slow and languid, thanks
One of the best things on here recently!!All those clips with GREAT early 30s songs,people,bands-excellant!I second the above aswell,as its all i listen to!
I am pretty certain the first clip is The Ambassadors Club Band, with Ray Starita on sax. 'Kiss by Kiss', Christopher Stone, with POSSIBLY, Sydney Kyte and his Piccadilly Hotel Band with The Three Ginx. I Could be WRONG though!
From the excellent sound quality, my guess is that it was filmed between early 1929 and and 1931. Note that is's likely an HMV recording session! I'd would nice to know the names of the bands, but Jack Hylton is named. This is remarkable---thanks for posting it! It's practicically the only era of music I listen to, anymore!
I know some of the 'turns'. Christopher Stone introduces the 'recordmaking'(possibly for DECCA records). The Western Brothers at the piano, Leslie Holmes singing 'He played his Ukulele as the ship went down' which is 1932. Not sure on bands! (yet)!.
I just went nightclub hopping in London in the 20's...several venues....lots of music...lots of acts...all in 7 minutes....and during it all, gurgled Pabst Blue Ribbon....The best music era ever and the best beer....It was heaven!
what kind of dancing is this? is there a name for it? for the one at the beginning specifaclly.....

They were part of a cabaret act and were dancing a routine from a play or musical, but it looks like a Charleston dance.

I think it is Roy Fox & His Band. One of his saxophone players is still alive at the ripe old age of 103
