I appreciate your comments. Be sure to look out for a new book about the fighting men of the Black Watch who have described one of their most dramatic tours of Afghanistan for a book – written in tribute to six comrades who lost their lives on the 2009 mission.
AVIATION ASSAULT BATTLE GROUP, details the blood, sweat, tears and heartbreak of the battalion as they smash Taliban drug and bomb-making fortresses on the frontline during their 2009 tour of Afghanistan.
Even if I were a German tucked into a panzer on the hills of North Africa, and I heard those pipes in the distance, I would have crapped my pants. Yours is a mighty and ferocious history--the Black Watch, and Scotland--never let it die. God Bless from the USA.
As an Englishman (northern) this is astonishing. You fellas are bound by the pipes and a very, very tight national identity. Not so over the border. Good luck to you Scots and crack on!
@transonicbuoy1 I love England and English culture, however you can blame multiculturalism that has effectively quashed the English identity and national psyche.
@cloneoffred Must admit, we were living in Kelty at the time & were shopping in Dunfermline on that day, the only reason we knew it was on by seeing people queuing at the side of the High Street as we came out of the Kingsgate & asking what was happening!
@cloneoffred Perhaps the dismal weather kept many at home. Nevertheless, please know how much we in the USA respect the Black Watch and all the legendary regiments of Scotland, past and present. My uncle once fought in Korea alongside a Highland regiment that played the pipes as they went into battle. The story goes that the Chinese were most unnerved at the sound of the pipes. Scotland forever!
These men are oke! That litle black pony make it oke!!!

Another parade where I bet half the townsfolk never knew it was on.
These events should be public holidays in the particular town
God Bless our lads and lassies in the forces
