I just cannot understand how there is all this great live footage of great bands like The Who, Zeppelin, Hendrix, Beatles, etc and no one thought to follow Van Halen during their prime and get some really great professional footage of their live performances. Great post, One of my favorites. I had the cassette from a friend in 1980 at the ripe age of 10. If I was just few years older I would have loved to have seen them. I eventually saw all the line ups but this must have been great seeing this live. I am so grateful for the audio and the video! Thanks!

I saw them when i was 15 years old in Wichita Falls, TX. First concert ever. Auditorium was great. 2000 seats. Thats right! 2000. There is no bad seat in this Auditorium since it is a smaller city. It was a GREAT concert!!!! Surreal!. I was so stupid did not know what an encore was so we left after it was over. Probably missed 3 songs.

Yes, Eddie wrote EVERY SONG. David Lee wrote the lyrics. But, Ed is the man that came up with the music for those DLR lyrics. This is a fact man. Come on. The ONLY song that Eddie didn't write were the cover tunes. And, there is also "Respect the wind" that Eddie and Alex wrote together. Alex actually wrote (and I believe PLAYED the keyboards on!) this song which is on the "Twister" soundtrack. Ed played the guitar. Al on keyboard. Weird but true ( I think)

Ted Nugent and Black Sabbath got really pissed at Van Halen in the 70's because VH kept upstaging them as the upstart opening act on their tours. When you watch these videos, you can clearly see why...Van Halen was like a ferocious nuclear bomb exploding onstage...pure unbridled rock fury at it's finest. I would have dreaded having to follow Van Halen's set back in the day....talk about a huge letdown for the audience...kinda like a girl shitting in the bed right after the best sex you ever had!

I am so surprised they don't put out stuff from this era officialy. None of em need the money but it would sell BIG TIME. I saw em blow sabbath away in 78- first tour- Manchester. Then headline in 79 and 80. The best live band ever? (post zeppelin.) I think so. Seen em all from back then- DC, Rainbow, Scorps, Priest, Motorhead, Whitesnake, Lizzy... the list goes on. But in terms of a show, nothing came close to classic VH. Just a shame they've wasted the last 20 years bickering. Shame.

Wow, You've seen 'em all. I've been to a number of shows over thirty years, but always felt Van Halen was the supreme arena showband of my generation. Saw them live back in just about '79. And just earlier this month in Portland. It was 'effen awesome to hear them kick out those old jams from back then. You must find a way to see them. They are ON FIRE this tour., but not playing this song :(

This song is and always has been an absolute bitch for them to do live. The guitar solo was double tracked on the album, and the harmonies are almost impossible to hit on pitch at the frequency they are repeated. Anthony could make a pretty good stab at it live - but Wolfie? Yikes. I know a lot of the backing vocals are on tape this tour, but that would be really obvious, they're so much a part of the song,lip synching would look stupid.

this is one of my top 3 fave VH songs, and i was bummed that they didn't do it on the leg of the most recent tour- i saw them in Indy back in sept 2007. i agree that wolfie may have had a hard time with it, but overall i think he did an ok job with his dad, uncle & DLR at the show.
