  • without doubt the best thing that has and still remains to have come out of the BBC. only fools and horses is good but you can clearly see the writer of that stole stories and characters from steptoe. nice upload, thx.

  • Poor Hercuwaaaaaa

  • This is great, thanks for posting!

The audio of the rest of this sketch is on the website of the official steptoe and son appreciation society (under "society audio media")

  • In a retrospective hindsight, the 60's episodes were like dramatic pathos with humour thrown in. The 70's colour episodes more broad with jokes being chased, .rather than the poignant iinteraction between father and son. Nevertheless it was still a bloody good series. I discovered it more on DVD... Therefore it''s just a shame that Youtube reveals the extra's that would've been greatly appreciated on the BBC DVD boxset!

  • This pub looks like the eight bells on Fulham high street

  • @punditpete Think they did lot of location shooting around those sort of area's, cos it was all filmed at BBC Shephards Bush, which isn't million miles from Fulham, so wouldn't be surprised.

  • haha funny looking old breathaliser bags!

  • It still strikes me how much more respectful and polite British police are compared to American officers..especially nowadays.

  • @Babyhowdy233 Ah, the jump out of the weeds dig on America. Nice.

  • So is this just a short sketch from a christmas with the stars show?

  • This is from "Christmas Night With The Stars" 25/12/67. It's all that is left of the Steptoe bit of that show. After this film insert, the rest of the sketch carried on in the studio but this material is lost.

  • I should think it is virtually the only part of Steptoe that is lost. Unlike a lot of series from the sixties and seventies, all Steptoe episodes survive although the original colur episodes only exist in black-and-white. Perhaps these could be 'recolourised' using the 'chroma-dot' technique?

  • It is impossible to recolourise the b/w seventies Steptoes by decoding the chroma - the tapes have (far) too narrow a bandwidth.

  • Oh. Thanks for informing me.

  • But there was never an episode called 'Xmas night 1967',was it a public information film?

  • You are correct. There wasn't an episode called "Xmas night 1967". There was a show called "Christmas Night With The Stars" though. I'm sure if you Google that, all will be revealed...

  • This is unique i have every episode and films and this is not in any,and the films were colour!.

  • I do wish people would read the video description! It clearly tells you where this short insert is from there!

  • Which episode is this from????

  • have not saw this one thank you
