  • go get some fish dude!!, theres a whole lake next to you,,,,,

  • This is sad

  • 節子が弱りきっているのに、可哀想

  • Seita's aunt is such a feeler!! Seita would never apologize to her!! She must be the one to do that!!!

  • That would just kill me to go back to my starving little sister with no food...it would literally break my heart...I feel so sorry for Seita and Setsuko and the fact that they starve to death.

  • 節子はただセイタについてっただけだから犠牲者だわ

  • 節子が死にかけてるの薄々気づいてるのに、自分の子さえ助かればいいのか、、。飢えてるだけじゃなく死にかけてるのに。

  • dont care what anyone says that aunt woman was such a bitch.

  • AWWWWWWW!!!!!!!!! Its so sad!! Im crying!!! I know how this felt!! No one wants this kind of WAR!!!!

  • hahaha i knew recognized those intense expressions from that officer, he plays the vice principle from Gokusen I believe? XD

  • wooooow seita is really strong ..... at this rate if something like that were happening ill be dead already........... dammn this fucking country has made alot of bad things..... this is really touching gooooooood im crying im so cyiing........ i dont wish this bad to happened to no body..... none

  • how do you get caught stealing during a bombing raid... you must be trying to get caught

  • I can't blame Seita. I can't. He's only 14 years old, I would have had no idea what to do in that situation when I was his age. Hell, I would have trouble now, five years later. Everyone in this movie is a victim, the aunt too.

  • what a ohajiki that thing the lil girl eat

  • DAMN IT he was about to tell her about his little sister. :( Interrupter!

  • what's a ohajiki?

  • @mjmegafan223 It's a game that consists of small marbles like the one setsuko had in her mouth int he movie.

  • @mjmegafan223

a marble thats used to play with

  • @mjmegafan223 marble

  • Too many people are unfairly harsh on the Aunt, people cant understand the sheer level of hunger and fear that these people endured. She had a cold hard choice between ensuring her own children had food and whether she could care for the children of her brother too.

  • Perhaps the naval captain's son wouldn't have to steal if his aunt wasn't such a cow!

  • but seita is too prideful... yes he is the naval's captain, but if the aunt was keeping him, she has to find food for him since he doesnt work to get his ration of food

the aunt already has FOUR children and herself to look after... and her son is always sick too... for us its easy to say just take them in... but if u ere in her position, who will u care for first? 2 homeless children or your own four children?

  • and it isn't the aunt's responsibily to take care of them, why doesn't the other ppl help? like the officer? why can't he contribute?

  • this is in many ways different from the besides it being live action like with the cop

  • 「これが戦争よ」 か

  • War really produces few heroes. IMO, Setsuko is among them, or rather, those like her.

  • 兄ちゃんがいちばんツライ 兄ちゃんがいちばん泣きたい

  • OMG this is so sad T.T setsuko is so innocent

  • that officer made some funny faces

  • T^T ugh I thought the anime was bad but the drama on this is up 10 ahhhh sooooo saaad!! DX

  • this makes me feel for the kids in iraq i bet stuff like that din't get reported

  • wow i forgot that Seita is still just a kid. its easy to blame him for his pride but i cant say much coz i would probably breakdown a while ago if i was him.

  • @renogwapo exactly, I mean when I was 14 I was still like a kid...I don't think I could have handled a situation like this by myself. And Seita is experiencing incredible pain in his heart too..both of his parents are dead and he still needs to act strong in front of his sister > <

  • Aw man ... hang on while I go get a few more cases of kleenex ... 6:40

  • Seita talks all mature and such, but when he cries he sounds so heartbroken... it's so sad...

  • seita's stealing skills totally sucks -.- he keeps on getting caught.

  • so true: ''This is war, this is what war means'' 4:15-4:25

  • this is so sad im crying right now

  • if apologies were enough we wouldn't nee the police. heheh my firend said that to me a while ago.

  • its sad to say, that even though we've had two world wars, were on track for another one right around the corner... and no doubt when it hits, its going to be long and a lot like this... unfortunately, we cannot escape the past, and whats also going to happen in the future

  • who the hell are those kids (in the credits)?

  • Seita's pride really makes him come up with the WORST kinds of decisions.

  • what seita could do was helping them farm or whatever he could do. protecting setsuko isnt a good excuse for not doing anything productive. that way he could have stayed with his aunt. seita's too much pride and not surrendering represents the attitude japan kept at this time. he ended up in a misery anyway. almost eveyone realised it was stupid of japan sacrificing the innocent for its stupid pride. my grandma did too, looking back. this kinda shit should never be repeated again.

  • shiet Seita if you're gonna steal don't get caught that's the number one rule

  • the bond between seita and setsuko is amazing... this part is touching yet reality is cruel...

  • its sad that they died but dnt u think its sort of seita's fault he has wayy 2 much pride and he listens 2 his father wayy 2 much and his aunt i think by punishing seita alone is fine but why setsuko she didn do anything bad till mayb later bcuz of the rice and thing but thats it

  • the best brother and sister paring ever

    seita and setsuko.

well im making a manga with the best brother and sister paring as well.

  • idiot .

  • he should have leaft setsuko with the aunt i mean did he really think he could take care of her by himself

  • Dude! this is war, the aunt had 4 mouths to feed, do you think she would have stop feeding her children to feed setsuko? Setsuko became Seita's responsibility since the day their mother passed away. It's sad but is the truth.

  • why the fuck didn't he buy a fishing pole with the money he had wasted on the stove. he could have dug for the worms and iam sure that pond has fish ive seen smaller ones the carry hundreds

  • Because, if you recall, at the time they bought the stove, they were still living with their aunt. They did not forsee having to live out in the woods on their own.

  • lol good idea but yeah he didn't think he would end up living outdoors.

  • you would do much worse thing if you were in the same situation.

  • wtf????

  • 6.51 brought me to tears.

  • aww the girls so sweet

  • omg i keep crying, the ppor girl, omg,

  • im sobbing like a baby this live action is sooo gd like the anime....i cnt stop crying

  • I love this film (both live action and animated). Thanks for posting it.

This message is to everyone who has left a comment here: Learn to type! I've never seen such bad grammar and spelling. I don't even know what half of you are saying.

  • Setsuko had little strength inside her to when she thought she was eating fruit drops, and when Seita thought they were marbles, she fell into his lap.

  • even if he gets ajob he wont get enought food his sister is sick she got dierea and shes sick and they need food each day to make her good + he will get infections of those hits he got + if they go to the aunt they still wont get any food

  • This is something else that changed, in the anime, the aunt doesn't come to get Seita after he's been arrested, and the officer shows him pity, here, the officer is a bastard.

  • wait ther. the aunt dusnt want him ther. dun b so biased becus shes pretty. seita wud do nethin to save setsuko but as u c, the aunt dusnt rely giv a shit. its not like shes pleading him to com bak. shes driving him away actuali.

  • I agree with you! He really needs to swallow his pride, and realize, that even if he is the son of a Navel officer, it won't change the situation. He's being foolish acting this way. At least if he went back with his aunt, and got a job, he could bring in a little bit more food.

While everyone believes that the aunt is a horrible demon, I must disagree. She understands what war is, and she's doing the best she can to keep her children alive. I wished that Seita-kun would just suck it up...

  • He should've done it to at least take care of his sister... that's what I would've done. I would've sacrified everything I had to keep my sister alive and fed - but Seita is being so stubborn... he doesn't realize that he's not protecting his siter this way...

BUT... Seita-kun is a child himself... it's so sad... he shouldn't have to have this responsibility... I just want to cry with him...

  • The Aunt already said she won't give them any food. What's the point of them going back if she's not going to feed them? We don't even know if she'd give them shelter.

To say the least, the Aunt is the most realistic one though. She did what she had to do for her kids, the way she talked to Seita though was mean. Which she acknowledge but did anyway.

  • i find it amazing how everyone knows that this kid is a naval captain's son. but then again they all do live on a big island. the record keeping would be immaculate for anyone that lived on such a small area.

though the cop was nice enough to try and readon with both the aunt and seita.

  • the more i watch this, the more i want to stop. sometimes, i feel as though i can't take any more of their sadness. but im gonna keep goin til i finish the movie...definately...

  • This is so SAD!! T_T

  • Setsuko is dying...;_________;

  • duh

  • that poor beautiful little girl aww hold on in their sweetheart

  • Every scene makes me want to cry. ;-;

  • This is to teach people the war is such a horid thing

  • o the humanity.......

  • "This is what War means".

Aptly put. It's not all violence and death - it's what goes on just beneath . . .

  • Oh man, I'm a blubbering mess after this.

  • ;_; I started sniffing when Setsuko gave him a hug.

  • Yes, Setsuko and Seita are easy to feel bad for.

  • i feel so sorry for setsuko and se chan theyre only trying to survive
