Great way to avoid a superior striker, BJJ. Lloyd did take several rabbit puches to the face in the first takedown attempt, but no real danger. In a street fight, eye poking, ball smashing and biting pretty much eliminates the grapple game, however. I love to see a submission, but a lot of these grappling fights are pretty dull to a spectator, even though it is very skilled. It methodical nature makes for a very predictable chain of events...take down-pass guard-mount-submit. Watch Akiyama!
awesome video. I thought it was Royce in their for a minute!!! :)
it looked like his opponent did know something and tried to reclaim guard but god knows what he was trying to do with the head lock. the guy didn't touch Master Lloyds face once?
hey a master isnt about time some time its just a god given talent dont knock the man he beat this dude with ease lol i think he knows wht hes doing in bjj full mount was easy and leg lock was a brezz dude he got his bjj point but stand up may be where he lacks in i got some boxers in my gym that have A class wrestling takedown defence i think they can test mater Lloyd irvins
Well there you have it then, you explained it perfectly. You really cleared things up. I was under the impression that there was more to being a Master then beating a few black belts in Brazil. I was clearly misinformed. My bad.
To be the man you gotta beat the man! Anyone who wins big tournaments like the worlds, abu dhabi, mundials or pan ams should at least be deamed a master of competition jiu jitsu. I don't know that Irvin holds true to the tv image of the bald headed asian buddist that we think a master should be but Irvin's students are some of the best in the game, meaning that he has also mastered the art of coaching. I think his sales pitch in the grappling mags is cheesy but the man is one of the best!
Leglocks are more utilized in Sambo training and/or competitions, not more so Jujitsu/BJJ. But grappling is grappling! Great video!

Master Lloyd wasn't very sportsmanlike after the fight.

@dhunsber the guy said some really bad things about me before the fight. No need for him to try to shake me hand after the fight.

@lloydirvin - Fair enough, sir. I didn't lose any respect for you, just an observation. Thanks for the background.

Let me understand this. He went from a blue belt in 97 to a MASTER in such a short time??? And who was it exactly that deamed him a "master" again?
