Jack also shows his exemplary taste in music in another episode where he's listening to Gouge Away by the Pixies. People may hate on Jack, but he was probably my favorite character and had much better taste in music than Hurley with his beach-folk CDs.
@lifeislikewater I resent that. Hurley had a good taste in music. Not my kind of music but...it was still good music. I have always said when it comes to music...If you can stand to listen to it for longer than 2 minutes than its a good song. Whether its you kind of music or not. I am an Oasis and Bob Marley fan myself. But Those are some of my favorite Hurley scenes and some of my favorite Lost scenes period.
the writters say they based the whole story of jack off the island on kurt cobain and really followed his character, thats why they used this song. when kurt played this song, he was at the same mental place as jack in this scene
@bogoio Huh? Do you mean the rerun...because when it was a new episode it didn't air on April 5. Not ranting or anything..Just getting facts straight. Whether it was a rerun or not it was a good thing to do.
No es la primera vex que sale un tema de Nirvana en una pelicula, una vez escuche en una pelicula de Drew Barrymore el tema "Love Buzz", no me acuerdo el nombre de la peli pero la Drew era una mina reventada y suicida....
I always knew Jack was a grunger :-) Yeah. Very cool idea from the writers of Lost. Maybe there's an easter egg here (definitely there is in fact one here). Nothing is random.
damn, i haven't seen this since it first came out and i coulda sworn it was serve the servants... damn i've been saying wow ain't it cool that they played serve the servants in lost. man that's a school boy error right there, don't get me wrong i'm a massive nirvana fan, one of the most misunderstood bands ever. what i mean by that is they had so many fans who they hated, you know the type ignorant racist pondscum.
Do you even know why they picked this song/type of music for the scene?
Spoilers ahead here*
-because it added a since of the past to the scene. You thought it was the 90's maybe. Turns out it wasn't the 90's at all, it was in the future, as in, past 2007 sometime.
They used it to keep you thinking it was in the past.
also...., it either took place on the aniversary of cobains death or was filmed that day or something like that. the producers/ writers did it as sort of a nod to cobain.
to all the people who say this is selling out is deluded. lost, no matter your feelings about it, is a creative work. it is using a great song to give a meaning and an atmosphere to the scene. i have no doubt that Kurt Cobain would have no issue with this, even if he didnt like the show. selling out would be using Kurt's music to sell a product like in an ad. Scentless Apprentice for an Anti-Perspirant. People should chill.
If you looks closly -pause- it at the part when he's reading the paper when its ripped, you'll see its definatly a guy, so it isnt Juliet, as i've read in some other videos.
I think Jack was going to either Michael's wake or John Locke's wake. Most likely Michael because he was trying to go to LA in the beginning and it appears to be a black neighborhood.

I'm not personally a big Nirvana fan, but this song is freaking perfect for the scene and the character in his current state.
That's a sharp classic Ford Bronco he's driving, too.
