  • yayyyy 100,000 views!

  • TIME WARP!

  • This is very nice indeed. There's only one problem; i -think- that the left hand is not quite developed enough. The distinctive 'stride' sound of swinging piano from this era is largely missing due to underemployment of the left hand. Is this was developed more then this would be truly awesome (and i would buy it!)

  • 13 people who disliked this, please post a vid that shows someone playing piano better than this!

  • SHEET MUSIC!

  • A MA GAAAAAAAAAAAAD

  • Another great performance but I noticed one thing. No Super Mario 2?!? That was the jazzy one to begin with.

Story goes that the originally developed SM2 was so bad that they purchased what we now know as SM2 from another dev team and changed characters. That's why it's so damn weird compared to the rest of the canon.

  • @poolshark1520 you're absolutely right, SM2 is completely missing from this sorry =/

my only excuse is that I never played SM2 as a kid, so the music wasn't ingrained in my head like the other ones...easier to learn.

But yeah, I've since played SM2 and it's trippy and amazing...

  • This is truly amazing. Your arrangement of the Super Mario World End Credits was one of my favorite parts of this. Athletic Rag from Super Mario World was also pretty great.

  • This is the most amazing video on Youtube I have EVER seen. You are AMAZING! At 8:40 your hands are FLYING like crazy! Your hands are like lightning!

  • Bravo! love it :D

  • 13 people had an atari and are still pissed off about it lol

  • Your stide was the cleanest part of it. HOW DO YOU DO IT?

  • I love this part 4:10 - x:x

    <3

  • wow. that. is. brilliant.

  • This is awesome! It's like watching Thing and his buddy having a good time tinklin' the ivories (then hopped up on speed or sth towards the end, holy crap!)

Mario tunes always make me feel happy (except 1-2 level start [which sounded scary as a kid] and any of the castles - always a sense of dread with those, lol)

  • Amazing. I'm trying to teach myself and I one day hope to play this on my own.

  • You are really good at the piano! I wish I could play the piano like that!

  • lol i was at disneyland yesterday and the ragtime piano player started playing this really fast XD

  • @dragonuvkiller666 haha, awesome! Nice to hear there are other pianists who play Mario music in the ragtime style (really, is there any other way?)

  • 13 people are allied with bowser

  • @123algproductions Don't worry, they're just koopas and I jumped on their heads.

  • Do you have sheet music for your jazzy arrangement? I'm in a high school music conservatory and we have juries coming up soon. I'd love to do your version of these songs as my performance!

  • You should work on a zelda one now.

  • you should get a better camera, i am curious to see how fast your hands are actually going. it looks like they are just freaking teleporting.

  • 13 people are jealous because they cant play like him

  • YOU SHOULD DEF WORK AT AN OLD WEST PARK PLAYING

  • 5:17

    my favorite!

    good job

  • Loved it, very well done.

  • lol. this is sick!!!!! XD

  • fats waller, art tatum

  • It's-a Plumber's Tune!

  • it's all about that funked up version of Bowsers Castle! love it, thanks xxx

  • OOOOOH MYYYYYY GOOOOOOOOD!

  • at some parts, i feel as if im in one of those saloons in westerns with the birds up in the birdcage and the bad guys outside shootin up the place orderin a whiskeey, but wait... its mario...

  • I watch this video every so often and it never fails to make me smile. Well done, sir.

  • Wow, did I just hit the the subscribe button? No, I think i just hit the stalk and listen and wait for every video button..

  • No mames, GENIAL!!!!

  • I do say, you've done a remarkable job.

  • damn it!! i want to learn piano so bad ._.!

  • I DEMAND AN MP3.

No, srsly. I'd rock this shit full blast every chance I got.

Thanks for making Mario sound like something from a spaghetti western, though -- I see sepia-toned Steamboat Willy-era animations of Mario games every time I hear this track. Especially when you do the castle theme from SMB1, it sounds like Koopa should have a twirly moustache.

  • Holy wow! That's amazing.

  • gawd dam, this dude knows how to play

  • I love the jazzy spin he puts on the cave/castle music at 6:00

  • You are awesome. Or insane. Or both? Insawesome?

  • Awesome arrangement! I couldn't get quite all of the themes, but here's my best guess, in order. Super Mario Bros. (SMB) Overworld; SMB Underworld; SMB Castle; SMB Water; Mario 3 Overworld; (Unknown 4:08); Super Mario World (SMW) Opening; (Unknown 4:47); SMW Forest Map; SMW Castle Stage; SMW Star Road Map; SMW Credits; SMW Overworld Stage; SMW Overworld Stage, less than 100s left; SMB Game Over;
  • @NARRocketman 4:47 is from SMW, when you beat the koopa bosses at the end of each area (where mario does something crazy to the fortress). Think it might also apply to the switch palaces, but not sure.

as for 4:08, it sounds so familiar, but I can't put my finger on it.

nice job on the other ones though rocketman, they look good

Foundring, if you read this, I'd greatly appreciate a reponse to what you were playing from 4:08 to about 4:29, or at least what game it's from, thanks

  • @evilbooyaa no big mystery there, it's just me having some fun with the Mario 3 Overworld theme, as rocketman pointed out.

And you're right about 4:47, but that theme also plays at the very beginning of SMW, as well as when you beat the koopa boss.

  • @foundring Ah alright. It sounded like something you'd here when you beat a mario game.

Excellent playing by the way, especially when the mario 3 overworld started, I felt like I was playing the game; same with the SMW music

Thanks for giving some recognition to more than just the first 2 levels from SMB

  • All I'm listening to these days is Nintendo piano music. You'd think I'd run out of material after a day or two, but there is SO much talent in this little niche.

This is probably the best video of its type I've seen yet. foundring; you are one amazing piano guy.

  • I've been snuffling through dozens of Mario music links on youtube. Some stuff is pretty amazing but this is *the* Mario that defeats Bowser and gets the Princess. Bravissimo!

  • que buena version, la verdad que un maestro el que esta tocando ese piano, es la que mas me gusta de todas la que andan dando vueltas ja

  • The Bowser's theme is the best, seriously, Bowser could have that be the music for his cocktail parties.

  • Awesome Job!!!

  • yay for mario! This is really great! I love it! It was great talking to you too!! :) Nicole

  • how much did this guy spend to play this well

  • Spend...as in money? You'll have to ask my parents, but piano lessons as a kid really do add up...

As far as time goes, I've been playing for 18 years, or since I was around 5 or 6.

  • seriously, i love coming back to this video. i personally play VGM alot, and i love listening to jazz music, so everytime i listen to this, i am blown away with admiration with some jealousy ;) what i would do to hav ur talent....:P 5/5

  • @hyoshinkim7 i still look at this every so often, and i still have the same admiration for your skills! :D

  • @foundring It's official. Our generation has hope, after all. (goes to hug my piano and NES)

  • @sinancans He spent time. Lots and lots of time. Practice, they call it.

  • @donnerbrandpear

    yeah i used wrong word=D

  • Oh yizzes, Just one word: GREAT!!

  • :) brilliant!

  • There are a few notes that I don't think fit very well, but aside from that some very good songs. Thank you.

  • love it soo cool!

  • I think my jaw dropped from hitting the floor really hard from watching this video. I am in just pure awe. Bravo! =)

  • omg that's sooo cool! i wish i could play like that.

  • Wow, even sped up, you're a heck of a piano player. Very nice!

  • @majicebe Wow, even for asserting your half-assed cynicism, you still know nothing about piano.

  • this is awesome!!! makes me SO happy

  • @benyanis you are the fake one lol this guy never does that to the videos

  • Swing your arms from side to side, DO THE MARIO!!!!!

  • you actually managed to make me wish I had a SNES again... good times

  • love it

  • i love how near the end you made the little jingle that plays when youre almost out of time, and then you sped up the music. GENIUS

  • the song at 3:39 is my favorite

  • Fuckin' Genius!Your interpretation is totally amazing!Very, very good work!

  • Hehe, you rock!

  • God damn you fucking ROCK!!! I can't even begin to describe how beautiful and intense your playing is. You took videogame music and turned it into a 40's movie music score. Bravo!!

  • love it man

  • Absolutely outstanding!

  • yeah man this sounds great ^_^

can you tell me where do you have the notes from?^^

  • Thanks man, I like your user name, hehe.

Sorry, as of now there's no score for this piece, it's all in my head.

But I promise to someday do a transcription for this and I'll make it available online!

  • yeaaah ;D

    Genial (Y)

  • oh my God!!!! very nice!!! Preciosa la forma de tocar la cancion =) 5*****

  • Do you know what the second song is called? because it's my favourite Mario song :)

  • The second one? I think you mean the "underground" theme when you first go down a pipe in the second part of the first Mario world in the original game. That one right?

  • SCORE!

    NOWZ PLZ.

    (cant wait)

  • You are incredible! I wish that I could play piano that well...

  • awesome sauce, man!

  • Really like this arrangement, very well played too and the sound quality is also good. However it would have been nice to have a better view

  • Love the style you played it in!! So amazing!!

  • It sounds fantastic.

  • I'd like sheet music :D

  • Amazing. Those were pretty fun sounding songs and imagine they are as fun to play.

  • I liked the part were you played the piano especially.

  • That was simply beautiful. If I could give you all the Mario stars on Super Mario, I would... Also, did you arrange that yourself? I played something very similar (not for that long, however) on my stringed bass.

  • Thanks, and yeah I arranged this myself.

I can't imagine playing these tunes on a stringed bass though, sounds really hard! You should make a video, eh?

  • Haha, It's not that difficult, I think it's easier to play stringed instruments by ear, so once I actually write the notes down, I'll have a video. :]

  • SO GOOD, i like the mario tune

  • Omg :o

    Nice :)

  • i just love this especially the part begining at 6:53 it sounds so much like the happy soft stride piano back in the old days

  • at 8:00 is also a good one

  • i seriously respect you!

This is something which takes serious practice. 99.99% of people havn't even heard of Tatum or Fatts Waller who were incredibly influential in keeping the jazz era alive. I'm glad to see that they have influenced some to do things such as that.

As I enjoy playing in their style this video is worth 100 stars. Both for performance and effort.

    unbelievably clean stride. top job!!

  • I agree with everything that he just said! (Snakekid33)

  • *looks to the very end of the piano while listening to the music from stage 1-4* Ahh! They're endless! ENDLESS!

  • Amazing! I was thinking about making a similar video of those would-be stride classics, but your version is flawless...awesome job!

  • INSANE!!

You should counsider going to las vegas or some high class new york Cabaret to play some piano (not mario but your other stuff) Cause you could get alot of money with your style my friend!

    Good luck.

  • DUDE UR FRIGGIN PRO :D:D:D:D:D:D i give ya a BIG FAT 11/10!!

  • 6:49 - 7:58 is my favorite part.

  • You are one of the few on YouTube who play Mario themes and actually have good technique and play pretty clean. I will say this however...I wouldn't change the music so much, I mean, yeah, it's not like a classical music where you just do not change the music, but I mean what I do is, maybe after the Air Platform one, I do an octave chromatic or something, but I don't actually change the melody in any way, or any of them. So just try not to change the music so much, it sounds too different.

  • Other than that, well done. Bravo.

  • Why does this have so many thumbs down? Its just constructive criticism.

  • It's because they're the kind of people where they will punch your mother in the face if you even THINK of making a negative comment. It's funny though here, I didn't even know I was getting so many thumbs down, but it's funny since I actually said he plays better than most people on YouTube...I'm not that nice of a commenter, so for me to even say doesn't satisfy people, I have to say something like "You're the best pianist of all time" to satisfy..it's sad these stupid people.

  • True, indeed.

  • Hey, thanks for the response, and sorry you're getting voted down. But honestly I feel as if you aren't really offering any constructive criticism, what you're doing is offering your artistic opinion (there's a difference).

The entire point of me doing this video was to change things around a bit and deviate from the original into my own style as much as possible, without losing the original intent of the music. I think you're mistaking where I'm coming from entirely.

  • My idea was to fuse these styles--the nintendo game music genre, and the improvisation-based stride/early jazz genre. If I wanted to recreate the music exactly, that would be an entirely different project. But as it is, the point of this genre (and this video) is to "play around" with the melody in an improvisational style.

Sorry it's not to your liking, but saying "I do an octave chromatic or something" not only isn't constructive criticism, but it doesn't make any sense. Could you elaborate?

  • Ahh the octave chromatic thing is something I do, if you're heard the first piano concerto by Tchaikovsky, if you know the piano part at the very end, you should know what I'm talking about. I understand where you're coming from, but you made it your own style as much as possible, and it's almost hard to hear the original music sometimes.

  • Ah maybe I should've read the description. So let me start over. After watching this again, I will say, the Air Platform Theme and the Credits from Super Mario World, those sound great when you're doing the improvised stuff to them...however, some of them like the Overworld Themes from Super Mario World sound kinda weird when you try to make them all jazzy, so I would just say leave some of those the way they are.

  • what say do you have? he's being artistic.

    shut the hell up.

    source: pianist for 15 years.

  • It doesn't matter how long somebody plays, it matters how much you progress. There was a lady that came to be taught by my piano teacher. This lady was 85 years old and has been playing since she was 5. 80 years of piano. Sure that may sound good, but she stopped progressing at about age 9 because she refused to play her scales/arpeggios/exercises but still wanted to play many masterpieces by Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, etc., but of course that's not possible.

  • Anyways, my point is, if being a pianist for 15 years is your source, just know that just saying that doesn't mean it's a legit source, somebody can play piano for 80 years and not progress at all. And sure, how much you progress in piano may not sound art-related, it is, since most people can't truly express themselves on the piano, that comes from technique.

  • Nicely done! I love Mario =)

  • You sure have some talent!

  • awesome!

  • Excellent!

  • Very well done :)

@ those of you who believes it's sped up, take a look at the return speed of the keys, and compare to a piano ;) for that sake, listen, if it was sped up the sound would be distorted and sound weird :)

  • It looks sped u because of the camera. Hands shaking doesn't help either! I'm thinking an energy drnk might have been used lol! Excellent job!!!!

  • thats amazing ur verrrryyyy talented

  • I don't think it was. Just listen to the notes, and watch his other videos. He's the real deal.

  • Not denying his authenticity, just the video looks sped up to me.

  • the frame rate may not be sufficiently fast enough to capture enough movement. so it just looks faster than it really is because you aren't seeing the whole picture. i'm assuming it was recorded with a webcam which isn't going to produce the most quality picture.

  • wow.....the only words that can come out of my mouth! :D

  • WOW at the last part it was difficult to see your left hand moving

  • Daamn you :D You're a good player ;) In my opinion you should play with more feelings. You play alot with feelings to, but i know that you can add more :D

  • WOOOOW!!!! im a true fan of this, your GREAT 5/5***

Can I ask where did u get the sheet music ?

  • There's no sheet music, it's just in my head.

I promise to write it all down as soon as I can...but...it's a process...

  • Ok, thankyou for doing that :P

  • I want the score!!!!

  • Whoah! Your swinging versions of the songs are just incredible. They sound much better then the originals :) Excellent work

  • Brill LOl.

    xox

  • ABSOLUTELY !

    superb performance !!
