I was born in Trinidad but I grew up in the west. There is a world of difference inbetween the two countries. As you move out from the big cities in Trinidad to the countryside (e.g. Port Of Spain to Debe or a smaller village), you'd swear that you had entered a second world country, or even third world country in some places. Who still uses an outhouse? How is it that a 'house' has no electricity hookup or fresh water plumbing? It's not all like that but these places still exist in Trinidad.

@dwalosie there are institutions where these people (vagrants, homeless people etc) are placed and treated if treatment is needed & when they are released they fall back into the same old habits (drugs, etc). Some of these people are very sane but pretend to be insane just to rant, so they are not "part of the landscape" because no one cares, they continuously put themselves back into the same position each time.So please there was no request for your comparisons between Trini and ur adventures.

Don't get me wrong: when I say socially acceptable I don't mean all Trinis are like that, far from it (although I did feel a lot less safe in Port of Spain than in many MUCH poorer south American countries, and I know what I'm talking about, I spent 2.5 years in Latin America). I was born in Trinidad but I grew up in the west. There is a world of difference inbetween the two countries. As you move out from the big cities in Trinidad to the countryside (e.g. Port Of Spain to Debe or a smaller village), you'd swear that you had entered a second world country, or even third world country in some places. Who still uses an outhouse? How is it that a 'house' has no electricity hookup or fresh water plumbing? It's not all like that but these places still exist in Trinidad.

@dwalosie there are institutions where these people (vagrants, homeless people etc) are placed and treated if treatment is needed & when they are released they fall back into the same old habits (drugs, etc). Don't get me wrong: when I say socially acceptable I don't mean all Trinis are like that, far from it (although I did feel a lot less safe in Port of Spain than in many MUCH poorer south American countries, and I know what I'm talking about, I spent 2.5 years in Latin America). Because it one of the few developing countries that have decided to take responsibility for their own corruption. The same goes for Botswana. Sadly these are exceptions. Even relatively non-corrupt Sweden was very corrupt 100 years ago. The political leaders must decide to 'step down' and 'tackle corruption'.
