  • @venusdave no the 550 is better !

  • كاميرا غالية و مميزاتها متواضعة

  • @tarab99 No tarab99.... It can't be used to make a b0mb

  • D90 is a great camera!

  • great preview

  • is that a bayonet hood?

  • yes it is

  • seems hard to use for beginners compared to d5000? yet there's no stock of d5000 but i hv to go on a trip. what should i do? (i prefer nikon to canon)

  • did they recall all their D5000's? thats what i've heard =/

  • yep, they did. but i think it's already out again after they made some changes.

  • @ecyor7 no, i don't think so

  • i love this camera

  • dam that's a beauty! haha

  • ah no i was wrong. but 5d mark2 is full hd not 720

  • canon was first with hd video

  • please tell me

  • This is a great Forum for DSLR's

    motiondslr

  • what an annoyin man!!! hes throwing it all over the place!! grrrrr!!! i hope he drops it!

  • Guys I come across a shop he offer me the price for Body D90 is RM3300/ S 976

he give me option to choose from

    a)New Set with Orig lens RM4300 / S 1272 Body + (18-105)mm-with bag +4G card

    or

    b)Body with separate lens RM3300 / S 976 Body + (55-200)mm with bag +4G card

  • hahahha you're funny :P but true true true XD

  • @hobbitthedog i guess he is trying to say that its light...whish its not..hehe

  • wow your hand mannerisms are annoying

  • Author; May I request to re-use this video for education purposes in class if I need it? This is probably the most annyoing presentation Ive seen in my life, I have never wanted to kill myself after watching one before. Cred to you ofc, says your name in the video and all.

  • I almost have to stop watching the video because of the swapping hands thing... fail

  • same here... evil hand swapping guy -______-

    stupid swapfag

  • What is the correct pronounciation of Nikon? is it "nee-kon" or "nay-kon" ???

  • to correct the lens stated below,

the actual kit lens is AF-S NIKKOR 18-105mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR lens.

Notice it has VR functionality incorporated into the lens to counter the camera shake with the zoom-in position.

  • Very cool, want one.

Hate how Stauart keeps switching the camera from left to right hand and vice versa.

  • Hey I got a SDHC card of 4GB but it's the normal version (not extreme or ultra)... Is this good enough for the D90, or won't I be able to shoot pictures at 4.5fps or shoot a HD vid

  • depends... the video is useless and for 4.5 fps you want extreme.

  • cool video. im getting mine very soon with 18-200 lens

  • my brother got d90 with sb-800 flashlight.....

  • Does anyone know what lens is on that D90?

  • i think its a Nikon 18-105mm AF-S DX VR f/3.5-5.6G ED Lens

  • Just like he said...

I got one and i love it. The 18-105 is a decent kit lens. The movie function should be seen as a bonus, not the easiest to use. But the pic quality is awesome! I higly recommend it.

  • got my d90 last week and i love it!

  • cool im getting mine in a week lol! how is it?

  • its great!

  • Question can you connect microphones to the camera, to record better quality Audio?

  • Ho gad stop playing it from hand to hand you can drop it !#$%^

  • not bad video at all...not bad

  • THANKS FOR THE QUICK REPLY.

  • don't drop it, its quite expensive

  • D90, 40d and 50d, Which ones has the best image quality went shooting, That's what I care the most ?

  • well the d90 is probably the best because of all the new stuff irs got.

  • I ordered my Nikon D90 Last week and just got it yesterday. So far very, very impressed. This thing rocks!

  • You have definitly no idea what you are talk about!

  • to bad you can't spell "definitely"

  • too bad you can't spell "too"

    lol. peace

  • lol.. you got me there

  • This guy keeps swinging the camera from hand to hand I was terrified of him dropping it lol...I just ordered my D90 today!

  • I ordered mine last night. I cannot freaking wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • Got mine 2 weeks ago! ITS A GREAT CAMERA!!! I love shooting with it! Can't put it out of my hand!!!

  • impressive. i need to get my hands on one of those lol.

  • nice camera, costco has this for $1,299 with 18-55mm lens. damn this this new dslr looks beautiful. bet canon are going to come up with one in the market by June. congrats to nikon!

  • They just added a D90 with a 17-105mm VR lens for $1,179.99. I had the Canon Rebel XSi from them for a month and just returned it to buy the Nikon D90. I love Canon products but hated this camera. I took over 300 photos with my Dad's Nikon D80 (same body) and the Canon, and there was a big difference in the photo quality and speed. The Canon was also too small for my hand.

  • Nikon D90 is a brilliant camera and a lot of what it can do is not always apparent. But have a look at my music video I shot with this camera.

  • How can you even attempt to compare DSLRs with standard digital cameras? Yes you may shoot a few macro pics with some more expensive regular cameras, but they will be nowhere nearly as high quality as a close up you'd shoot even with the crappiest of DSLRs.

  • i love my nikon!!!

  • The lens looks like the standard 18-105mm kit it comes with. Got one today. The video mode is nice to have but not a necessity.

  • Nikon is good or benq

  • does anyone know what size lens he is using in the video? thanx

  • this camera have super macro? and how much zoom? i love this camera

  • Its a SDSLR!!! all the zoom and the macro and stuff depend on the type of lens you put on it!!!

  • yea...but the standard lenses...aah i was just asking...now i bought another camera...thanx anyway

  • good camera, i get it 5days ago... must look manual, if i want get good photos.

  • hey, can you film a movie with the lens that comes with it, or do you need to purchase a seperate lense to be able to record video?

  • Hey... can somebody pls tell me how much is the approximate size of a RAW file and of .jpeg file in max resolution made with this camera - and approximate size of a movie file (when filming 5 mins in FullHD & 20 mins in normal movie mode)?

  • i did a ballpark calculation on a HD (1280x720, 24 fps) video from a D90 posted on dpreview. the file was 5 seconds long and 14,763 KB. this means it's roughly 2,952 KB/second (approx). there are 300 seconds in 5 minutes, so that would be about 885 MB for 5 minutes. they had another hd file (same resolution/fps) with a shallow depth of field (closeup of foozball table) which was only 8.8 megs for 5 seconds. so it looks like the f-stop, focus, zoom, etc. may affect file size.

  • Wow. thats pretty large for a video file.

    Thanks for the info!

  • must admit, the footage looks amazing!

  • How many times did he change the hand, holding the camera :D

By the way, nice one, planning to buy it after the christmas holydays..

  • hahhahha right..

  • its a sample

if not then it must not be heavy

  • ah ah ah!

  • I think a few D90 buyers were hoping they'd got themselves a "D300 on the cheap," and talked up it's capabilities as perhaps, as its newer it night be even better than the D300.

A nice thought for some; until, DPR's actual review squashed that thought!

Still many D90 owners think that the sensor is identical to that of the D300; It's not! It is similar and probably the same as the Sony A700 sensor and I'm sure the D90 is still a very capable mid-range camera. It's just not a D300.

  • damn it and i just got the D80 last year, damn it, it took them fucking long enuff to finally release a 12 mp camera, stupid nikon, now i want this one....AAHGHHGHGHGHHHHHH

  • The man's shirt looks revolting. Very unprofessional in appearance. He should have at least one more button tied, and the collar looks like it's too small for his neck. I couldn't concentrate on what was being discussed because he looked so sloppy.

  • You are neurotic if you're that obsessed with how a technology reviewer is dressed. If anything, their voice is the only thing really important besides the information they're providing. Even then it's only really important if they sound so annoying it distracts from what they're saying.

  • You should have got a D300 NOT a Nikon D90. D300 does 6fps 8fps with battery grip, 51-points with 3d tracking vs. 11-points. D300 also has a stronger build its not a piece of plastic. Its waterproof and dust proof with a magnesium body / 2 ports 1. For pc sink 2. 10-pin for timers ect D300 is a much better camera vs. a plastic toy the Cmos is much better in the D300 also.

  • They're completely different price range. The D300 is about 700 dollars more expensive.

  • Try 300.00 more. D90 Who the hell buys Dx lens? get the Pro 2.8/f's not the slow Dx lens.

  • How about now. D90 on newegg including the DX lens is 1224.99. D300 is 1759.99 BODY ONLY, if you get a lens you're looking at several hundred more at least for a decent lens. I think the D90 is 959.99 body only or something like that. So around 800 dollars difference.

  • Wrong agin look on B and H Photos Web Site. D90 is a plastic toy at best. Any monky can pick up a D90 and shoot photos in Auto mode. the bild quilty and options on D300 make it worth more and the resale is better. D300 8 Fps, Wethproof / Dust proof body. Dx lens are a joke also slow speed's onley buy 2.8/f's lenes. They work on my D3 / D300 / D700.

  • I'm not "wrong" those are indeed the prices on newegg. On the B and H photos website, body only the d90 is 999.95, d300 is 1512.99. that's still a 500 dollar difference.

So you have 1500, 2000, 5000s dollar camera. Obviously you have more money than the hobby photographer. The point of having differently priced products of differing quality is so those who can't afford the top of the line, can still get something decent. The d90 is more than decent for the price.

  • Oh and what you said earlier was wrong too, the d300 does not have a "much" better cmos sensor. They are the exact same size, and from what I've read, actually the same one.

Besides, why are you trying to push the D300? If people can afford the D300, okay. If they can't, they can buy the d90 instead. People wouldn't be looking at the review for this camera if they had the money to just go out and buy the absolute best there is.

  • If you want to trade detail for less noise, it's easy. Just set your NR to high. However, NR=low is the best trade-off between noise and detail for D300.

BTW, the D300 has 1002 segment matrix metering while the D90 has 420 so its metering is never going to be as good. It's just not a D300.

  • So, you really have never used this camera then, right? The image quality is excellent, with similar high ISO capability. The 4.5fps is fine for all but the fastest sports(but that would also require $10,000 in fast lenses also), no one has reported breaking on that I've heard. Both are very good cameras where the only limit to quality is the the skills of the photographer. It would be virtually impossible to spot any difference in photos from either camera.

  • My only complaint about the D90 is the Audio quality that you get from the built inn mic...they really should've put in a mic in port in there as an option but I guess that'll be for the "D90x" or whatever the next upgrade will be then making me want to get one too,Other than that pretty solid camera...I also find high ISO settings at night w/ pop up flash kinda reddish...but custom white balance settings correct that easily so thats cool. I love the camera (until the next upgrade)

  • The video is an extra feature that no other DSLR has(soon canon will have one out that has video as well). The main focus of the camera is still images, not the absolute best video capabilities. Unless the audio quality is flat out BAD, as in it sounds like the camera is positioned under a lawn mower, there's no reason to complain. It's like complaining that the gps in a Ferrari isn't as good as you'd have liked.

  • Um yeah I'm saying the audio quality is flat out bad...has a ringy tone to high frequencies like a low bitrate mp3...compared to the quality of video its like having a ferrari in performance and looks with a suzuki interior...so i think thats reason to complain...but I always say, if you want video get a camcorder, takes great shots...love my camera!!!

  • I added a 3.5mm jack on the connector board and the audio quality is not bad. The problem with the built in mic is that it is an omni of course, and has to have automatic gain control so ambient room noise is picked up. A good shotgun mic or closely positioned unidirectional or figure 8 (if two people are talking) would be fine on it.

But, this is not a camera for a serious videographer. It is a superb still camera that just happens to have some video capability, don't get it just for video.

  • Alright well my dad was a photographer and used a nikon D2x and he just passed away and i really want to take up photography after him, and i dont want to start out with the D2x because i know it is a professional camera so im wondering if i should start out with the d60 or d90.

  • sorry to hear about your dad- (in a relative way- I know I didnt know him!) but its nice you want to take up photography in his name- 2 things- just get what your budget can afford, and secondly if you have his d2x use that as well, you will get the hang of it with enough practice...

  • amazing videos feature.

  • He uses his hands alot lol.

  • Obviously the newer more expensive camera is going to be "better"

But it Most likely to probably has many many things that a beginning photographer wont even be using, So if your beginning just get the D40 for like 500 bucks.

  • i love D90!!

  • Just buy a d80 with a good lens and it will piss over the d90!! A camera is only as good as it's lens. I have a d80 with Nikon 18-200mm f3.5-5.6 G AF-S DX VR Lens + B+W Kaesemann Ultimate Digital Polarizing Filter and it's pretty amazing.

  • A CAMERA is only as good as a photographer. The 80 and 90 have differences (outside the video capability) that make the 90 better. Better Max and Min resolution; better sensor; way better ISO rating with boost making it go to 6400; better White Balance with 12 positions (D80 only has 6); slightly better FPS; LCD has 920,000 pixels compared to the 80's 230,000; LCD IS 3" compared to 2.5". The D80 does beat the D90 with one thing-it's lighter! 668g vs 703g. The D90 is worth the extra change.

  • and u can make videos

  • Err, no. The D90's resolution, D lighting and ISO performance is on par as the D300, D700 and almost as good as the D3. So, the D80 and D90 are in two different leagues.

  • The problems with this camera are that you cannot convert RAW files, even if you buy their expensive software and the audio on the video is completely crap ( an external mic socket wouldn't exactly have broken the bank would it?).If you can bear these (major) irritations its quite a good deal.

  • I never cared if a camera converted or not. All I'm going to do is use Lightroom and/or Photoshop when I edit anyway. Plus, this is a first. Probably in 6 months Nikon would've advanced it and put it in another camera. This has been a great 2 years for Nikon. And the hits just keep on coming!

  • what do you mean? I just converted my RAW picture with just the program called ViewNX, that comes with the D90.

I can convert it to a TIFF 16&8-bits and to JPEG format.

So what are you talking about dude?

  • I read somewhere that the camera's sensor heats up when recording video, it think that's why it has a limit of 5 minutes of HD video recording.

  • yeah, i also heard that it heats up with live view too

  • The movie mode sounds great but my understanding is you can record on video mode for short period at a time. I like the idea of fast shutter speed and the D90 can't meetmy expectations on that. I'm glad I settled with the D300. I don't need a movie mode. I've got a good digital camcorder that works just fine.

  • I want it :D

  • i would newer buy DSLR which makes video..

i would buy better d80 or d200 and save money..

  • the d90 is an upgrade of the d80, and direct comparisons show that the d90 is better than the d80. d90 is a trimmed down version of the d300 (i think), which is also an upgrade of the d200

so whilst you're saving money with the d80 / 200, they're not statistically better. each to their own i guess!

  • ye, i talked about cheaper cameras, not d300 which with normal lens would cost £1.5k .

d200/d80 with lens cheaper than £1k..

  • wondering, I am making a low budget ski movie, but I would need more than 5 minutes of HD footage if I were to go up all day. Is that specific to memory cards, or is that the simple capacity of the camera?

  • its not memory based, you're restricted to just 5 minutes of HD (i don't know why) or 20 minutes at lower resolutions. it MAY be memory restrictions, but then putting a time limit would be pointless... i guess its just something nikon 'had' to do?

  • lol the first dslr to have 720p video, wrong....the HDS2000 from FUJIFILM is a small dslr-like camera that has 10megapixel sensor and 720p video recording. and its only 299.99 dollars!!

  • He's not wrong. A TRUE dslr is a totally different animal form a "dslr-like" camera. "Dslr-like" means point-and-shoot, no matter how big the lens is. It also means smaller sensors and slower shutter speeds, and they normally come with video. Video on the d90 is a first for a true dslr.

  • i'd rather save my money for the canon 5d mk2 =)

  • lol how many times did he pass it from one hand to another, nikon tennis lololol

  • i know very distracting

  • nice..very NICE..

  • Greatest camera ever!! I love this thing!! It rocks!!

Now if only I could find something interesting to shoot at...

  • I find the video on the D90 absolutely useless.... hard to focus and can't be viewed through the eyepiece. *growl*

  • yes but you can do video! and you have the control of a high end digital video camera

  • who makes a video option without the use of the eyepeice.... I'm cranky dang it!

  • I'm getting this for my birthday :)

  • I've just ordered mine tonight, can't wait :-D

  • so being that a red rock adaptor is like 2 grand on it's own, my question is this... does this cam work on ccds and if so are there three?

  • Papagaio

  • Does the D90 have the time lapse movie mode???????? I need it I can't find it!

  • i do a lot of filming and photos , dont get this if you think your gonna beable to make a film , 5mins of video isnt much and buy looking at the footage it has a slight stobe effect and delay of frames per second , good for messing about , think im gonna go for the nikon d80

  • Buy a vedio camera, if you interstd in Taking vedio.

    Nikon D80 is the best

  • at least the d80 had iso 100

  • it has an adjustment low iso and hi iso that could reach from iso 100 to 6400 respectively. : )

  • This is what you'd call a

"Flashy, shiny, 'My dick is tiny'" camera.

Still cameras are still cameras. Buy a fucken video camera if you want video.

  • only intelligent people see the advantage of HD video in DSLR's... otherwise they're dumb lol... Canon EOS 5D Mark II has HD video also. think again!

  • The only intelligent people are at Nikon and Canon because they know you'll buy the dumb shit they put out.

  • Videofeature? come on! I buy a camera for taking frozen pictures. not to film.. The only ppl that could have use of this might be paparazzi? If I bought one of these cameras it wouldn't be for the filming...

  • oh my god! video recording?!?! i really need to get that.

  • Hey nepaliman ... You sure he went to UK? 1.8% Indians in UK ... so I doubt it looks the same :)

D90 kicks serious arse, and sets a new level for pro-consumer cameras. As a DSLR it's amazing with brilliant features and D300-like results.

The cinematic quality HD video recording is just amazing ... Nikkor lenses and a classy sensor!

Been waiting for this breakthrough for 2 years ... just new it had to come. No more lugging around 2 cameras on trips too! Thanks! Just brilliant Nikon!

  • ya. he said indian have shops and all. . but i haven't been .. but indian scripts in london shows that right mate?

    haha

  • 1:40

it was Indian ( Bengali) script in London..

    wow Indians are everywhere...

few weeks back my friend came back from UK, he told me that UK is just like modern India with few whites people as tourist .. he said visiting UK is just same as going India ..

  • lol..

  • If I could go back, I'd probably would have waited to buy this Nikon D90, over my Olympus E-520.

With a 70-300mm lens would be killer.

  • I have this camera just got it it is awesome . I also have the D70 an it blows it away

  • i dont think its good that you can make video.

its a dslr, its ment for photos

  • how much money did this guy get for making such a review...well....was it a review? It was just a description really....change the name review and I am happy.

  • all i can say is that it's about F'ing time. The canon s5 is was the first step towards a decent hybrid, however image quality was a huge limitation.

wait is the video 5 minutes long because of the included 1gb card?

  • 5 mins is not good

  • That is 5 minutes per take. How many > 5 minute takes do you really need, you have never seen one in an actual film, besides it would be very boring and difficult to edit if you shot continuously without repositioning or changing pov. I suspect you never really produce any real videos if you think that is a limitation.

  • 5 min of video is garbage

  • Well, its better than 0 min of video on any other DSLR now isn't it? After all, a DSLR is not meant to be a camcorder....this is just an extra versatile feature that other DLSRs dont have. if you want something to take videos....BUY A CAMCORDER.

  • I noticed also that the footage supplied by nikon around London was composed of either stills or speeded up video shots. There wasn't an example of a simple bit of film that you could assess properly. How suspicious.

  • true

  • Does anyone know if the D90 has a built in Time Lapse feature? I was dissapointed when I bought a D40 and found that it did not and that there were no accesories to accomodate it (I still love my D40 though) ...

  • Time lapse..please dude. That can be easily done with video editing software on your pc or mac. You will have to add sound to your D90 footage with external softwrae....

  • Let me explain further ... I don't like to sit on a stool pressing a remote trigger every 5 minutes for 4 hours to make a 30 second video when I could set some parameters and walk away for the day. Do you have a yes or no answer?

  • you mean walk away for 5 min max. atleast thats what the video said.

  • 5 mins. max for high resolution and 30 mins max for low res.

  • Not video, I mean a time-lapse. Where you take a photo every so and so minutes and then compile them together to make a video. So I would set my camera on a tri-pod set it up for 1 picture every 1 hour and it would do just that.

    Sorry if I confused you.

  • has anyone answered your Q yet about the time lapse feature?? I got a D90 thinking it would have the feature and I can't find it.... my soul is dying ...help me
