@Archer: "Goodbye" from Blind. The middle of the song has a part where Harriet does multi-layered vocals that are so beautiful, it sounds like what I imagine Heaven would sound like. The rest of the song's great too.
I saw them in NYC supporting this album--they were outstanding. It was funny, though; they only had this set of songs to perform, so they repeated one of them for the encore.
For some reason, of all of the good stuff from the 80s and 90s, I always had a crush on Harriet - at least her voice and their sound. Soft, sexy, haunting, good beat. What's your favorite Sundays tune?
@MrBuc128 their first cd is all you need to know :-) ok... and the Wild Horses cover. Nuff said. I discivered them in early 1990... to this day they are one of my "top 10 if stranded on a desert island cds". (I own all their stuff... big, big fan)
It's a shame for us because they got out of the game after arguably their most successful album, but whether we like it or not, family is more important. I respect and lament Harriett and Dave's decision at the same time.
Every single time I hear Harriet Wheeler's voice, it takes me back to June of 1990 when one of my best friends at the time and I drove across Southern New Mexico.....White Sands, Cloudcroft, Arteisa, Carlsbad and the Sacramento Mountains.
Just going down memory lane... .saw them in Lawrence, KS at Liberty Hall back in the early 90's. Front row center... I sit back and think how lucky I was.
It's sad that we'll probably never have any new material but on the other hand it makes the memories legendary.
Songs like this make me sad that I was a die-hard "classic rock" nerd in high school, when this album came out. On the other hand, its powerful beauty and melancholy make me think that the Sundays were the very last thing a melodramatic fifteen-year-old kid needed to be exposed to!
I agree that this band should have had much more attention. I never heard of them until today. I hope they are still into doing music somehow somewhere.
DearMisfioPeton...It's not really a big deal,...I just HATE adverts, that's all !! Sorry if my comments spoiled your fun watchin' this vid of The Sundays...They are GREAT aren't they, specially Harriet, what a voice !! None of the girls in the modern era can touch her,In my humble opinion !!!
@MrBazzabee Just hit the 'Refresh' button on your browser as soon as the ad starts playing to skip the ad entirely. Loading the page twice will also do the trick.
What's underrated is the Sundays' songwriting, wonderfully rich lyrics interwoven with impossibly sweet minor-key melodies on an electric guitar like you've never heard.
Could they come back and hit this stride two decades later? God it would be nice.
@knotfest most of their songs are in major keys, especially major 7ths. this one included. and they are one of my absolute favorite bands, but i wouldn't say their guitar riffs/sounds are "like you've never heard"-they borrow a lot from johnny marr and the smiths
Wow! I've been a fan since their first album, and I never knew this existed. You're right, for music lovers only. It really is perfect. I'm so glad they decided to do their own thing and skip the stardom.
Sweet rihanna ad up top! hahahha.Like a squashed bug on a church window.Sing Harriet sing!
