  • Fantastic! Five stars!

    Greetings!

  • @violeirosurbanos Hi. Thanks for that.

  • Very beautiful*****

  • @MrPentatonicablues Many thanks.

  • You play and sing this beautifully

  • Cheers. Thanks for all your comments.

  • Dear Waggonerslad

Lovely playing. Could you give me a few clues as to how to play this, please? In the open position are you fretting just the fifth string at the second and hammering on the fourth at the first fret?

Then when you move up to the fifth and seventh frets, are you just fretting the fourth string or are you fretting other strings too?

Then at the tenth and ninth frets, are you just fretting the fifth and third strings, with the rest open?

Hope you can help - many thanks if so!

    Kev

  • Hi Kev. Thanks for the comment.

To answer your questions in turn:

    a. Correct

    b. First - string 3 at fret 7 and string 4 at fret 5 then 3 at 8 and 4 at 7.

    c. First - 3 at 12 and 5 at 10 then 2 at 10 and 5 at 9.

    I hope that makes sense!!

    Cheers

  • Super j'adore.

    5*****

    BRAVO

  • merci beaucoup. :)

  • nice version man, crackin tune. its all in the tunin baby..........5 star

  • Cheers. Appreciate the comment.

  • can you tab this song? x

  • Hi. Sorry that would be a bit of a big ask for me at the moment as I have quite a lot on my plate. Once you have the tuning the actual fingering is not too difficult. Hopefully this and the other vids out there should give you a good start.

    Thanks for commenting.

  • Very nice..slowly moving thru some of your JM covers!

Well this is one of my favourite JM songs of all time. Well played and delivered.

I have been racking my brains out on this one for years-i do a version in standard and dadgad but you need the 'modal' tuning to get the sound right like you did. [ps: Whats the title of that BBC video-I tend to need it!!-I DVDs and VTs, but none with YCanDiscover.]

  • Cheers Ian - if that's your real first name! :)

The DVD is "John Martyn at the BBC". It's in the extras along with some of his other classic OGWT performances.

  • I'm back! You make this song look so easy and natural and I know it's anything but! AGAEGC - that's some crazy tuning. It seems awfully low for the E string. (it's not the other way around is it?) I might give it a try and see what happens! I LOVE your cover! It's brilliant!

    cheers

    julie

  • No it's definitely that way round! :)

It is very low but it sounds wonderful. Give it a go.

  • cheers

  • Nice one Waggoner!!..

Another Martyn nut here! Have been trying to suss this one myself.

I have a tuning of AGAEGC but this sounds more like the standad version on Sunday;s Child whereas I wanna play it like the 'in session' version which sound a bit more minor maybe?

Think its somethin more than just using a capo tho

    Which tuning are you using?

  • I'm using AGAEGC, same as you. As I said in answer to another comment it's very much based on the OGWT performance which is on the BBC DVD. I'm going to have to have a close listen to In Session again because I've not noticed any great difference in the past.

Good luck finding it. I hope you'll post it when you've got it sussed.

    Cheers for the comment.

  • It's me again; I'll be here all day hitting replay. I just can't get enough!

    cheers

    julie

  • Hi Jim! You mentioned you recently posted a new song. HOW in the world did I miss this! I'm at a loss for words because new postings usually show up. This is the best cover of JM I've EVER heard! I'm truly in awe of your performance. Thank you for posting; this is BRILLIANT my friend.

    cheers

    julie

  • And I think this is probably the best COMMENT I've ever had. :):)

Though the next one's pretty good too!

    Thanks.

  • Excellent! I really like the blend of voice and guitar. 5*

  • Thanks

  • Great stuff. What are the chords?

  • Errm... you know I have to admit, I don't really know!! It is a rather unusual tuning and, having got that I just worked out the fingering from JM's OGWT performance. Sorry to expose my ignorance. Perhaps someone else can tell us..?

  • Brilliant, as usual Wag. 5*

  • Cheers Tom.

  • Ha ha wish i could look thinner too, but I use Sony Vegas 7. Sounds very groovy. you played it very rythmical and effortless it seams. Different chords and fingerstyle. Innovative style. Is that a yamaha?

  • Hey. Thanks for the comment. Innovative yes but the credit for that has to go to Mr Martyn. I merely do my best to copy - always a losing battle!

It's a tanglewood by the way.
