I always have to give a thumbs down to Chubby's re-records, like this one. This is not his original recording. This is a re-record from the mid 70's. Defintely inferior to the original, and not the familiar version.
@xpro117 but hey I do agree with you when you stated that electronic music was and is this generations music.. no doubt about it I happen to like trance and progressive very much.. :) so your only half wrong "in my opinion" lol I'm pulling your leg.. Be a smart kid not a smart aleck. Have respect for people and always find the good lol word to your mother man :)
@Xpro117 do yourself a favor and stop arguing with your elders kid.. You should learn a two or thing about respect I believe a woman by the name of Aretha Franklin could teach you a thing or two about it.. Oh wait you wouldn't care would you? Pick your battles kid....
I just love Rock 'n' Roll!! ^^ I'm not even from the U.S.A! I'm from Puerto Rico... And all this rap things and pop is nothing compared to good this music!! (Correct me if I'm wrong. If it's not rock'n'roll Im sorry...) I love this ^^ I AM GONNA START TO LEARN HOW TO DO THE TWIST!! >:D
@traxxas1232 Carefree? For rich white folks in the United States maybe. Many black people in the U.S were still struggling. Not to mention the Cold War paranoia. Any day a complete a-hole like McArthy could come along accuse you of being a commie or commie sympathizer and ruin your career and your life and still that was far less terrifying than the thought of a civilization-raping nuclear WWIII breaking out because of Soviet expansionism.
good old days when music really meant something, people could just dance and have fun no matter what was goin on. care free, nowadays.... you have to fill out a text book of papers just to have fun haha
i agree with most everyone on here. fabulous song... i wish like school dances would play this these days. do you know how cool it would be if everyone danced like that again?? great song.. except the video kinda creeps me out.
It never ceases to amaze me how many young people are dissatisfied with the music of their times. There has to be some good music out there still being made; I guess it isn't mainstream and is what would be called underground. Also the ability to access the music of the past makes the inevitable comparison to music of the present, something that wasn't possible back in the 50's and 60's. The music of the 1920's was unavailable to us.
Anyway enjoy the 50's > 70's It was a great time ;)
I am embarrased to say that i go to the school i go to. because when the talent show happened about half of the school either danced or sang to this modern day crap. i wish my school would play some good ol songs. The 50's and the 60's were and are still the best era's of anything. ecspecially music and cars. sorry about spelling errors im only 12.
@bblackzero3 Hey, nobody spells perfect. So do this. Use that flashlynx downloader and copy a bunch of this '56 - '65 stuff. Make 3 files of 12 apiece. Burn nto a DVD, have sme friends over and play it for them. You might be able to start something. right now you kids are being robbed of what is real music. More like a gear reduction unit that has run out of oil.. is what you are being fed instead
@skaha77 What you think is real music may not be music to someone else. I enjoy all kinds of music... I recently have been enjoying techno music. Face it electronic music is going to be the music of the next generation. New types of music come and go, so there is no such thing as real music... its just an opinion.
@xpro117 Your last line gives you away. WHERE did you hear THAT?? Do yourself a favor: Quit Philosophy 100 and take business math 110. That said, there are people who call death metal 'music. It isn't
@skaha77 Google it...do whatever, WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHERE DID YOU HEAR THAT. And yes it can be music to some people, if it isn't why is this music (The Twist) almost never listened to anymore, but death metal is listened to quite a bit nowadays. Bro your comebacks suck... Do YOUR self a favor and except that you are some guy in his late twenties arguing with a 15 year old about what "real" music is and getting his ass kicked.
@xpro117 That's quite amusing. Me in my late 20's. In 1972 Alice Cooper released a song titled 'School's Out' . that same year I watched Canada beat Russia in what is the most famour hockey series ever played; outside the Stanley cup. when John F Kennedy was assassinated; I was in a first year History class. As for arguing with a teenager.. and getting my arse kicked. Your line 'just an opinion' is from the new age philospohy being foisted on kids this last deacde. It I.D's you
@xpro117 ... and you don't know what real music is. As for my 'sucky' comebacks; I honestly don''t care .. OBTW I was born the same year they dropped the two bombs on Japan
I may only be 15, but at least I enjoy good music when I see it. That rap stuff is just flat out terrible.. I don't see how people can dance to it. This you can...
Love this song. I wish we had songs like this playing in the clubs. I would have so much more fun then listening that rap crap. This is stuff you can actually dance to. Most people my age would agree but whatever I don't care. I know I am gonna get asked so I am gonna say it now. I am 24.
@Zjinks1 That's awesome. I think it's cool when kids love this kind of music. Even cooler when they can dance to it. I do alot of stuff at my local performing arts theatre and when this song comes on the radio all the people who grew up when this song came out where surprised I could dance to it.
@Gothicvampyressgwen1 im only 14 and i agree with you. rap, pop, hip-hop, its all retarded crap thats not even good. todays singers use altered recording of their voice and get rich. its awful.
@SuperLegopants Yep. I agree hun. Some of today's music is okay but after the 70's it started going downhill. Some 80's music is okay but only Prince,Michael jackson and some rock.
Chubby Checker's music was so likeable that it shattered racial barriers at a time in this country's history when segregation was the RULE. Now that's POWERFUL!!
A singer name Hank Ballard of Hank Ballard and the Mdiniters wrote and recorded the twist first. If you listen to his version, Chubby sang it just about note for note. Both had similiar voices. Because of the politics in those days Hank Ballard's version did not do much; maybe the timing was wrong. Chubby picked it up later, and the song took off with the involvement of Dick Clark (politics) from my research. I belive Hank sung the song in 1958 or 59. Check Hank out on Youtube.
@stevensph haha i read about this in uncle johns bathroom reader[no not just for the bathroom!] but i was pretty shocked, i always thought it was an original!
@farazshaikh On facebook, there is a group called Golden Tunes - Sound of Oldies, look it up in the facebook search. They put up like 6 or so songs a day. theres already about 200 up there.
The classic intro! The snare drum immediately followed by the sax. Truly music to my ears. Even though this was his only real big hit, still his influence was huge, and it's odd that he isn't in the R and R Hall of Fame. Saw him interviewed recently on a program from N. Y. called "Profiles," hosted by MIckey Burns. He's clearly not happy about it either. He said that Dick Clark has never invited him to events he's hosted over the years. How come? He's about as r n r as you can get!
The Twist - Chubby Checker [Philadelphia, Pennsylvania] - No.01 on 8/8//1960. 15 weeks Top 40. - "Gold hit. AMG Pick. ...his most famous hit, 'The Twist,' remains the yardstick against which all subsequent dancefloor phenomena are measured. Written by Hank Ballard in 1959 that made the charts at number 16." - Cameo Parkway 1957-1967 [Box Set, Original Recording Remastered] (ABKCO)-2005.
The twist is turning 50 in September. Chubby is turning 69 October 3rd and still going strong. What does that tell you? Rock and roll keeps you young. Keep twistin America!
@111Chance EXACTLY!! I just don't understand why, for one anyone would wanna listen to something they cant even understand, and two, me being a christian, I really hate how it cusses, but everyone seems to love it..... I just think it's stupid!
@Shadowlord316 Comparing a single song to an entire genre of music in a sweeping general statement is pretty worthless. Both of Chubby Checker's top hits ("(Let's) Twist Again", and "The Twist") are pretty one dimensional (the same dance and same time signature). He has a medium vocal range, the instrumentation is rudimentary with almost 0 change ups, the lyricism is mediocre (this and twist - monosyllabic slant rhyme.) and lacks creativity. This = 50's version of LFO. I still love it, though.
@MewGirl12345 hey um well accualy I knew a 4th grader that did the Twist today on her Talent Show... It's coming on my YouTube channel by Tommorow Morning!
I am coming back for more soon...excellent post, my friend..♥ Thank you, Mr. Chubby Checkers for the years of great times and twistin' ..what memories♥ You go, Ron!!
I always have to give a thumbs down to Chubby's re-records, like this one. This is not his original recording. This is a re-record from the mid 70's. Defintely inferior to the original, and not the familiar version.
