I'm swedish, so i obviously don't have the same ear for english accents any native would. and i /can/ tell when somebody is irish. it's just that sometimes their accents sound strikingly similar to a standard american one. why is that really? he can sound so american at times until he says something that sounds really irish haha. also, he is brilliant. needed to be said.

I met him today in a corner shop near to ITV in London. At first I was not sure if it was him - so I asked his friend if it was him when Andrew was checking out the magazines stand - and then he confirmed it was Andrew. Then Andrew, obviously hearing my question, turned to look at us and smiled at me saying simply: You're right mate? I replied and quickly added how I love his Moriarty character, Andrew smiled again, thanked politely and off they went...

That event made my day guys!

Hey that accent is 100% south side of Dublin. All the south aiders sound like that. North side dubs sound completely different! Here in Ireland we consider that southside accent posh!

Lengthy GOOGLEs produced endless write ups on Sherlock (and welll derserved they were!) but all I wanted was a 'run-of-the-mill' cast list. Hey ho, got here eventually. I know he is Irish but his accent seems a little subtle compared to most people's accents in Dublin ! His accent is fantastic... ! in the show it sounds a little american at times, other times very irish (emphasising words 'burn' heart')
