Well, this isn't really a review, more like an Unboxing and Overview. Check back at 4:26 in this video, click on the annotation, and watch that video to see for yourself. That SHOULD answer your second question.
As for your first question, YES, you do have to take off the side fan, sadly.
That's weird...it should fit in most mid-tower cases. I don't have this case (or the cooler) anymore, but it's an XClio A380BK full tower.
I know the coolit fit in a Lian-li midtower before though, and it also fit on my coolermaster storm scout before it ruptured and spilled liquid all over my hardware.
I already mentioned this on the video, but I know I tend to talk a lot...but you can replace it with ANY 120mm fan as long as it uses a 3-pin connector (like those connectors on a motherboard).
I'm going to be honest...this cooling unit was bad. It is not idiot-proof as I originally thought. My cheap Zerotherm air cooler beats it by about 60 percent (by finding out their temperature Delta). Look at the description and watch the video link posted there to see what I mean.
Also, if you haven't done so already, watch the video response to this one to see HOW to replace the fan.
For the record, I no longer have this unit as the pipe broke and leaked liquid all over my stuff...I'm never buying this again and I honestly wouldn't recommend it, but maybe you have much better luck than I do.
Errrmm...dunno exactly what you mean, but to remove the cooler you have to:
*Remove the screws from the rear fan
*Loosen the screws on the processor block restrainer and remove the cooling unit
*And if you're replacing the cooler with another one, you might have to remove the backplate on the back of the motherboard, which is a pain in the arse if you used its thermal tape...it really sticks!
Oh...well then in that case all you relly have to do is unscrew the heatsink the computer comes with, and if it has a duct or fan of some sort attached to the side or the back, unscrew those, then replace it with a new cooler
One thing you will probably begin to hate about this cooler is the fan...it might be too loud for your liking.
If you wanna change it, I just made a video on how to do this. I'll try and make it a video response to the other Coolit vid I did, or just find it on my channel.
And yeah my cables were a mess here, but I managed to find me some really big zip ties and tidied up a bit. But the only way I can completely clean the clutter in my case is to drill some holes for my SATA cables and stuff.
do you like that case....because i need to buy a bigger case that has good airflow for under 120 and on newegg this case is about 120 ish on Newegg.....is this one big and have good airflow because i see that it has 2 250mm fans so i would expect it too.....
I like the case, but there's a few flaws about it:
*Not much to work with when it comes to cable management: There are no holes in the back or on the mobo tray where I can route the PSU cables around for less clutter.
*I personally don't like the fans that this case came with because they're too weak. Then again, Im more of an airflow guy, so I don't care too much about noise (watch my featured vid on my channel and see what i mean).
*The USB ports are placed in a bad spot: on the top.
But other than that this case has planty of room for huge graphics cards and the such. The only thing is that if you're installing a big heatsink for the CPU (such as the TRUE), you're gonna have to remove the big fan on the side in order for it to fit and close the case panel.
Take a few hours to go ahead and rewire your station - unplug your wires and go from the top down with zip ties and this will allow you to reroute much of that rat's nest ;)
I did it and well now air flow isn't a problem any longer and the case is clean.
I realized that, and this might be just another excuse, but I am lacking in tools and the time to actually pull off the type of cable management I want to do. I'd love to work with a dremel and drill, but I don't have such equipment, and since I currently live in a dorm, doing that type of work would drive everybody mad. Is this the best I could do, you ask? Probably not. I'm still in the learning process as well.
Hey, it's cool, Im a n00b too when it comes to watercooling.
I've had this for almost a month, and you can be rest assured that this thing will NOT leak at all. The tubes in this thing are like custom fitted and no matter how hard you try to take them out....they won't come out...trust me, I tried. I have a full tower: an XCLio A380BK, and that thing is HUGE and I still had to take off the side fan. If you have a good case like a Lian-li, or even an Antec 900, I'm sure it will fit fine though.
I dunnoe if u have heard of the PC case call broston? or brosten, Wadever... T.T
well, thats my case. can it fit? oh ya, my side panel is transparent and can fit a large and small fan on it. so tat means i have to remove the top fan which is my large fan?
Never heard of that case before...and google isn't helping either :(
But as long as your case is about 20mm wide (or 8 inches), you'll be fine. If your side fans and CPU heatsink is really close to your top fan, I really doubt you'll have to remove it unless your top fan is extremely thick.
Trust me, this thing is not as big as some people make it out to be. If it can fit in a Lian-li, it can fit almost anywhere...unless you have a Micro-ATX, LAN party case, or some OEM case.
Ok. Maybe i will give it a shot. But just one last question, compare to the Intel fan that comes with the processor, does it make a difference in the temperature? cause some of my friends in school told me that it make not much diff. Please reply this... T.T
Haven't really tried the stock cooler with this quad core. But I remember the 1st time I used a stock cooler on a Dual Core Processor, I got around the same temperatures I get now at STOCK speeds. At stock I get idle temps around 35-ish or so and at load around the 50's. In my case, I have my Quad Overclocked with a bit of high voltage, and Im getting around the same temperatures, but it makes quite a big difference because Im getting the same temps, but with faster clock speeds.
If I were to run my quad at stock speeds with this cooler, my idle temps would be close to room temperature...around 26 or so degrees Celsius (compared with mid 30's with stock cooler), and about the mid 30's or low 40's under full load (compared to the mid 50's under load).
I too am planning to get that same cooler (Coolit Domino ALC) and have been trying to look for user reviews. Thanks for sharing with us :) low 40s at full load is considered good. Almost too good to be true considering its a compact on-the-fly Watercooling system. What CPU clock speeds did you overclock to? (At what temps idle/full load)
As of now my Quad Core Speed is now at 3.15GHz with VCore of 1.5375V set in BIOS, however my motherboard has a serious VDroop issue so at full load it goes down to 1.50V (which is the recommended max at Intel's website anyway). With 2 9800GTX's in SLI and an 8800GT running PhySX, all of them running Folding@Home 24/7, the temps do tend to rise quite a bit. Running both a CPU client and 3 GPU clients, my CPU sits now with temps of 62 60 57 60 under load.
When I run Prime95 for a while, without running folding@Home clients, the max I got with the same CPU overclock and VCore were 65 65 60 60.
In my opinion, is it the best cooler in the world? Probably not, even when I took out the original fan from the radiator and put in 2 ultra kazes in there for better airflow. Unfortunately you can't rip off the original fan because it is soldered right into the temperature PCB.
If you have an OEM computer or case, say like from eMachines, Dell, or Compaq, then forget it, this will not fit...I'm just trying to give you a good idea that you'll be safe to fit this even on a good mid-tower. I have a q6600 OCed to 3.15GHz with about 1.53V VCore and idle temps with Realtemp are between 34-38 across all cores. Right now Im running folding@Home and the Max I've ever gotten was 56 54 50 54...all in degrees C. Room temp about 23C.
what temps you getting load and idle? also what cpu you have? im want to get into watercooling and this seems like a good choice for first watercooling system
Using Realtemp on my Q6600 G0 I see idle temps of around 37C on all cores (It's OCed to 3.15GHz with a bad mobo that requires a murderous amount of VCore of 1.5V...I also have 2 9800GTX's and an 8600GTS for a physics card running, so that helps on temps too). On load it barely tips over 60C on all cores.
cpu temps idle and max pls

@oscar7610 :
*Check "Coolit Domino vs Cheap Air Cooler" Video "pls".
*Better don't even bother buying this crap "pls".
*This unit's pipe broke and spilled liquid on my expensive equipment "pls".
*Might as well spend your money on a Noctua NH-D14 "pls".
*I have a Prolimatech Megahalems CPU Cooler which is ages better than this thing "pls".
I think you get the idea now. Either go for the ECO or a Prolimatech, Noctua, or Thermalright CPU cooler. This unit is old and worthless.

hey how are?
well tanks for the review
im kinda interested in this water cooler
but i got maybe 2 questions....
i have the same case
(weird i know)
do u have to take off the 250m fan off to fit the cooler?
second will this cooler cool down a AMD Phenom II X4 945
tanks will be so kind to hear back

soma1509 2 years ago
Thanks for the help. I just have one more question. What can i use to attach the backplate to the processor?
CheatEnginer 2 years ago
This cooler comes with its own backplate...as a matter of fact it comes with 3...
Depending on what type of processor you have, use the proper one.
If you have an i7 processor, use the 1366 backplate (the "X" silver-looking one)
If you have a LGA775 processor, use the black hard plastic one,
If you have an AMD processor, use the square-ish silver-looking one.
In order to make it "stick" to the back of the motherboard, you can use the thermal tape it comes with to make it easier.
