This song is like the soundtrack to my last relationship... It hits how I feel about that mistake... Great song and I made a huge mistake... never again :D
Vale a pena conferir!!!
This reminds me of my youth! I was a Monkee nut, went to see them in 1967 at Wembley but because of the continual screaming couldn't hear a thing!! In 1980s saw them in my local Theatre in Bristol minus Nesmith and they were BRILLIANT, who says they cant play? Tork sat at the organ by himself with just a light on him and played Vidor's Tocata.....EXCELLENT.
@Yolahnita HA...yeah those were pretty freaky/interesting times! I was only 5 or 6 when The Monkees were on TV, but I had to watch them every Fri night at 8:00. Dad didn't like them because of their clothes and the "long hair." But he still (reluctantly)allowed me to watch the show.
I'm 35 and grew up on The Monkees. It was thanks to reading the liner notes on Monkees tapes (yes, audio tapes) that I was introduced to The Beatles. And I always adored the old stock footage in this promo (video).
It almost looks as if they are actually playing live, and not miming that. What; with the speakers placed there. Mitigating against this is the lack of a guitar lead with Mike Nesmith, and no mirophone for Mickey Dolenz. But let it be understood that, nevertheless, Mike Nesmith was actually one of the most accopmplished guitarists of his era. He could really go on a guitar. He was no sham, no fake. Proficient songwriter, too, as it turns out later.

Hope you all know the Monkees did not play the music on this or any of their first album songs. Boyce and Hart the writers of the music had a band called "the Candy Store Prophets". They cut all these songs. My best friend from 1975 to his untimely death in 2005, was Billy Lewis, the drummer. He told me many stories at camp fires we shared over the years about the recording sessions, concerts, etc. he played with Boyce and Hart. This was one of the songs he played on.
This is my favorite Monkees tune.I bought ALL the records, was age 12 when they were on the air,but it was NOT COOL to play them in your car 8track later,haha...but now at 55 I am digging them again with some great vids to boot,on Utube.
I've always heard that Micky wore a wig the first season, but I never believed it- I thought they just straightened his hair before each episode. And here it looks very natural- is it???
Bert & Ray really should have kept the original elements of these music videos so they could have the stuff needed to do a proper music video DVD today. I think the lost footage from the series is nearly criminal. Where are all the stereo tapes of Stu Phillips' incidental music too? Frustrating.
My 8 year old asked me how old Davy was. I told her that he was old like me. She started to cry. Poor baby had a little crush on him. Aaaaah I think Davy broke a lot of hearts. I still have a crush on him! ;)
I love the style they carried out and they are really fantastic and full of positive energy for young people who learnt ethics in the sixties. We have lo learn so much! We don´t have to lose values!
This is one of my most favorite songs from the Monkees , And I'm 19 . Always one of my top songs i hear most often in my ipod. I love watching the show that they still put on Tv every weekend. Everytime i listen to this song , I'm dying to know the notes for the keyboard solo. Does anyone know the notes for it?
You gotta check out the Liverpool Five tune "She's" on U Tube. Boyce and Hart had heard that and wrote a different tune with almost the same title. The Monkees recorded in the same studio as the LP5 ( RCA in LA) and also that's where they first heard " I'm not your stepping stone" and decided to do their own version.
hahaha - I can still see my 33 year old at age 11 standing on the coffee table with a hairbrush lip singing along with this! I raised my kids on the Monkees music and TV show and none of them ended up in prison or selling drugs. lol
I like to believe The Monkees music has that kind of power. The music of today is too violent and hateful, sends out the wrong messages. This music was good and pure.
@Kisha1976 ...Yeah I know..."The Girl I Knew Somewhere" is a brilliant song ...made even more brilliant by Peter's musical talent on that harpsichord!! -- Can you tell he's my favourite Monkee??!! (hence my rather naughty screen name - hee hee)
