for me (as an austrian) it's actually insulting to affirm that austria is a part of germany. it's not: 2 different, independent countries. please don't confuse that, thanks.
Wonderful singing! the German language is very good for singing, but please this is not a song it is a 'Christmas carol' Though it is German it sounds very good in German English or French. This carol is a great gift from Germany to us all!
It is arguably the most famous German Christmas song of all time. Although the author was Austrian by today's boundaries, the language is still German and in 1818 was part of the German Confederation.
I'm a German living in Toronto and I'm so honoured to be able to share these beautiful German Christmas songs with everyone. I wish everyone a very happy Christmas. Enjoy each other, your families, the fun the children, the food and most of all, the SPIRIT OF CHRISTMAS! Be happy with what you have and love each other. Merry Christmas! Erika
What an absolutely magical song! It brings me back to Germany when I was a small girl and we walked to the church in the village on Christmas Eve and sang some beautiful Christmas songs and listened to the choir singing. It was so holy and beautiful! I miss it!
Excellent rendition and beautiful music, but it would have helped if the audio quality could have been better. Overall though, it's great! Thanks for posting!
@mcmurphykopfbahnhof You are right it was written in Austria and in German. But who cares i think u Could see our Countries like "brothers" long time ago we where one Nation, the stupid wars splited us we are speaking the same language and that should be enough. Also this song is about the spirit of Christmas, so don't fight about it!
You should see it like this. ITS ORIGINALLY IN GERMAN, SO ITS NOT A ENGLISH SONG ! ;D
@Eyesopen91 Precis! :-)

OK, it was written on the Austrian side of the border in the language commonly spoken there, which is German. No need to split hairs over the issue.

@mcmurphykopfbahnhof I am aware of that. It is commonly sung in German though, which was my point.
