  • Best rendition I've heard on youtube :D

  • fine playing fellow gnossiennist!

Great rubato too, an example for me to learn from.

  • woohoo!! great! tana nana tanana! :)

  • Ive watched a lot of videos of this particular peice and yours is by far best of all. The ending is what sets yours apart from the rest.

  • mmm, it's lovely! i play this gnosienne too, and i must say that you rendered it quite perfectly! the tempo, the expression, the pedal! and it's true, people often plays it too fast, yours is just the rythm speed, i loved it! thanks!

  • so great. congratulations. many sensibility...thanks for you interpretation..

  • @gdan666666

Thank you so much - I have just been playing my piano to accompany you and your direction got me over the tricky left hand ritmo I was tres perdu. I love what you do with postulez en vous-meme y pas a pas. It sounds refreshingly new and ligera. Bello.

  • Stunning renditon! thankyou for sharing, I love Satie, the complexity lies in its simplicity. bravo!

  • man, on my piano that low B just disappears. Oh well.

  • Huge congratulations to you for being the only performer I could find on Youtube who knows the right pace and tempo to play this piece. Even most of the famous concert pianist are playing it way too fast, it loses its power and emotional heft that way...

  • *****

  • love it! and second previous comment :D

  • creepy!!!

  • Gave me the shivers, amazing.

  • You play this piece of history in a wonderful way, slow and kind, also kind of unique.

Love the way you play the piano!

  • Maravilhoso...

Amo Erik Satie. Quando "o ouço" sinto-me nas nuvens.

E você gdan666666, consegue transmitir a mesma emoção... Para mim, é a melhor apresentação do Gnossienne nº1

  • mmm, you have a very amazing cadence and attack notes in the right way, very few have that articulation, I am sure that you can be a very good pianist, your technique although need lots of work, practice more and probably consider conservatory. You have potential.

eww but I didn't like the ending at all, dude, it is not Chopin you know...

  • @SophosVII in some part i dont agree with you. thats true its not chopin and it is a very subtle piece. but he adds his own way of playing and character at the end, which is pretty good i believe.

  • ottima interpretazione, complimenti

  • So beautiful

    Magnifique♥

  • this is lovely. and i think you have beautiful hands

  • This version captures Satie's eeriness and more!

  • piano is fun and peacfull at the same time eh people! :)

  • I don't play any instrument, I only have turntables for DJ and I am a true soul funk disco addict....but I think piano is the greatest instrument ever because you can play ALL kind of music, sad one, happy one, even fun one, you can do all styles like jazz, funk, classic, etc....I also like guitar and violin, those are one of Man's greatest inventions...

this was my point of view..

    what is yours ? ^^

    - a melody addict -

  • omg i love how u added the high noted to the whole song ! ^^ good work !

  • uf, you got me all sweaty, I'm taking my clothes off.

music is a beautiful thing, but watching me hear it...

  • That's the first time my playing has had such an effect on someone. At least to my knowledge.

I suppose it can't be a bad thing.

  • just don't go around doing concerts, and everything will be alright...

  • Wow! Your phrasing & dynamics is wonderful. I play this piece also so I know it well. Your rendition is the best I've heard on YouTube. When I get around to uploading my videos, I hope you will critique my playing.

  • Thanks very much.

I'm no expert, but when you do upload your videos let me know and I'll be happy to tell you what I think.

  • @usedtoskiwv I agree! Great phrasing & dynamics! :)

gdan, This makes me want to start practicing again.

  • Excellent!!!!!

  • BeaUtIful! The best of satie on you tube.

  • Simply sublime... I would like to listen to your interpretation of my favorite composer Erick Satie's "Gymnopedies no 1. You tyruly played this piece eloquently!

  • I've just started learning this on piano - and yours is the best version I've heard so far. Well done, I love your original ending.

  • i only play by ear atm, make's me want to take lesson's listening to u =))))))))

  • Thanks...nice interpretation.

  • WOW

  • Beautiful piece of music I could listen to it over and over again

  • wow i enjoy the unique ending! very nice job but a bit slow at times

  • I would like to thank you for posting this.last year I was going through really rough time around these days. I was listening only your play throughout my hard times. maybe 30-40 times a day. I was just remembering those days and your play and video come to my mind.

So far you have been the most extraordinary player of this beautiful piece. There is so much character that you put on. As well as the balanced and organized rhythm.

    Again, thank you very much..

  • The best interpretation of this song on Youtube. A melhor interpretação desta música no Youtube!

  • Along with Gymnopedie, Gnossienne is a work of art, and you've definitely done it justice

  • You must be very sensible person, because your playing is... I think, you understand the song and you understand, what Santie wanted to say. Maybe the best interpretation of this song on Youtube. You are talented. Thank you.

  • Thank you very much. I can't say I ever researched Satie's reasoning behind the peice. It's hard to explain, but I pretty much knew how I thought it should be played the moment I heard the song.

There are still parts in that performance I'm not happy with, but it gets the idea across.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • Do you play from the sheets, or by listening?

  • Neither actually. I used to play by listening, but when I had a piano teacher he'd teach me from the sheet music. So he'd basically show me what notes to play, which was quite a long process.

  • Did you ever compose some piece?

  • Yeah, that's pretty much all I do on piano now.

  • PERFECT

  • La plus belle version entendue sur YouTube. Simplement merci...

  • all this on an EP...i'm wowed!

  • Wow, friend. This is one of my top 5 Satie pieces. Fantastic interpretation. The improvisations you took at the end show your fingerprints and that they are most profound. Satie would be pleased. Bravo!

  • Thanks a lot, to please such an incredible composer with playing his own peice would be quite incredible.

  • that was beautifully played

  • This is definitely the best version of this composition on youtube. You play it very beautifully. Thank you.

  • Dude I just love this..To me this is one of the best versions of No 1, especially love the thing you do at the end. I checked your profile and watched other 5 posts, pls keep posting more when you have the time. Cheers!

  • word up

  • i like this. thank you for making it and uploading it, and thanks for youyube and google. thanks for all the little people. thanks for the source of life.

  • gdan... What EP are you playing on?

    Great work...

    N.

  • CVP-203.. whatever that means.

    Oh, and thanks.

  • ALL the notes :p ..are they so many ?? well i don't wanna bother you...just well done for these arrangements because with them the pice just became wonderful !! i really love it now ...better than before!

  • well...WELL Done because I love it...isn't possible to get the keys ?? :$

  • You want me to tell you all the notes? I'm afraid I don't even remember myself.

  • hello! i'm playing this piece for an exam but the problem is that i don't have the complete sheet...i don't have all you're playing at the end !...is it the original version ??

  • The bit at the end is just made up.

  • i am haunted by this peice.

    Amazing

  • Wonderful, Evocative, Dark... I can play this piece but could only hope to play with such depth and emotion, truly lovely...

What EP are you playing on? Excellent dynamics specially with the low notes...

  • oui!

    kheloui de chez satie

  • There's melancholy in your interpretation. Were you sad, heartbroken, missing somebody or in love with someone when you played this?

  • I'm generally down-beat, so perhaps that's it.

This interperation did come very naturally.

  • wow

    i love it

  • Parfait. Great timing, touch, volume-everything. Everybody tries to play this song fast and it drives me crazy. Most people follow sheet music TOO closely.

  • Just wonderful!

    Thank you!

    Gina

  • i keep asking for sheet music to this, but never get any*. Beautiful piece.

*"not get any" isn't a weird innuendo.

  • That didn't even enter into my mind until you mentioned it. Don't worry, I'm not getting much either.

I'm afraid I don't even have the sheet music for this.

    Thanks for your comment Laurie.

  • This is a beautiful interpretation. Especially around the :58 mark. I've never heard it played quite like that.

  • this music makes me feel sad... but alive... is wonderfull...

  • Your ending is a very nice touch.

  • Best interpretation on youtube, anyone seen the painted veil?

  • wow excellent keep it up

  • Brilliant!

  • you are the only one on here that has played this song with some sense of style. bravo.

  • I could kill for tihs song!!! It is beautiful!!! I firs heard it while I was watching Poirot - Five little pigs! Since then I was looking for it and for so long I couldn't find it, and now it's there!!! I can't believe it!!! beautifull!!!

  • LOLz.

Yeah; Poirot - me too and I too was looking for it for what seemed ages.

So haunting; so enigmatic ... so Satie.

  • A wonderful piece !

  • nice playing

did you happen to make any changes to the piece? the ending sounds different compared to the original ending. did you play an octave higher?

    it sounds great nevertheless

  • Umm. I just played octaves in the right hand for the ending.

  • do you happen to have the sheet music for this song?

  • Afraid not.. sorry.

  • like the original*

  • i think your interpretation of this song is the best on youtube =) it sounds exactly like t

  • Awesome.

How does it feel to play?

  • I like very much your interpretation of this piece of Satie... it escapes and the feelings invade me when I listen to you to play. I play it too but not as you... it gives me the idea now to play it as it french we say "à ma sauce" Very good! thank you...

  • flirty...Dramatic, Seductiv, pantomime...Have seen Tiger lilies?...Left hand is confident! Right hand is a lil tart! Playin with our emotionz! HARD soft...Tears of joy, tears of sad.

  • Deep, watery. Excellent

  • i love this piece u played it so beautiful...

  • I like this interpretation very much - specifically the new ornaments at the end :) The keyboard sounds great - I thought it was a piano.

  • Congratulations! You have expressed more feeling in this piece more than anything else I've heard on Tube of Satie's music, although the quality of sound is terrible :-(

Have you heard Klara Kormendi's version of Gnossienne 1? She is professional of course, but has produced the best interpretation of his work so far, in my opinion. Good work qdan666666!

  • Satie's critics said of him that he composed the way he did cos he couldn't play.

I reckon he composed the way he did cos he was in another zone.

You found and felt the zone in this one.

Cleverly done and ... well captured. :)

  • wonderfull piece of work... really great! if it's possible can I learn the name and the model of the keyboard please?

  • very nice. I also liked the angle of the camera :D. I would very much love an audio recording of you playing this, if you have one. Get back to me okay? :D

    - Sarah

  • Very nice !!! Can you do the other gnossiennes ?

  • Unfortunately I don't know any of the others. I can't read music so learning a piano piece can be a long process. Because of this I can't learn all the pieces I would like, otherwise I would definitely learn more of the Gnossiennes.

    Thanks for your comment.

  • wow, such a daring interpretation of gnossienne. I really liked it though. Takes alot of nerve to play it as well as you did, most people can't seem to grasp the idea that you have to VARY THE TEMPO.....urrrggh!

  • that was beautiful
