Had this album. The original let one of my friends get it and never seen it since. Needs to be reissued along with all the 12 inch versions and B sides that Prince and his Proteges put out.
@troyboy7962 I think so. But it is not the easeiest CD to find. I've seen advertising for it some times but I don't need it. I've got it in the old fashion way. On LP...
i am 45. to find the family again is super fine. prince fucking rules! met a little hottie yesterday at a function here in chucktown! she is from minni funk town! and all of 22! i am attached to my girl.....she was hot!
I'm 41-years-old and from South Los Angeles. I'm a huge admirer of this band and other during that time period i.e. Mazarati, Tamara and the Seen, etc.!
@dulaone This album originally, pretty much every song had Prince's vocals instead. So you can call it a Prince album. ANd yes, from this sound which was moving onto a more organic, jazz-like sound. Its got everything, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Classical touches! But not as cold or electronic like Prince's earlier 1999, Purple Rain sound. Thus, for Crystal Ball, some songs do have this sort of sound. Expert Lover, Crystal Ball, etc. reflect this sound.
thanks a bunch, you've answered a lot of questions. I always been a fan of Prince but sonicly my favorite sound from him has to be the Under The Cherry Moon/Madhouse era-not forgetting to mention the the first 3 Sheila e albums including her self titled 3rd LP
are there any more Prince projects that reflected that genre/era?
@dulaone Well pretty much almost everything from that period I think. Perhaps Wendy & Lisa's first album on Columbia. Self-titled. It had that fusion of Pop, Funk and L.A. Jazz. Mazarati was a bit harder... Jill Jones solo was a culmination of Purple Rain outtakes and a few songs have a more drum machine Parade driven sound like Violet Blue.
Sheila's 1987 self-titled album definitely has The Dream Factory sound now that I remember! Songs like Love On Blue Train are straight off DF era sound!
@wendileona Actually that was St. Paul singing. Check out his solo albums and you can tell it's not Prince. He actually has a more soulful voice than Purple!
@dulaone Well to answer your question now that I'm looking at more comments, this certainly has the beginnings of The Dream Factory and Crystal Ball sound. In fact, now that I listen this and think of the actual song Crystal Ball, it does resemble its bounce and acoustic drum, almost timbale snare, even in tempo!
Marilyn from Bayside High School or was it Baysde Junior high..anyway class of 88 i think. Bad Ass Pretty little cute white girl. All she listened to was Prince and his protegees . Thats cool because thats all I listened too. I had a crush on you. Peace babygirl.
Nothing like vinyl! Man I'm trying to tell you CD's are cool but vinyl was and still is the shit if you have it.
