Alright-I give up-been bugging me for 40 years, what's so special on the other side of the Mersey? Prison, home for unwed mothers, go-cart track, disorderly house?

Saw Gerry and the Pacemakers live in Honolulu in 2005 on a triple bill, with Chad and Jeremy and Herman's Hermits. They were all fantastic, and Gerry shared great stories about the Beatles in the early days. Would have preferred this lineup during this year's Superbowl half-time, instead of the (barf) Blackeyed Peas.

I'm so glad I discovered this group yesterday. I really like this song, but I wish I knew about them sooner. I've been missing out on a lot of great musics back then. :)
My 16 year old son is always asking me what songs he can add to his Ipod. I told him add some Gerry and the Pacemakers, but he thinks they are "gay". Ahhh...the uninformed innocence of youth. These guys were great!
This a beautiful song about self-isolation and the acceptance of being distanced from loved ones...enjoying melancholy in peaceful and meaningful ways not easily understood by many.
soooo funny......little did they all know right then HUGE flow of music their country would produce inthe next 6 years...changing everything.......we created the whole scene of rock n roll...and england made it adult.
The British Invasion did change the world but the root of all there music came from the good old USA, and since you are old enough to know it was Groovy then to wear shades indoors,I think a couple of Americans gvave the Beatles a voice Like Elvis,Chuck Berry,And The Big O
this was the first song i ever remember....being the new english wave sound.... weeks way b4 the beatles. this and telestar cameout.......and we all went huh,...
I was born in 1957, and for some reason I remember this song, more than many of the others of the time in the 60's. I just loved it then, and still do now. It is so cool to see these guys performing, and the kids dancing to it.
my ear always thought this was the honed young voice of Nat King Cole- Kudos to Jerry -- how old are those kids in the audience now? to have danced within yards of the pacemakers what memories!!
Good song? Mate you need to listen carefully. I first heard this at 6 years old. Grew up with prog rock and fusion in the 70's. Played in Funk, Rock, Pop, Blues, New Wave and Electronic in varoius bands. Love to death Comp Jazz and Latin. Hate Scousers.....but.........this is a song that I love till this day. Listen to the vox melody and to his voice. Stunning.
Why does he have george harrissons 12 rickenbacker? Bcoz harrisson only had a concept guitar, and tey wernt produced as a whole till later on ? was the beatles on here at the ame time and lent it or summin ?
If it is the same guitar as George Harrison, it could be that George lent it to Gerry for the song. The Beatles and Gerry/Pacemakers were both managed by manager Brian Epstein. The Beatles were the 1st group and Gerry/Pacemakers were the 2nd group signed under Brian. Both groups shared the same manager.
Yeahh i knew the manager part, just didn click in my mind that it wud be georges :L well thanks forr letting me kno :D and thanks for the friend invite :D x
My buddies and I were only between 11 and 13 years old and this is what we listened to in Cardiff. Great times, the 60s. Yes, and I used to listen under the pillow too.
omg saunders49 you have me remembering having that transitor under my pillow while i was suppose to be asleep, so my parents wouldnt hear the radio, this song and dont let the sun. are the best, and takes me back to better times... ty
Along with Don't Let Sun Catch You Crying...my favoite Pacemaker song. They were managed by the great Brian Epstein..of Beatles fame. Brings back memories of having my transistor radio under my pillow late at night. The greatest music ever...the '60's! Oh to go back to those magical times just once more.
I have seen a live version of this from 1964. An very engaging performer. In any case, it's no surprise that his band was close on the heels of the The Beatles for about 4 years but, as Sir McCartney said, "They just had Gerry..."
They were a real class act.Showed us the British Invasion was really the great thing for music as it's proved out today.
