danny thompson rattles that double bass as if it was just a little guitar! really strong player. in fact, sometimes i feel his bass playing actually DROVE john martyns solid air.
I think that second camera is meant to be John's "POV" :) He'd apparently had at least a couple bottles worth of red wine before the set. Apparently they had all had a bit a drink before that set.
Nothing can touch the Pentangle. They are what has been so lacking in American music for decades. (With the exception of say Donovan and Joni Mitchell but then they are both imported musicians too!) I bought the Sweet Child double vinyl import LP in 1974 and still have it today, in near perfect condition. They still perform- See recent videos here in Youtube. *Read the Wikipedia chapter on the group.
@cosmiclight I like Pentangle but they are decades old so I don't know if you're referring to today's American music or it's past.......? Because you can say what you want about Pentangle's brilliance but America has given birth to some of the world's greatest artist and styles of music.
freaky mirror camera stuff. Maybe the acid wasn't stronger back then, just the special effects..check out the great orange amps and terry Cox's immaculate silver sparkle kit...timeless. Fucking amazing track!
Very nice to see this. I never saw the original version live, although I have seen later versions with Jacqui, Bert, and John, and once with Terry Cox as well. And Danny Thompson has been playing with Richard Thompson for many years so I've seen all the original members one way and another.
thanks for this, too bad bass is mixed so low. any idea of source/year. my guess would be '71. certainly one of the most underrated Pentangle tracks from easily the most underrated album, Reflection.
pentangle is jazz for my ears

the main guitar theme in this song is just a stoned version of a pre-LP Jansch instrumental called 'Joint Control'

The more I see and hear from the group, the more knocked out I am. Easy to see where the jazz influences come from in their other tunes...!!!

Well, really it's all jazz. Just imagine gypsy elves in a beat club and you've got Pentangle.

Wel, they're no If (the great British jazz band of the late 60s)
