this is probably the 20th or so time i have watched this and i absolutely love it. i am from kansas city so very familiar with shooting star and especially this song. i think you guys actually sound better live than they do. you really do this one right!
Wow, you guys are the real deal,,,,,again, wow, it's an honour to hear from you. I am proud to play your music, I grew up with your influence. We will continue to make you all very proud.
wow!!!i just got on here to look up my fave band from kc. and so cool to seee others appreciate them. 20 plus years ago i saw them at memorial hall kck and it changed my life seeing last chance. rich reedy
No matter how many times I see this I'm still impressed. I'm up in Toronto once or twice a year, I'll have to stop by and see you guys (since I usually get stuck in Detroit for 24 hours anyway!)
Wow, Im 42 been a Shooting Star fan for years your band is truely Incredible!! Cant get any closer then the record really like to see your band come to Michigan dont matter where its worth the drive to see your band. Thank you for the great video.
Fellas, I am quite impressed! I opened this vid half expecting some cheesy, wannabe, high-school garage band to start caterwauling at the top of their lungs; needless to say, I was treated to something MUCH more professional! Five (shooting ;)!) stars for a simply stellar performance!
But I have a question: is there any way you can get an orchestra to back you up in any future performances of this cover?
Exellent job 'Second Nature' band! Shout out from Detroit. I've seen these guys live. Anyone in the Windsor/Detroit area if you get the chance stop in whereever their playing, you def wanna check these guys out.
The last time I looked for the CD at Best Buy, they had it, but it was crazy-expensive. I'm sorry, I do not recall the original album title. I have a cassette copy of the tune somewhere. I was lucky to see Shooting Star perform Last Chance live when they opened for Survivor on the Vital Signs tour in '85. It was AWESOME!
Thanks for your review. The band really appreciates it. We decided when we started the band that we would not bow down to the norm of bar bands and play all the song we love. People like you make it seem all worth it.
Awesome! The guitarist could have bent a few notes just a smidge higher to put them in tune, but other than that, it was a fantastic performance. I grew up listening to Shooting Star, April Wine, BOC, etc while playing with my Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars. Last Chance is probably my all-time most favorite rock tune.
I think they were from Kansas City south. Anyway, they're disbanded from their original form. They used to do an annual Christmas show in town, not anymore though. I've heard the singer went to Oklahoma though.
Shawnee Mission, Ks. The original singer (Gary West) owns a radon detection company in the KC metro area. While the original band broke up, Van McClain (lead guitar,) Steve Thomas (drums) and Ron Verlin (bass) are still together as Shooting Star with a terrific new lead singer in Ronnie Platt. Violinist Shane Micheals and keyboard artist Dennis Laffoon round out the group. They released a CD this last year call Cirlces that is terrifc.
Nice job fellas!

And your drummer did a nice job substituting roto-toms for the timpani. (I'm assuming they're roto-toms)
Tarkus31 4 years ago
He wasnt using Roto-Toms that is an electric drum pad programmed with the Timbales! FYI
sugaray2112 4 years ago
Ok. He still did a great job!

Brilliant. Even in Shooting Star's home of Kansas City it's hard to find their albums, to say nothing of covers. Wonderful job.
