  • In response to the question from Paul30003 the Hilleberg Akto is a brilliant lightweight tent in high winds and driving rain, so ideal for the Lakes in winter. If it is snowing, you will need to keep clearing the roof of the tent, as a heavy snowfall might cause the ends to come in, but with care this is not a problem.

    Dawn

  • very good review - thanks

  • I've had this tent for quite a long time and never had a problem with the outer door. The trick is not to roll it up vertically, but sideways/diagonal.

  • I've been considering the TN laser comp and the Hilleburg Akto for a while now, your review has helped me almost to my decision. Just one question. Would this tent be suitable for all weather up on the hills of the Lake District ?

    Thanks

  • to hold the door open on mine i sewed and sealed a small length of flat nylon strap about a ten inches from the top end. works great, the door flap stays open and with the door closed the strap hangs inside and i use it to hang a candle lamp.

  • Which Welsh mountains are these ? Looks like the vale of Clwyd but I have a feeling it isn't

  • The review was filmed up on the Berwyns

  • @Trailtesters oh cool !

  • Excellent review. I like this tent a lot. Videos are so nice because you can actually see the product being used, and it makes it easier to decide whether to buy it or not. I've been looking for a tent like this. Thank you so much!

  • Great thanks. Going to check this tent out

  • @derfy26 The Akto has an inner tent, with floor and a fly which covers the porch, which has no floor. If you want to cover the porch area as well then you will need a footprint. We used our Akto in the mountains for a year on all sorts of surfaces without needing a footprint. Personal choice really.

  • This is the best Akto review I've found, thanks. I just bought my own, can't wait to test it.

  • The wind condition in this video was a big PLUS.

    Great review....great tent.

  • love at first use thanks trailtesters good review , the love intencified as the weather detorated !in per hour rain hi wind, pached up inside during rain / dry gear / pitch and break down in 7 mins or less , flawles put a small hle in the fly yellw materal diddent leak hilleberg sent me repair materal and silnet free of charge weather is no longer a factor in my travel evin the color is right the tent hides well homelessness is a real hazard thesedays u call hillberg the owner

  • thank you for that, very help full, top reviwe

  • bought one love it sometimes gotta wipe condensation but quite managable where im sleeping is dry and confortable and whan a big storm hits i know im gonna be just fine

  • please do a review on hilleberg soulo, i am very interested in it and would appreciate some professional opinions, thank you !!

  • Great video, I am about to purchase one AKTO also. Can you tell me what is the coldest weather you have used this tent in? Also have you used it in the snow?

  • I just got an Allak its amazing!!

  • excellent review thankyou, does ithave any cubby pockets? or somewhwere to hook a torch overhead?

  • The Akto has one minimal pocket inside the door on the left hand side. You can rig up a head torch to act as a tent light.

  • hi have you got the jannu yet...

  • The Jannu has just arrived and we hope to start using it shortly

  • Geodesic design has its cost: additional weight. What you see here is a 1.5kg(!) tent.

  • Great Video Review! Please do some more on Hilleberg tents,

esp Jannu/ / Allak etc and show more interior details...

    thankyou!!

  • Thanks for your comments, much appreciated.

We have a Jannu coming and are looking forward to reviewing it.

  • yes it was a good review, cant believe you picked up on the 1 thing i also dislike about it. Only thing i kinda disagree on is the pegs, you seemed to like them, i thought they were dreadful.

  • what a lovely review, very clear without dithering and repetition. well done and thank you. have you reviewed the golite hex 3 ?

  • We have a GoLite Hex3 in for review and would hope to feature that after Easter. Thanks for your comments. Glad you liked the review. I have just replaced the Akto with a Jannu.

    Dawn - Ed

  • Find it a little slower to erect than my old Vango Micro but much stronger material and more roomy. A tent you cannot cook in is not worth having, just take extra care.

Could do with improved high level venting in the outer tent as condensation is a problem when there is little wind a conditions are damp. Good test - cheers

  • Nice review I have the staika its great!

  • i agree the door on this tent is really very annoying !

especially with that kind of slippy material.

The tent is very easy to pack though due to the material.

you need to make sure the tent is setup taunt otherwise you'll get damp when the outter hits the inner tent.

Breathabililty i feel is a little overrated on this tent.

I'd have liked a couple of spare pegs thrown in too for the money but that's just my opinion

  • I own an Akto. Love it. I can set it up in the back of my FJ-80 Land Cruiser cargo compartment with all seats removed and it provides a privacy tent for road trips or urban stealth camping when you don't want to pay $150 for a one night's bed

  • Cooking inside the Akto? Hmm feels a wee bit dangerous to me. Great review otherwise!

  • Hi

The Akto has a 75cm deep porch, so cooking inside the tent is possible with great care. During our review we tested this feature and found it possible as long as you keep your attention focussed on the stove and make sure it does not contact with the tent material!

Cooking inside any tent, no matter the size, should always be done with great caution!

    Thanks for your comment.

  • And you thanks for the clarification. :) I can imagine this will only be possible with gas (liquefied) and not the petrol/wood stoves that are on the market. I plan on buying ether the Akto or the Vaude bivi, although I must say that the Akto's sitting height is very attractive...

  • I have the Akto and if I am forced to cook inside I undo the toggles on part of the inner tent and push it to one side. If you are using a footprint, it is possible to do the same. But I do agree, the akto is a wee bit cosy and too expensive for cooking.

  • Great review mate, i purchased one about 6 months ago and havent used it yet, i have it errected in my kitchen at the moment to make sure i could manage it.

anyone know the difference between the 2008 and the 2009 tent have they made any improvements.

  • i have the akto with the peaked flexible vent above the door which i hear is the 2009 model

  • Thanks for this very thorough review. Looks like an excellent tent.

  • Its a nice review and my father have almost the same tent!

  • You mention that you have trouble keeping the outer door rolled up; this is because you are trying to roll it up horizontally. Roll it vertically and you will have no problems.

  • Interesting. I will try that next time I take the Akto. Thanks for your comment.

  • Thanks for the review
