The wealthy aren't under-taxed. Small businesses are over-regulated, making it nearly impossible to compete with huge companies having 10,000 frivolous patents and an army of lawyers, for example.

It's not just giving people who want to quit early money, it causes an increase in general wellfare, it can actually save money (I'm talking about medcare specifically now : most of the time if you can get medicin's early you have to get less and can go to work again a lot sooner) and is really more then worth it. I give about 50% about my income to the state, and it's frustrating at times but I'm glad I do.

Due to Earned Income Tax Credit, a person would actually get money back from the government if they file a tax return. There is the cost of med care for kids. I can see $25,000 per yr covering rent & some food. Other costs would have to be carried by taxpayer programs & charity. Note that if a illegal alien, amnestied or not, using charity, that means there are fewer charitable resources for LEGAL immigrants & U.S. citizens.

At "54k a fuckin' year" you don't seem to understand you are already paying an disproportionate amount of tax to someone in a higher tax bracket. The average American wage is 38k a year, so you see, the government does get the lions share of it's spending money from the low paid and hard working.

there's required consumption and optional consumption, someone who makes 100k a year requires the same food, housing, etc. as someone who makes 12k a year. By taxing at a flat rate, your cutting into what the 12k guy would most likely be spending entirely on required consumption. makes sense right?

I've heard all of your economic incentive stuff before, and i used to believe it, but human behaviour isn' t that simplistic. It's not just giving people who want to quit early money, it causes an increase in general wellfare, it can actually save money (I'm talking about medcare specifically now : most of the time if you can get medicin's early you have to get less and can go to work again a lot sooner) and is really more then worth it. I give about 50% about my income to the state, and it's frustrating at times but I'm glad I do.

I am nearly from Europe (Britain) and I think European style social welfare is stupid. Here in the UK we have generations of families who have never worked cause the system is so stupid it just gives, gives, gives.
If you cant be fucked to work you get money for everything, there all sorts of different payments to recieve plus heaps of free stuff that I (taxpayer) has to pay for, free medication, housing, school meals.
I pay around 60% to the state and get fuck all back.

Due to Earned Income Tax Credit, a person would actually get money back from the government if they file a tax return. There is the cost of med care for kids. I can see $25,000 per yr covering rent & some food. Other costs would have to be carried by taxpayer programs & charity. Note that if a illegal alien, amnestied or not, using charity, that means there are fewer charitable resources for LEGAL immigrants & U.S. citizens.

Serously, in the 70's the government made about 13 trillion dollars a year. 50% of that was spent on the military. Now we only spend 10% on the military. That means that 40% (which equals about 4-5 trillion) is just free to spend on whatever we want without adjusting for inflation. Right now our country is in debt. Also, a 'flat tax' won't work. We need to have a progressive income tax here in the U.S. That way, the rich can have some of their ungodly amounts of money taken away and used to make structures, feed the poor, and fund research about global warming. You don't seem to have a real grasp of economics or the tax system. A flat tax may look appealing, but how do you consolidate it against all the other taxes you pay? At "54k a fuckin' year" you don't seem to understand you are already paying an disproportionate amount of tax to someone in a higher tax bracket. The average American wage is 38k a year, so you see, the government does get the lions share of it's spending money from the low paid and hard working.

actually a flat tax would be regressive, in the same way that sales tax on necessities are regressive.
there's required consumption and optional consumption, someone who makes 100k a year requires the same food, housing, etc. as someone who makes 12k a year. By taxing at a flat rate, your cutting into what the 12k guy would most likely be spending entirely on required consumption. makes sense right?
I know it's not what you're talking about but it's worth pointing out.

if we went to flat tax, it would prioritize and give greater benefit to people who, practically speaking, contribute nothing to the country in that they just make investments (capital gains).
flat tax seems like a nice idea, and alluring because there wouldn't be so much fucking paperwork to fill out, but since the economy is such a complex thing, such a simple fix doesn't seem intuitive.

If you taxed everyone a flat rate of 20%, someone making 20,000 would be taxed 4,000. Someone making 100,000 dollars would be taxed 20,000. Does that sound like they're being taxed "the same" to you? They are being taxed FAIRLY, but the man with more money is obviously giving more.

No one argues that no incentive should exist. The issue is the severity of the economic disparity. It's a problem when the top 1% of Americans account for nearly half of national income. And for the record, income does not always reflect contribution to society. For one, car salesmen earn more than Nobel prize-winning researchers. And unfortunately, the US actually has the lowest economic mobility of any first-world country.

The Tea Parties were about keeping money in the hands of those who earned it, and not being required to give it to the government so they can spend 90% on overhead and 10% on something that you don't want and doesn't work... Also to stop printing money to the point that the dollar is worth less than pennies and less by the day.

The fundamental problem is not taxation. Big government is not bad government, bad government is bad government. I've heard all of your economic incentive stuff before, and i used to believe it, but human behaviour isn' t that simplistic. I've studied economics for a quite a long time now, and simply put the stats don't agree with you, and neither do the theories if you really understand them. I'm not a communist, i understand free markets, but i think in more colours than just black and white.

The phenomenon is based on people's biased expectations of future earnings. They all think that they're going to be really successful. Try it. Ask a group of teenagers what they expect to be earning when they are 30, then ask them again what they're earning when they are 30. And do it again for 40 and 50. People don't want taxes to be higher because they assume that they will soon be one of the ones in the higher wage bracket. And far fewer than half believe that they earn below average.

Did you know that statisctically a person's economic and social mobility are greater in the UK, (which has higher taxes across the board) than in the US. So if you're born into a poor family in the US then you're more likely to stay poor, is that fair? - But these low income families are convinced the opposite is true. It's the media bollocks which you have swallowed so readily, without checking their facts or doing the research (I know that you haven't or you wouldn't hold that opinion).

What utter rubbish. That's just the story that the rich and powerful propagate in the media, and you've swallowed it unquestioningly. See if you can find some stats unequivocally linking income tax and emmigration, you won't. Would you leave your friends, family and culture for a few extra grand? The driving force of the economy is the middle class, and it has been for centuries. All the figures suggest that people aren't significantly happier with £500M than they are with £500K.

Proposing a flat tax is utterly ridiculous. A greater wealth disparity is likely to cause higher crime. And what about fairness? - What about social jusice?
If you can sit there with a straight face and say that you need a swimming pool more than a child born to low income parents (through no fault of its own) needs adequate healthcare and education then there's something wrong with you.

But if that child is dependent on government handouts 24/7. Then the child might as well be without healthcare. What about fairness? Fairness is over seeing as there is little racism left. This country does NOT allow for equal opportunity. The kid of a billionaire doesn't mean he will become a billionaire. He could just as easily piss his money away if he doesn't have the brains to use it. This country isn't about equal opportunity, it gives incentive to the poor to do better, if I am correct, any person can get a 4.0 GPA if they try but if they don't then they will not get those scholarships. Self Reliance should be the name of the game, instead of roll over for the government.

Civilized society can only grow through competition. Read up on the Cold War, socialism or communism doesn't work to the benefit of the people, it only spreads poverty.

This guy represents well the average American people. United-State should completely be eradicated from the map. I know they are some good people in the US but most of them already decided to move to Canada or elsewhere. Being proud to be an American is a real Joke for everyone else in the world. People have pity for them if its not rage towards them. I really hope Obama changes a lot of things or that something happens to help them. It looks like 9/11 was not enough to wake them up. Really sad.
