Wow it worked. I had one screw left from by the Ethernet port that wouldn't go back in but it seems fine. Thanks so much. I am just waiting on a Bluetooth card delivery that I will install later.
I guess I should also thank Dell for realizing what components people are most likely to want to upgrade such as RAM and then putting them in a logical place on the motherboard for users to access them. Shame they didn't follow through with their case design.
This was fantastic. I love the up close shots and the 'slowness' of the instructions to give the user a chance to double-check what they are doing. I was able to accomplish this perfectly the first time. I checked bluetooth, WI-FI and LAN, touchpad and all the keyboard keys. Everything worked great. I cannot thank you enough for these videos.
Another upgrade Completed... Also fitted a bluetooth module while I was in there.. Excellent tutorial.. quick, simple and well put together both part 1 and 2... Thanks Heaps!!!!
wow! wonderful tutorial. where most just show you how to do it, you showed us how to "re-do" it! even though i could have figured it out, a video like this helps; takes a lot less anxiety from the situation, especially for people like me, who mainly work on desktops, and HATES working on laptops. you made it simple, and ill be sure to use this vid when my mini10 gets here ina few days.
The video was great! Everything went smoothly. But I do have a question. You started your disassembly process by removing three screws. Was one of these screws bigger that the other ones with a sharp point?
Just an awesome tute, jrincon. Excellent step-by-step doing an upgrade that ought to be a no-brainer except for Dell's infinite idiocy in burying the RAM chip.
I found that when you remove the keyboard screws you can push a small tool through one of the holes to lift the keyboard up from the front. Also I was having so much difficulty removing the power cable that I left it hooked up, flipped the board, and replaced the RAM.
Thanks so much for posting this. I was able to save my mini 10 after dropping it going through airport security: booting up couldn't find the OS. But following your instructions I was able to crack open the case and re-seat the HDD. Life-saver!
well i managed to get the 2bg ram stick in and all, but when i turned it on, the screen was white. i checked all connections were good. i seem to have damaged the display cable! D: Shit! well I got it to mostly work... meaning that the screen is all fucked up! Should I go to dell about this?
These videos were a thousand times better than other upgrade videos. I was cursing up a storm until I found them. Holy hell, could Dell make it any more complicated? Thanks so much for saving me!
After doing this, my WLAN network card stopped working? My laptop upgraded fine to the 2GB of ram, but it's not reading the network card anymore. Help?
HELP! I followed the instructions and when I try to turn the computer back on it makes a beeping noise and the screen does not come on. What did I do wrong? How do I fix it?
@melbelle01133 Same thing happened to me. I just took it apart again and reseated the ram, put it back together and it worked. Fairly standard to have to seat the ram a couple of times, it just isn't usually such a pain to do... You can test it without screwing in most of the screws underneath. Very useful instructions, by the way.
What type of memory does the mini take?? I would love to upgrade mine,, but what type of memory do i need to buy, and i assume i will need one 2gb memory module, right??
this is the most practical walk-through video i have seen! i followed step-by-step... worked like a charm! Well Done!!!!! Thank you very much! there is no way I would have been able to have done it so smoothly without these videos!!
Thank you so much for this great tutorial! I really appreciate all the time you took to do this, really I do. This was the first thing I called Dell for was to find out if the memory was upgradeable and they said it was soldered onto the motherboard. I got a Kingston Platinum Series PC2-6400 card. Seems a bit snappier than the generic ram that Dell slapped in at the factory, but it may just be the placebo effect too. hehe Thanks again dude!
Hey, AWESOME/SWEET VIDEO!!! I'm ordering a dell mini 10v this weekend, and the 1GB limitation was the only thing I didn't like, but now I know it is possible to upgrade!
Questions: 1)can you give me exact link to where I can buy the 2GB RAM card for this laptop? 2)how noticeable was the change in the performance after the upgrade? Like, can I run itunes, google chrome, and MS Office '07 ALL at the same time running smoothly??? Can they all run smoothly w/o the upgrade?? Thank you.
windows xp (32bit) can read 3.3gb. the ram limitation in these netbooks has nothing to do with the operating system, rather with the chipset the motherboard uses.

I believe there are 2 cables (black and white) that came undone when you lifted the motherboard out, they are near the SD card reader.

Can't the RAM be accessed just by taking of the back cover? I think it's that way with most of netbooks...
