Hi i had my gall bladder removed 3 weeks ago after having lots of attacks, ive healed really well and only needed painkillers for a couple of days, i had to wait over 8 1/2 hours for the op which made me more nervous but it went really well and my recovery has been good, just have to be really careful lifting as it pulls on the muscles they have cut through, not sure whether i can eat normally or have to eat low fat, doctors havnt told me anything so a little confused.
further to the comment below, i was a fit 30 yr old at time of surgery. running every day. no problems with the gallbladder, other than the fact i had stones and needed it taken out. i had never had a attack or anything.. there are other people around the world who have also had this nerve damage and have not found a way to fix it either. i don't want to scare any one but i just want to let you know there is a risk of this nerve damage. it is tremendous pain. i am no wuss when it comes to pain.
i had my gallbladder out key hole 6 months ago and have severe nerve damage next to my right rib cage from this. nerve damage so severe i am bed bound. please please do a search on the net for everything that can go wrong during this operation before proceeding.

i had this surgery a week ago. i still feel pain in my upper abdomen where my gallbladder was. the first time i sat up after my surgery was hell. i had to have three types of oxycodone to settle the pain, plus the pain in my shoulders from the gas was horrific and has only just gone.
i was in bed for a few days after surgery. I was discharged the day after my surgery. each person feels differently towards this surgery... it's completly subjective due to your pain threshold
I must be a huge pussy because I had my surgery just over a yaer ago. I had pain for weeks. Even months. Everytime my husband puts his arm around me or I lift anything remotely heavy or my kids jab me it causes horrible pain. I think my Doc. thinks I am crazy. I still have occasional bouts of pain. :(
@Promom Exaclty... You had extra procedures.. this does not apply to you.
@Andi090286... How old are you?? Most people under 18 do have to stay in the hospital. I agree with the lifting no more than 15 LBS for 6 weeks. but other than that.. If you had gallstone attacks, then the recovery is a piece of cake.. I hate people that write comments just to scare other people.. It really isnt that bad.
i had this procedure done yesterday.the pain leading up to the surgery is very intense.the surgery itself will not be remembered as you will be put under and therefor no pain.the pain after surgery is substantial and you will be placed on pain meds (percs, vics).i had my surgery done at st.anthonys central in denver colorado by some of the top trauma surgans in the country.and unlike the comment below i dont think im going to be replacing any rooftops anytime soon.
Everyone that says it was painful is either a pussy or had a crappy doctor. I had my surgery at 8 am.. and was home by 11am.. I didnt vomit, have a loose stomack or pain.. as a matter of fact i didnt even take any pain killers afterwards.. Everyone that is having the surgery... You have nothing to worry about... I was scared after reading all the comments on here but really... It's a joke.. within a week I was replacing the roof at my house... any questions hit me up.... Good Luck to all
@lschvz007 wow. my dad had this done yesterday...I WISH I talked to you first... THAT being said...you are correct! my dad is home already and he is just a little sore!
@lschvz007 What an insensitive nasty comment. EVERYONE is different! I had this surgery almost 2 weeks ago and while I'm doing OK now, I was nauseated from the pain medication and had soreness as well. In my case I had an extra procedure as one stone had broken away and was headed toward my Pancreas. Regardless EVERYONE is different. I was in great shape and running 4 miles daily before the surgery and ate a healthy diet. I think that has helped me with recovery.
@lschvz007 Bollocks isall I can say to you. I went in and was told it would involve an overnight stay. Hadthe surgery about 11:30am and was on a ward just after 1pm. When I was discharged I was told not to do any lifting or any heavy work for at least 2weeks. Everyone is different, the operation affects people in different ways, I was signed off from my work for 7 weeks due to the swelling. So you my freind are talikng out of your'e big fat ARSE!!!!
@saraheda my god..i just got home yesteday from that surgery..I went in weighing 106lbs, now I'm 120..my stomach is huge!!! and I am sore as hell. I've had 2 c-sectins that felt better than this.
OMG.... THIS IS MAKING ME SCREAMM... I Have To Get Mine out Tomorrow @ 5:30 am Im Superrr Scared.. Just Sitting Here.. And Looking At This Is Making Me CRy.....
@SamanthaDumbBlonde Hey how dod it go??? I got to get mine out too... I am nervous. Was yours out patient or did you have to stay over night? Please tell me were you sore and can you eat normal after the surgery? Thanks
I just found out from my doctor (one of the top doctors in the world) that I can't eat a lot of oil from now on, or fat. I had to cut meat from my diet, which makes sense because I can't digest fat like I used to. Please let people know out there that we are prone to heart disease now if we continue to eat fat, as we don't digest it. I was told I could get heart disease within 3 years if I continues to eat oily foods. I should have rid the gallstones naturally, and yes, it can be done!
