  • Devin is so inspirational and is just definition of a true musician. Makes me proud to be Canadian for sure.

  • That's my mom's ringtone!

  • I love that he so open in this interview on the collective consciousness and the coming paradigm shift.. it shows also in his lyrics that hes definately a cutting edge musician.. !

  • This is basically what I've always thought about writing music. Be yourself and write music that you would want to hear. There will be other that enjoy it too. Being a sellout might get you further but it's an empty feeling.

  • Who really gives a shit if he likes muse or tiesto?

  • the only guy I know who has the ironic humour to put a portrait of fire, next to a fire extuinguisher...

    xD

  • @NongStep I know...i said that with HAPINESS!...look at my username!...Im the biggest muse fan!!!

  • Now, being hailed as the ultimate fourth-dimensional guitar hero, Devin feels confident in his complete victory. But the internet has seen through Devin's facade, and now sets out to expose Devin for what he really is...a NERD.

    A NERD.

  • I bought 2 shirts. One for me, and one for my ugly sibling.

  • @bill14231393 haha, sweet

  • @bill14231393 I got one for my significant other.

  • @ZenotheMetalWarrior Can I see them wearing it? One picture with it on and one without, for comparisons sake.

  • oh shit he mentioned Muse

  • he mentioned muse...HE MENTIONED FUCKING MUSE

  • He's among my biggest influences. He's opened me up to more clean stuff, and that you don't have to be technical to heavy to be good. Also in a different video he mentioned how a lot of solos and such are nothing more then just shapes and such. When i now look at this crazy fast bass scale that is in a Symphony X song, i see the shape and now its a lot less daunting. Kudos to Devin for opening my eyes.

  • Is the guy asking the questions STANDING UP? quite annoying. You rock, Dev.

  • Who are those two mother fuckers who disliked this video?

  • i'd totally go buy all of his shit if the closest record store wasn't 300 km away. i'd never hear any music if it wasnt for youtube and downloading

  • @majorblood87 internet connection : order

  • please come to play in serbia or at lest in Hungary, its not far away from serbia, ill make it up

  • Devin Townsend is now one of my new guitar heroes. He's talking about the heart, which is so important in music.

  • I had the honor to interview Devin in person (first interview i've ever done), and it was the most nerve wracking experience I've ever had but he was one of the nicest people i've ever had the pleasure of talking to and later that night he went on to play one of the best concerts i;ve ever attended

  • @HeavyAcid666 You lucky bastard! ;)

  • It's good to see Devin is so humble and down to Earth. He's a man who can admit mistakes freely, rather than be inflated by his own sense of self-importance.

    Mistake in question: enjoying Muse.

  • Just changed my tuning to open C, holy shit, sounds much better.

  • @force39osborn im fixing my 6 string up soon and doing the same :)

cant wait to play around with it

  • lol thats my ringtone.

  • saw him play last night, great person!

  • Huge fav of Townsend and thas cool he gets Muse, Matt Bellamy is a genuius in his own right, I'm glad they can co-exist and that tour together would b epic, but Townsend for life.. my fav songs are life, storm & all of Ziltoid lol

  • @ViperRob42 not muse, the mew.

  • Well said!

  • Got to love his straightforwardness

    and..

    "If you drink, don't drive...essentially"

  • I ordered 4 shirts of strappin/devin on merchnow, 6 months later it still hasn't arrived. I want to have some shirts but I'm afraid I'll waste my money again. Does anyone know where I can buy some merchandise safely?

  • @ZTOID his Ebay store which has 100% positive feedback. Search on ebay for hdrecords ;)

  • @fangless Thanks bro, I live in europe, is it safe for europeans as well?

  • @ZTOID Yup I have bought his shirts in the UK... + it's sis not bro ;P

  • @fangless Oh, excuse me. :P

  • Really reminds me of my choir conductor in High School, Ryan Keebaugh. The guy composes modern-classical music, and his attitude towards his art really is almost identical to Devin, along with his sense of humor haha

  • Geez Dev, give yourself a break. You've been making music that has had ppl scratching their heads wondering how you do it for years mate. PS I just paid for some of your music from your website because I need you!

  • fuck compression. sorry Dev.

  • there is nothing wrong with being different.and devin townsend is pure evidence to back this fact up.amazing guy,he really is\m/

  • devin, such a strange and odd guy although the coolest ive seen

  • Did I hear him right at 3:20? Did he say Mew? I was actually disappointed that he wasn't playing when I was in Vancouver, but Mew played. I didn't know anything about them, but went because they seemed interesting. Maybe Devin was doing me a favor. Mew is great.

  • thats actually my ringtone

  • "She's making us buretos. She can phone anytaaam."

  • Devin is the guitar guru of the decade, better than Steve Vai I think.

  • i think that devin's views are absolutely the best way to think for music. he's definitely one of my top influences

  • I hate record companies. If i go looking for some real awesomeness - LIKE DEVIN TOWNSEND. I can't find it, because Kanye West has a new single and there is no place for Devin in the record store. I live in Norway, mabye its just diffrent. But i want more Devin in stores!

  • @LadStrapping Fellow Norwegian, equally annoyed.

  • @jan1080 a revolution is indeed needed...

  • Its nice to watch every video about him and no one has anything bad to say :) thats a frist

  • Devin's right, and he's been doing what I was doing for years, doing what I do...Seemed like fighting a loosing battle, but I could not lie to myself and join an indie band...and one day it clicked and we found our niche.

He's right, there's something out there for all walks of life and hell, I'm all for the geek shit! Who cares, u are what u are and I am me!

  • this man has such a profound respect and love for music. he's so real and honest and sees through all the bullshit that drives 16 year kids to hunger for stardom and american idol status. his rants are the best! i can relate to everything he's saying when i comes to being a musician and the painstaking, yet beautiful struggle to create great music

  • These videos have made me respect Dev as both a person and a musician even more than I had before...A man who is truly an inspiration to us musicians. \m/

  • BWAHAHAHA! Lars Ulrich comes up in related videos, that is so fail.

  • would never of though he would listen to muse there ace

  • Incredable musician, artist and madman!Dev, Keep doing your thing, you´re an Inspritation to us all!

  • I think that's GGGarth's chair. Not sure though. I'm going to his school in Vancouver and he's good friends with Devin. He wants to try and get him in as a guest teacher or something. Hopefully the first DTP tour ends in time!

  • Dev,you're a great inspiration to me and to some other hundred musicians....

  • Love his music, and his taste in chairs; that is a pimp ass chair!

  • Dev blows 99.9% of the other garbage out of the water, yet he is so humble. A true and honest independant musician.

  • 100% win.

  • Comment removed

  • Devin townsend is absolutely fucking brilliant

  • I'm not surprised that Devin likes Muse, they both write stuff that could accompany the end of the world! Epic as you fucking like.

  • He said he liked the production in Muse. Hey, so do i, but i'm not a fan of their music.

  • Agreed; Muse seems geared to be as populist as possible, not as epic as possible..

  • Devvy likes muse? -dies-

I fucking LOVE muse, have been a huge fan of theirs for years and years. Matthew Bellamy and Devin Townsend are my idols.

  • If I were in charge of Canada, I would designate Devy as whatever the musical equivalent of a poet laureate would be and give him a lifetime arts grant to continue making whatever music he desires. :)

  • @p1neconeboy well, in a way you [we all] are in charge of such a thing. but we'd have to do it personally by finding the ways most applicable to us to support his art. and it's up to him to make those means available. and so far he's done a pretty good job and seems to realize that the brick and mortar CD industry is a failed system, so we'll see what comes from him and what ideas he takes from the public and his listening group. i'm going to check him out at the boston house of blues in january

  • that makes sense man, what he does is gold.

  • I downloaded a lot of Devins music but I felt so guilty so I actually found a place near me that had all the strapping albums so I got those and also a few of the DTB ones. Im thinking of getting a few shirts also so I can give a little back to this man of pure brilliance :) Devin your awesome!

  • @Vejo3 find the right means so that you're actually supporting him, and not a big record company. because there's a fair chance he sees extremely little money from record sales.

  • @Vejo3 Im the same, im actually tempted to hunt his address down and post him the cash for everything ive downloaded, he's had to much influence on me musicially and as a person for me not pay him back.

  • @Vejo3 Devin actually convinced me to stop downloading music. When he said "download my music, if you want. The most important thing is that you listen" in an interview, I said "no, I will support artists such as yourself so you can further share your experiences".

  • @LessthanJake14 People who download are faggots and should die

  • @Vejo3 Same here, He's one of the few I want to support so I actually buy his albums.

  • It must so easy to interview Devin, he just keeps on talking automatically :D

    Muse rocks ;)

  • Yeah, he is such a nerd. Long live Geek-Power!

  • Amazingly i can't stand Muse, i agree their records production wise , sound amazing, but musically i just can't get in to them

  • me too, they're creative but something just does'nt draw me to them

  • it's funny, Im always like " how does devin get that sound, how does he get so much stuff going and it still sounds good" I can't seem to do it lol.

  • Well I am sure that ALOT of people appreciate this guy for his music, I love the song, Away, just, out of this world, my favorite one :)

    BUY HIS MUSIC"""

  • hahahaha "I'm not that cutting edge, I'm not that current".... hahahahahahahahahaha... wait... ahahahahahhahahahahaa

  • Agreed!

Devin has always been so far ahead of the so-called 'cutting edge' that 98% of bands will never catch up with him.

And it's cool that he mentions Muse, which is one band that IS up there with Devin in terms of defining this generation of rock music.

  • i cannot work like this!

  • Very humble guy. Devin is one of a very few people that are an example of what is right in the music business today.

  • It's awesome to hear Devin name-check Muse.

Because for me the two greatest musicians on the planet today are Matthew Bellamy and Devin Townsend.

  • did he said the mew? and meant Mew?

  • Muse

  • Nevermind dude, I thought you meant earlier in the video, yeah I think he meant Mew near the end.

    Sorry, my bad lmao
